Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
Today is the day I learned that collecting Disney Limited Edition Dolls is a stressful hobby indeed LOL. I just read the posts about the possible price increase on the 17 inch dolls and the possible release dates for the Designer dolls. Should these rumors be true, I am going to be very stressed. I really want the Cinderella/Charming and the Mulan/Shang Designer sets and, while I do not really want Aurora, I do want Maleficent (yeah it hasn't been confirmed but it would be kind of silly for Disney not to release a 17 inch doll of her). $100 is already a lot as it is, and if you combine that price with the prices of the Designer dolls, it means we will have to be paying a lot in just a matter of months. Hopefully this information isn't entirely true. Better get to saving up I suppose just in case!

I hear ya.

Im thinking of giving up collecting Frozen dolls because the prices are just so insane to me.

Unfortunately that is what you should expect with collecting these dolls. The frustrating thing is that it all happens around the same time of the year too, they clump all the releases together in that Aug-Nov period.

It is scary how much I spent on collecting these dolls last year as we had the following dolls released in the second half of the year, so Jul-Nov, note all prices exclude taxes.
- Ariel 17" LE doll $99.95
- Designer Fairytale Doll Collection $649.75
- Designer Fairytale D23 Snow Exclusive $129.95
- Eric 18" LE doll $99.95
- Ursula 17" LE doll $99.95
- Frozen 17" Doll set exclusive to Harrods around USD$850
- Coronation Anna 17" LE doll $99.95
- Snow Queen Elsa 17" LE doll $99.95

So overall that comes to about USD$2,129.45 in total and that excludes shipping costs and taxes. So please be aware that if you do plan on collecting these dolls that it will not be cheap! LOL

Just to put it in perspective this is what you should be expecting to spend during doll season this year
- Aurora 17" LE doll $119.95
- Designer Fairytale Collection Part 2 $649.75
- Maleficent 17" doll $119.95
- Possible Philip doll $119.95
- Possible Big Hero 6 doll $119.95

So hoping that there will not be another exclusive Harrods set or something ridiculous this year you should be expecting to spend at the very least $1,129.55 excluding taxes. Also that excludes any of the releases prior to Jul 2014 so the Snow Gear Anna, Coronation Elsa, Tinker Bell and Zarina dolls. It really is scary when you quantify it all like that....

Okay BIG QUESTION for you all: Would you still collect the heirloom collection is it wasn't limited to a specific number?

Now all Disney Store merch is limited in some way, and they rarely re-release things too many times, hence the high price for snow globes and playline dolls from past years. But if it was a larger release, that was only ran through production once, at the current price point, would you still buy them?

I would. The quality justifies the price. I do not get any kind of thrill from fighting others or having dolls so expensive (on the aftermarket) that others cannot afford to get them and desperately want to. That is kind of sick really. So DISNEY, stopping treating your fans like ****, because the only people who win from such low numbers are scalpers.

I am soooo glad that I didn't spend too much from last year's doll releases! Cause I only spend around $560 on the 17" of Ariel (which I only spend $60 cause I had a gift card to that mall :D), Eric, & Ursula & I only got Aladdin/Jasmine & Ariel/Eric of the designer fairytale collection. Since I'm only sticking around with my top 2 favorite movies of all time, saves me money from all the other dolls. As this year approaches, it should be just good cause all I want from this year is the Fairytale designer of Tiana/Naveen (for myself), Pocahontas/John Smith (my best friend), & Cinderella/Prince Charming (my sister). Oh! & I almost forgot I also did the pre-order for Anna (for my store) & Elsa (for my other sister) in March :] soo it's looking for good for me this year! Since I'm not into sleeping beauty what so ever, I won't be getting them. Plus I'm happy that Sleeping Beauty is taken it's spot for the fall this year. Don't get me wrong, I love sleeping Beauty (heck I need it in my movie collection) but that means Aladdin will have it's chance for next year to take it's Blu ray release in the fall of 2015. Plus it's expo year which I'm super stoked to go!! & that means they can go all full out with it's merch & especially for the 17" dolls :D

I think this is a very good question and I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion in the matter but I don't think Disney is treating their fans the way that you termed it I just think that they are like all other large corporations, they are about making money and that is how they became that big.

