Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
It would be nice if they did one of each. That way everyone would be happy. It would also be interesting to see which one sells out faster. If the blue one sold better maybe Disney would finally wake up out of their delusional pink fog. If they don't make one of each I agree that it would be better if they made a combination blue and pink dress. It would be a very unique look. And yes Maleficent must be the cartoon version. As much as I love Maleficent, I would not buy a LE Angelina Jolie Maleficent doll.

100% x infinityyyyyyyyyyyyyy

totally agree with you!!

If they end up putting Ariel in a green dress I'm sure they could easily have Aurora in blue.
I'm hoping that it's a mid transformation gown, blue / purple / pink (near end), it's how I view the Cinderella LE. Of course they will need to completely redo her sculpt and give her a detailed crown.

If they come out with an LE Aurora doll and don't release it in the UK, then it'll be the death of me [even more so if it's her in the blue dress]

I think it highly unlikely for Disney to base the LE Maleficent doll on Angelina due to the fact that not once have they ever based an LE doll on an actual person. If we do get a surprise release LE Ursula/Vanessa this year then I would be pretty confident that we will be also getting a Maleficent next year as Disney has released a surprise villain LE every year for the past two years.

In relation to Auroras dress whilst I do agree that she is predominantly in blue throughout the movie realistically I find it highly unlikely that they would revert to a blue dress just for the LE doll. The reason being that Aurora is marketed in the pink dress in the princesses line up (and is known as the pink princess) and is even dressed in pink throughout the parks. So if they were to revert to blue I thinly that would create more backlash than it would if they were to go with pink. I think it would also depend on how they plan to release ariel (in her human or mermaid form). if they release her in mermaid form then they are willing to take risks which means there is more potential for aurora to be released in blue (depending of course on how well the ariel mermaid doll sells). I do like the concept for her dress picked up in the Coture de Force figure. I think it looks amazing and I love how they mixed the red and blue tastefully. But I doubt disney would do something like that for their release.

i guess at the end of the day regardless of what color dress Aurora has true Aurora fans will purchase her nevertheless and I think this is what Disney is banking on.

By the way there is only about 3 weeks to go before the preorders for Ariel are expected to be released so I am hoping that Disney will release some images or news soon. Either way it is getting so close I cannot wait!

I really hope the LE doll of Ariel is her as a mermaid. That is her iconic look and what makes her so different from the rest of the princesses. I realize that doing a mermaid doll would be more challenging, but if done correctly would be so worth the extra effort.

I'm a huge fan of Princess Aurora, and I would be fine with her in either pink or blue. Blue is my favorite color in general, but I think Aurora looks perfectly fine in pink. As always, her hair will be the one thing that I will be watching like a hawk. The reversion of this year's play dolls' hairdos is a good sign to me in regards to that, even though the 2013 DS Aurora doll's bangs curl is not quite as nicely done as in the past. I do think that there is a strong likelihood that LE Aurora will be dressed in pink. One thing that is often not mentioned in this great debate over her gown color is that Aurora's name means "dawn" in Latin, and the color pink is definitely associated with the dawn.

I also believe that the animators were very intentional in their choice of what color Aurora's gown was in the various scenes of the film. Aurora's princess gown is blue when she learns about her true identity (and her subsequent heartbreak when her afternoon romance seemingly is killed off), when she reluctantly returns to her father's castle, when she succumbs to the sleeping curse, and when she is asleep. In terms of the time flow at that point
of her birthday in the film, the day is ending and night is coming (a time when people sleep). Blue is an appropriate color to reflect night. Moreover, I also see that section of the film as a series of sad and melancholy moments in her life: which her blue gown reflects well. Then Prince Philip wakes her up with the kiss, the sun rises (re: dawn), she is reunited with her parents, her new life begins as a princess, and the gown becomes pink again (and blue... and pink... and blue... and pink... to continue the previous Flora vs. Merryweather gag). Again, I really don't care which color they put LE Aurora in, as long as they don't take too many liberties with her gown and hairstyle.

