Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
I'm stunned that she sold out, honestly. There must be a lot more Wizard of Oz collectors than I originally anticipated.

I think you are correct, there are a lot of Oz collectors who would crossover into Disney dolls for this. I just found out Robert Tonner dolls ended their Disney (and Marvel ) licenses. And the Ashton Drake princess & villain series was cancelled before it started. So that leaves DS as the only game in town for the high end deluxe dolls.

Hey Pongo!! :wavey:

Long time no see! ;)

And what??!! How could they end their Disney license? I'm so sad. I wanted a mother Gothel to go with my Punzel doll! :(

Well it doesn't surprise me as there are only 500 of them made. Hopefully only real collectors bought her and not those planning on selling her on eBay. Especially since she costs quite a bit and is a bit of a risk as no one really knows the character yet. I am expecting to get mine tomorrow, can't wait!

Could you post some photos?! I'd love to see :)

Hi Disneygirl!!!

You were lucky to get that gorgeous Rapunzel. Yes, they were talking last year at a Tonner convention that Mother Gothel was coming and they were having a lot of fun with the Disney characters. On FB yesterday they said they were sad about it , so I know Disney is difficult to deal with and they would often have to wait a year or more to get approvals of prototypes, so perhaps the cost was to high to maintain the licenses and they mutually ended it. And Tonner does DC Comics dolls so maybe Disney wanted to end the Marvel license and the Princesses had to go too. Hopefully they will return to being partners. I love the Tonner Disney dolls, I did not think they did a good job on Aurora because they used a sculpt they had made for another fashion doll but all of the others were specific to Disney and the outfits are luxurious, so it is sad. But good for my wallet I suppose. So maybe there is a surprise manufacturer in the wings, but at this point it is all DS and they have not been showing us the love we deserve so far this year.

Hi guys I just noticed that someone has posted a LE China Doll for $800 on eBay. Looks like even this doll did not escape the eBay sharks its just such a shame because they are selling two which could have gone to a honest doll collector at the retail price rather than paying for an item 4x more than retail.

No one will buy her for that price anyway, genuine collectors wouldn't even spend the $179. Price tag for her. I thought the " doll replica" was cute, but not a must have, especially for $179

Is Aladdin still expected to come out as a diamond edition? As I just checked and here in Australia the blu ray is coming out in March. I understand in the past that Disney released the LE dolls in line with the diamond edition releases but I am starting to wonder if that pattern will change, based on the past few release over the last months.

i forgot to mention the blu ray release here of Aladdin is not a Diamond Edition release

I'm not quite sure how reliable this is, but the following is written about Peter Pan and Aladdin on the Disney wiki for the Diamond Editions

''....Furthermore, Peter Pan was also released as a non-commemorative Special Edition in Europe in December 2012. This edition featured no DisneyView to cover the black bars at the sides of the screen, a static menu and only a few bonus features, while the movie is still scheduled to be released as Diamond in April 2013 in the US.

Finally, Aladdin is scheduled to be released to Blu-Ray in Europe in 2013, while still on hold till at least 2014 for the US. It is unclear if the new Aladdin release will be Diamond Edition or not: this seems to differ per country. There were also vague rumors of this new release being delayed.
To add to the confusion, The Jungle Book has now been confirmed as the fall Diamond Edition Blu-Ray for Europe, possibly replacing The Little Mermaid until the latter movie's theatrical re-release is finished in Europe. ''

Some kind of indication of Disney would help. ;-)

The weird thing is we still haven't received nor does it look like we will be getting a Peter Pan release any time soon.

Oddly enough Hunchback of Notre Dame is going to be released here in Australia in February and like I mentioned in my last post they just got rid of the "Diamond Edition" title for the Cinderella release. Maybe it's because the Disney-mania in Australia is not as strong as it is in other countries.

oh and right now in our cinemas we have a Disney Princess marathon so all of the cinemas Australia wide are showing all the Disney Princess related movies.

it seems a bit all over the place indeed. I guess disney really has to take each market individually and see what would do best where. Perhaps we are in for a treat then when it comes down to LE dolls.