I am assuming in your question you are referring to having a limited number of dolls instead of say having a limited release and not about the dolls being individually numbered? If so I personally I do like the fact that the dolls are limited in number as that does make them more exclusive and in my opinion coveted. I dunno but for me there is just something more appealing to say that they are exclusive to 5,000 worldwide rather than just saying that they were limited release in 2012 etc. Again I think there are two schools of thoughts with these dolls and we have different types of collectors and that will always be the case with everything but I think having them numbered and knowing that they are limited is pretty cool.

Interestingly enough there is a really good example of an open edition limited release and a limited edition item, back in 2012 Swarovski released a Stitch crystal figure which was amazing. With this release they release two versions of it, one that was limited to 626 figures worldwide and another that was a open edition limited release for 2012 which meant that they would continue to produce it until the end of 2012. The main difference between the two (mainly to distinguish one from the other) was that the Limited Edition 626 version had a red collar whereas the normal run one did not, also just FYI both figures cost the same on release.

Personally I wanted the 626 version just because I knew there were only 626 of them in the world and for me being one of those 626 people would be amazing, sort of like my own personal achievement. But for others perhaps like yourself you would have been fine with the normal edition as you probably would have seen it as something like its the same thing except one has a collar and one does not so why would you pay more for the other which is a very good and fair point to make. With these dolls they are the same, you will have people that just want to collect them and add them to their collections and do not place any value at all to their edition size, then you have others who do add value to these items because they are numbered and limited. It all comes down to the simple theory of supply and demand, if we know for a fact that something is of limited supply, we are more than likely going to buy it moreso than not and of course will add more value to it due to its rarity.

It is how things like gold and silver get their value, it is because they were considered rare elements and were also very pretty too, as a result people added more value to them than say copper or iron because they were rarer.

At the end of the day yes I would still be buying these as they would look amazing and I have always wanted to collect something that featured the Disney Princesses/characters that I love but having them limited in numbers makes them that much more special to me in my opinion.

Polaris bringing out the business terms. Reading your posts is always fun. :D

As for the dolls, I personally don't buy them for myself, buy them for my sisters, but I don't buy them
Based on numbers. I buy them based on the character. When blonde rapunzel was out I remember getting an email from Disney store about her and I asked my sisters if they wanted her, and they both said no. It's not about edition size with me. It's about how nice the item is.

Now this year is going an absolute hell ride for me. With the sleeping beauty dolls, the frozen ones, vinylmation and the newly announced funko figures. :/ gotta prioritise.

LOL sorry again for the business terms and references lordofanime! As a positive at least you can say that reading these forums is relevant to your studies haha. Teaches you about supply and demand :P

Oh yeah I saw the newly announced funko figures too, there are a few there that I want, especially the BATB ones haha. With those I only buy the ones that I like which is good because collecting all of those would be hard!

No your fine. Like I said, it's really
Fun to read. I bet you had a big smile when oaken talked about supply and demand. Lol. I know I did.

As for funko, I'm just glad they're like $12 and not more. But even then,
There are some that are just really weird. Like shere khan,
I don't know what they were thinking. But the one that I'm loving so so so much is actually not a Disney one. Smaug from the hobbit. His figure looks so good.

Id buy them regardless just because they are so beautiful and I like the size of the actual dolls. Also Polaris you are a forum God! I always love how you break it down! : )

Haha yes! I was like, "Yes! Disney recognizes us economists and that we can be fun!" LOL

Haha thank you poisonivyprincess! I just looked back at my posts after you mentioned that and I noticed how long they were! Sorry I put a lot of thought into my posts and and they can usually be very long :S so I do apologise for that! But I am glad you like them haha.

lol seriously your posts are always awesome and your contributions are appreciated. also thanks for helping me to decide to keep my Elsa. Id miss her lol. not to mention my bf would be totally po'ed at me for doing that since he bought them for me.

At this point, guys, don't sell your dolls unless you absolutely have to.
With Anna and Elsa people have realized that this collection exist. And a lot are willing pay for the past dolls to have the complete collection. So the demand for the dolls is increasing rapidly. Once you sell it on the second market, you won't ever get it back again. Because the value would have increased and you wouldn't be able to buy for what you sold it for.
If you really hate the doll, to the point where you can't even look for it, then go and sell it. But if you're still undecided and not sure, definitely keep it.