I agree with your reasoning behind the meaning of Aurora's name and choosing the pink gown, but I believe it actually goes one step further than that. An aurora, aka aurora borealis, has colors that range from pink/red to blue/purple. I believe this is the reason why both colors of her dress were chosen. I also believe that this is how the fairies' colors were chosen. While an aurora has colors that range from red to blue, the color we can see more of is yellow/green because that portion of the UV spectrum is most visible to our eyes because of the way the sun emits light. Flora and Merryweather held opposing viewpoints about what color Aurora's dress should be just like red and blue are on opposite sides of the UV spectrum. Fauna was stuck in the middle of the two just like with the color green. While all of this seems logical to me, they are of course just suppositions. We'll probably never know the real reasoning behind any of this.

Incredibly true! Sufficed to say, LE Aurora has the most likelihood of having a pink gown, unless they find or make some fantastic material that looks pink or blue depending on which different angles you look at it... that would be something special!

I have to say I am impressed with the analysis into the name Aurora. Which as Shivatopia mentioned is Latin for Dawn and is also the name used for the Greek goddess of the dawn. Also it was because of this that they named the aurora borealis and aurora australis after it. Wasn't it mentioned in the movie the reason why they named her aurora and that it was after the dawn?

But I think both theories raised by both forum members is reasonable. I just can't wait to see what the doll looks like and I agree with Shiva on the actual look and hair of the doll as that is what will predominately make or break it. Regardless I know I will be buying one to ensure that I always keep my collection complete.

Exactly what I was thinking! There is no reason to be so sepcific about non-film accurate colors.

If I could choose I would have - Cinderella: silver, Aurora: dark blue, Ariel: light pink, Tiana: light blue, and Mulan pale green & yellow.

If they were to do two Aurora's I would most certainly buy the blue!

what if the dress is purple to do pink and blue mixed so maybe like a lavender color. It would be clever and would look pretty even the details could be slightly blue and pink. I think it would be creative and stand out from the other aurora dolls. i just hope her hair is down. I feel like the backdrop will be her sleeping chamber. unless they do the woods and if they did the woods they mind as well do a briar rose doll which i would LOVE!

I definitely want a maleficent doll i feel like she would have the most extravagant design out of all of the villains.

With an Ariel doll i was thinking if she was a mermaid she would have pearls here and there on her body maybe have like a sheer materiel where the pearls would lay on. maybe like a netting. If she's not a mermaid i'd love to have her in either the green parks dress or the blue one from kiss the girl. I really want the mermaid version though. her background would either be the lagoon or the grotto perhaps even the palace in the distance tritons or erics. sunken shipyard maybe.

As for Ursula/Vanessa I really want ursula badly as a properly designed big ursula doll. I feel like they should make her curvy if they really want to save money they should at least give us a fuller head sculpt and try to make the outfit seem to add more weight to her and shape. I would love crazy hair like the broadway ursula. and all sorts of crazy materials on the dress like hers. If ursula is in a dress i feel like they will go towards more of the broadway design.

Vanessa should be in the beach dress with the cloak and mist background but i feel like they would do her with light purple skin during mid change back to ursula in the wedding dress with ursula in the background mirror something like when it hit sunset but less of a creepy face than Vanursula had while about to be octopus again I feel like the only way they would do vanessa would be to make her half ursula half vanessa. not as in white hair slim body purple skin wedding dress. more like mid change

mo i see us getting an ursula with a skinny body and bigger head. she'd probably have her lair for the backround.

I would really love both a LE Ursula and a LE Vanessa, but if I could only pick one I would have to go with Vanessa. I've always loved her, but Disney has ignored her for so long that I will take whatever I can get of her.

if they did the woods they mind as well do a briar rose doll which i would LOVE!

 a 17" Briar Rose. I think she'd be amaaaaaazing.