It is weird how the LE dolls seem to follow a global release pattern, whereas the Diamond Edition/blu-ray releases are really all over the map (literally) with different release dates. Since they are handled by different departments within the Disney Corporation, the LE dolls have taken a hit for characters like Pocahontas, and also potentially Jasmine and Mulan (if those were ever even planned by the product develpoment team). It will be interesting to see what is released this year, since they kind of went nutso with the releases in 2012. To be honest, taking a break from purchasing is kind of nice, even though I would still love to have LE dolls for these characters.

I don't know about that. Oz people are nuts. I noticed that even my Wizard of Oz Barbies retained more value that most of my other Barbies when I went to sell them. Most of the other Barbies did so poorly. Usually 1/4th what I bought them for. If I didn't have to sell, I'd have kept them. The China Doll has the potential to be a sought after doll if you are an Oz collector. If you are just a Disney limited edition doll collector it might not be as tempting to you.

I personally love her. She is so beautiful and she reminds me of porcelain dolls which I really like! I wish they stuck with the $99 price tag instead and a 17inch size, but I am sure the price doesn't stop genuine collectors. It just makes them mad, sad, and poor.

Ok, maybe I'm weird. I only collect the villains. BUT! Even though I don't collect the princess dolls or others, I still like to see them released and look at the detailing. Even if I'm not getting what I want (which is a true crime and tragedy ;) ), I like seeing what others get.
Come on Disney, at least give us a random hint! With all these random people here, I'm sure we could piece it together...possibly...maybe...well we'd have fun trying! ;)

Well, I messaged the Disney Store via their Facebook page today, trying to find out if the UK will be getting the LE China Girl, as I am dying to have her. Being Disney, they didn't exactly answer my question, but said this: "We're sorry for the delay , sometimes it takes our fairies a little longer to fly off and find out information, but please be assured that we will have numerous Limited Edition Dolls released this year! The best way to stay informed is to keep an eye on our Facebook page - and of course to take a peek at our website from time to time!" Numerous LE Dolls? Seems like we may have a lot releasing this year, so all you collectors better be saving your money up in preparation.

Ah! I am so impatient! I want to know now! :D

That' a great news !!!

Do you think we'll find leaked pics of these dolls at all? We didn't really know about china doll till the day of.... Kinda scary , I'd hate to miss a doll that I really wanted, praying for a jasmine doll, that would be awesome!!!! I'm also wondering If maybe some of the resellers we see on ebay are" one of our own kind " ..... Stalking the forum just to buy dolls and sell them for triple the original cost on eBay, it must be so, how else would a random person who may not be a collector find out about the doll?

Hahaha! "Numerous" by Disney speak could just mean China Doll and Ariel. They give such vague non-answers that it's not really worth asking them anything anymore. My only request is that they keep then spread out and don't do multiple dolls at once.

^^Agreed. Info from DS customer service is slippery at best, and always vague. Still, who knows what they have up their sleeves?

Hey Peeps! So, I have no idea of the validity of this message, but I have heard from someone that a Disney Store CM told a guest that after Valentines Day, they are apparently going to be releasing some new Oz dolls that aren't like the LE dolls, but are apparently really nice and around 60$. Considering I dropped the 70$ for the 2 wicked witches I bought before...I might be pissed if they make the same dolls, but bigger and prettier...and 1 for the price of 2 smaller ones. But, what can I say? Disney really does know how to play in to our weaknesses and addictions. I'll still probably be throwing my money at them for the dolls.
If this rumor is true, then I feel like it will be "higher quality" versions of the Oz dolls displayed in the designer casings.
I swear, this d**n store is going to put me out in the poor house. But hey, if I make my hobo home out of my LE dolls and it will be fabulous!

Well I'd come by for a visit! ;)