A couple of questions if you dont mind.

1) What was the very first Disney collectible you've ever gotten? And did something offset Disney with you or did you just grow up with it?

2) Whats your top 5 in your collection. :)

Cause from the looks of it, you're like professional disney collector.
Actually, Im interested in hearing everyone's responses, not just you. It's always interesting. :)

Polaris...just...oh my god! That is SO much money! I could only dream of owning all of that! You have to upload pictures of your collection one day!

Lol honestly, I just started collecting last year. I have been wanting to get into collecting them since The Designer Villain's set came out. I couldn't get any of those and I couldn't get any of the 17 inch dolls either. I was so heartbroken how every time a set went up online, I was broke and couldn't buy them (ESPECIALLY Snow Queen Elsa...that was a terrible day). I finally got one last year, and that was The Belle and Beast Designer Set. They are so beautiful in person, and it felt SO good to finally own one. So naturally I only wanted to get more and I pre-orderd the Snow Gear Anna and Coronation Elsa as soon as they went online, and I am REALLY leaning towards getting Tinkerbell. As for past releases, I hope to get Lady Tremaine and Merida and maybe one of the Designer Villains. I am also going to try to get the Aladdin, Jasmine, and Jafar 17 inch dolls that I am sure we will get next year for the Aladdin Diamond Ediiton.

However, I had no idea the release dates and payment dates were so close to each other. I collect a lot of other Disney related things besides dolls such as pins, art and so on. My current goal is to get all Disney's animated films on Blu-ray (which is the key reason I joined Disney Movie Club). I also collect other things besides Disney such as a couple of anime PVC figures and such (though my main priority is Disney). So I have to spend so much money all together, and I really don't get a lot of money to begin with.
Oh sweet lord in heaven above what have I gotten myself into? :anxious:

When I was a kid I collected Winnie the Pooh stuff. Like I had a lot of toys and I remember this really cool set that had like a water wheel to play with in the bath tub lol. However I find pooh kind of annoying now…… But my first official collection that I started in my early teens was Sailor Moon. I had dolls, stuffies, the wands and tons of items from japan. My first official disney collection was some wdcc snow white items, the queen and the magic mirror. Then I started with the Brass Key Porcelain Dolls. I Have around 250 in my collection each one different.
I started the designer dolls with the villains as the princesses didn’t really do anything for me. and I started with the 17" dolls with the gorgeous Lady Tremaine. I grew up in a disnyfied household and Snow White was the First Disney film I ever saw.
My top 5 Items would be Le 17” Ursula, 17'’Lady Tremaine, Designer Couple Snow White, Designer Queen of Hearts, And 17'' Eric.

Well to be honest I have always loved Disney and grew up with it, I remember growing up I loved movies like Aladdin, Mulan and the Lion King and remember my first trip to the US and going to Disney World and thinking that everything was amazing. However because I live in Australia it is not easy to keep in touch with Disney because well there is none of that here and most people here associate it as something for children. Even when I tell my friends that I am going to Disneyland or Disney World they think that I am just a big kid because they would rather go to Vegas or New York (mind you I have gone to both cities as well and whilst it is fun I still love Disney just as much).

So for me it never was about getting into collectibles, instead it was that I just loved everything about Disney and what it represents. Then back in 2010 after seeing Tangled I really loved the movie a lot but it was not until 2012 when I went back to the US that I thought to myself it would be cool to have some sort of collection that had all the Disney Princesses in it and it all started from me seeing that giant box of Disney Classic dolls that had each Disney princess and the year that their movie came out. I was tempted to get that but then due to the size I thought I better not. Then when I came back to Aus I remembered that there were a few things that I wanted to get from Disney that I missed out on while I was there and started looking into those dolls again and then bumped into the Merida LE doll as it was still available online.