As far as Aurora's ballgown color, my opinion has always been that it is and should be blue. It was designed that way by the animators and obviously Walt himself had a hand in character design (and thus costume). Early concept art shows Aurora in various pink/red or blue gowns, but the color of her final gown is definitely blue.

While I love the notion that the pink derives from both the attitudes in the film and her name's meaning, I think the blue more basically represents a stronger affiliation with "goodness." Almost all the Disney princesses have some form of the blue dress.
She is presented with the blue gown on her birthday and loves it. When she is reunited with her family and Phillip, the dress is still blue. The only time the dress is ever pink while Aurora wears it is at the end of the film when the two fairies are arguing, and it adds humor as well as an extra bit of magic. After all, how cool is it to have a color-changing dress?

Up until the creation of the "Disney Princess" franchise in the late 90's, I believe Aurora was mostly shown in blue, even when pictured with other princesses. Cinderella was shown in a lighter blue than Aurora or silver. After this time however, it seems like the gown shifts almost entirely to the pink version, presumably to distance Aurora from Cinderella. When there were only six princesses with their own colors, maybe it made sense. But now that so many new princesses are being added to the line, I agree that there's no way for all of them to have their own "color" and I would prefer if Disney at least started promoting both pink and blue or some combination of the two. I would have LOVED to see an Aurora doll in lavender or regal purple (as in Kingdom Hearts), but now that Rapunzel is on the scene I see that as less likely. As for Aurora being the "pink princess," for a while I believe Ariel was also promoted in her pink ballgown and is sometimes still shown in pink, so I don't believe the color is exclusively Aurora's. If the princesses can share pink then they can share blue
Who knows? But I am hoping for a colorblend/color-changing dress, a blue dress, or Aurora as Briar Rose to avoid the issue all together. If it has to be pink, I hope it's the new, pretty pastel rose color. Super excited though :3

I wouldn't worry, why wouldn't the Aurora be available in DS Europe? I would understand your apprehension though as buying has been relocated to the US among other structural changes. So Ariel will be a good test run to show if any changes have been implemented for LE releases.

I'd personally love this effect as a mid transformation for her dress:

Ariel's dinner gown is a salmon pink. Not long to go before she is unveiled! :hsd: I planned to get her when I got Tiana 3 years ago "Must get Ariel no matter what"

It is really weird, because Ariel and Aurora were two princesses which I was really looking forward to owning as LE dolls, and they are both next. I still can't believe we will most likely know what Ariel looks like in less than a month. I am not prepared.

I hope they do not produce Aurora in a blue and a pink version (unless the gown is a combination of the two colors). I don't want to feel like I want both!

All of this is making me sooo anxious to see a pic of Ariel. I personally would love to see Vanessa done cause it would be something different. I am also looking forward to Auora and isn't Jasmine also supposed to come out next year?

I do believe they are normally on the same date, just at different times of the day because of the time difference
The surprise release Mermaid doll will, unfortunately, probably not reveal itself until the DVD's release date/date of the Ariel doll's release. This is going to suck!! Lol. I want to see her now!

Does anybody know, whether the LE pre-orders happen at the same time for the US and the UK? Or are they usually different?

Thus far, I didn't think that the UK offered the pre-order option. Of course that could change, but for previous releases, in the UK, the LE dolls just went up for sale on release day. They would provide pre-release advertising, though, for the non-surprise release dolls.

With Gothel and Tremaine, I thought they gave us like 5 days notice. That's probably when we'll officially know. I just hope someone starts a leak.

If LE Aurora is not put in a pink-only gown, I think the doll designers should take inspiration from the gown that was made for Aurora in the Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams at Disneyland (2005-2008). Note that it uses both a light blue/purple color as well as pink. I would be perfectly happy with something like this gown, but perhaps with more blue in it or in the fabric that Mermaids_Grotto posted above. Naturally, as this is a parade costume, some adjustments would need to be made from this design, particularly with the shoulder line, the peplum, and the length of the skirts.