I researched into it more and discovered the whole line of dolls and when I saw Rapunzel I fell in love with it and thought to myself that I really wanted it. At the time she cost about $300 on Amazon (yes I bought my first doll from Amazon which i am ashamed of as I could have gotten her for less haha) and that night ended up buying her. In fact I saw that they had Belle as well and bought her too. I noticed Snow but saw that she was around the $1,000 mark so told myself I would never get her because of that. The next thing you know it I spent several days trying to find out more info about these dolls like when they were released and how many of them already existed. (It is because of the lack of information out there that I created the Disney Limited Edition Informative Thread, that way all the information was in one spot and people would not need to go through the trouble I went through just trying to find information on these dolls).

Eventually I found out about the Designers and the fact that they all came with COAs and I started buying these dolls left right and center. Originally I was just going to buy the ones I wanted but eventually I ended up buying all of them as I realized I couldn't stand seeing half a collection and once you get started with these dolls they get very addictive! LOL. Prior to all these I never collected dolls, nor would I have ever thought of myself buying dolls at all, but for some reason Disney was an exception and the way I always saw it was that yes they are dolls but they were more than that, they were a real life representation of characters from my favorite movies.

In terms of my top 5 from my collection I am not sure if you were referring to just dolls or anything Disney in general so I sort of answered both haha.

For dolls my top 5 are:
- Snow
- Snow Queen Elsa
- Alice
- Designer Ariel
- Blonde Rapunzel

For all things Disney, my top 5 collectible items are:
- Snow LE Doll
- Frozen Harrods Doll Set
- Alice LE Doll
- Swarovski 626 Stitch figure
- Designer Rapunzel Pin
It is tough because there are so many items that I love but if I had to chose just five, those would be it haha.

LOL again sorry about the really long response guys!

LOL thanks, I actually had my photos up on the Share your collection thread but it is a few pages back. Here is a link to my flickr account which has all of the photos I have taken of my collection.

I think it is up to date as I generally try to post all the new images I take of my collection on their as soon as I can.

Woah! Awesome!!
PoisonIvyPrince - Lol, Sailor Moon. My sister LOVE that show! I watched a few episodes when I was kid.
Polaris - Hm.. I thought you started when Snow came out and im really impressed now. Good job and congrats on your collection! Also, never apologize for long posts. It's not like you're trying to troll people. ;)

As for me
I grew up with Disney. When I was a kid I was obsessed with Winnie the Pooh and Flounder. I loved loved loved Lion King. However, as I got older, I forgot disney. Up until my middle school years. We were trying to introduce my little brother to Disney and I watched Aladdin and Boom! Disney came back into my life, but unfortunately it was for a long time. It lasted a year and then I just sort of moved on. Until my senior year of high school. I watched Pocahontas with my little brother and I couldn't get Just around the river bend of out my head. And the obsession continued till now. It's brought me great pain, humility, and misery. but I love disney and I won't let people get in the way of my happiness. :)

So When I got the email that Designer Ariel was coming out I bought her for my sister.she's always wanted to have an ariel doll. And it sort of just went on from there. I'd get my sisters dolls cause it makes them happy. :) As for myself, I just buy vinylmation and figures.

For my top 5:
1. My vinylmation collection (no matter what people say, they are collectibles)
2. My "I just can't wait to be king" snow globe... which broke. :(
3. My Scar LE150 canvas painting
4. My Heffalumps and Woozels snow globe.
5. My Pinocchio heirloom box tied with my Merlin and Archimedes figure.

I recently found out my set of the Limited Frozen Anna and Elsa have gone missing in the post :( I am so gutted and know that I will have to pay an arm and leg now to get them but how much do you think is to much?

Did you buy these on the secondary market? As it has been a while since they were released and shipped from Disney Store so if you didn't follow up the shipping back in November that is when alarm bells should have been ringing? If you did buy it from the secondary market then I definitely would find out from the seller what happened and they should give you a full refund for the item since it should be covered by insurance. There is also the possibility that they tell you that it is lost in the mail because they decided against selling them due to the increase in price? Either way you should investigate it further.

In terms on how much is too much well to be honest the prices that they are at at the moment is too much, really both dolls should only be at around the $200 but I guess you could say paying anything more than$800 for Elsa is too much and anything more than $400 for Anna is too much.

Always love reading your posts and your collection is awesome Polaris.

Do you have a link for the new funko ones, or is it just on their site? I have a few and have many more on my WL and would love to see some new BatB ones. I have Belle and Beast already from the older collection.
