i got one from ebay at a good price (well the best i thought im gonna get from the sharks) until i went to pick it up from the parcel company today and they told me they declared it way more than what i paid for it!!! i know i was expecting a little customs charging but to get them to hand her over i will have to pay another £150/$230 !!!!!! im so gutted i cant think of what to do?! do i bite the bullet and put it on my credit card because i want her so much or do i point blank refuse???

help any advice??
 
if you refuse , you will lost all. The seller won't give your money back. The custims will probably keep it and destroy the package later.
 
Whoa that is a lot but the doll is already there, it may be more of a hassle to return the doll then to fork over the extra $ 150-200 for her. And once you see her, you'll be in a better mood...:drool:
 
Just keep remind yourself, she is gorgeous, and worth it! You can always message the seller and inform them that next time they should not mark the package so high, so their customers don't have to pay the outrageous fees. They may even offer you a partial refund, who knows? I'm so sorry that it happened to you :(
 
If they declared more than you paid for it then I'm pretty sure you can claim the difference back.
 
Well, think of it this way...
You've already paid X amount of money to "win" her off of ebay.
That X amount of money won't be refunded by the seller on the grounds of "customs being so expensive".
So you are basically looking at 2 math equations.

Refuse = X +/- £0/$0
Accept = X + £150/$230

If "Accept" is less than or equal to her higher going rates, then I say just Accept and have her since it would just cost you more money and hassle to try a return and then attempt to buy another. And, if you can do what Zanna said, then I'd reverse those charges in a heart beat. If she still has her little "$99.50" price tag on her box, then you might even be able to reverse all of the charges back to the seller. That would teach him/her a lesson to buy dolls for profit. :D
 
put me in a right downer for the day, just dont understand why he declared it for more than what i paid? was he hoping it get lost and that way claim more back? anyway i contacted the seller and he replied:

bub. I am sorry my postal friend did that. tell them to send back to me. after I received it I will give you a refund. We will need to cancel the transaction on eBay also. I will send a cancel transaction. Doll will be returned and you will get a refund. my friend isn't to bright apparently. he doesn't even have a computer. let me know when they ship it back. sorry again. next time I will do it myself

 
If they're offering you a refund I'd just take it and have the package returned to seller (unless the doll is still a good price at $230 extra). Can they return items to seller if you refuse the fee though? Or do they just hold and destroy them? I'm not really sure how customs works there, to be honest...
 
Omg, that sucks big time :S . I understand you, I have experienced problems with Ebay sellers as well, although not as big as this one. And what the hell with the message, he/she doesn't sounds with intentions of resending the doll to you. If I were you, and considering Snow White's beauty and what she's worth, I will pay the fees to get her once and for all.
 
The first thing you should do is try appeal the charge with customs. Go to the depot with proof of how much you paid for the doll and see what they say. I think they hold packages for about 20 days so you should have plenty of time.
 
yeah they hold the package for 21 days and then it gets returned. i wont get a tracking nmber so how am i gonna know if the seller recieved it back its his word at the end of the day. and if hes got to pay a charge for accepting the parcel he might not accept it too?! surely someone has to pay for the cost of shipping it back ??
 
I believe you only have 45 days to open a dispute with ebay, so 21 more days + however long return shipping takes would probably put you out of that window. In which case you'd have no way to guarantee you get your money back. I would try to see if you can appeal the charge with customs or see if the seller can refund the difference due to his error in shipping (which would probably be cheaper than him paying for shipment to you and return shipping to him for the doll).
 
I'd pay the fees....can you pay and then dispute customs and claim back excess? Im not sure but if not, it may be worth going to customs with proof of what u paid, and trying that before u accept any charges....if not, id pay charges then either take it up with the seller/ebay. U cant risk sending her back as like u said theres no tracking no, and can u guarantee seller will actually refund you - his response sounded a little weird and not that apologetic!
 
I would print out the auction and show it to Customs and maybe they will realize the seller over valued it for insurances purposes, which also is not appropriate. It seems they will open the box and see that only SW is in there. And I would tell Ebay about this now and show them the email from seller as this is expensive and impractical. Ebay may do something for you. I have had both good and bad experiences with their customer service, so it is worth a try. And let them know of the dilemma of not being able to prove the sender will get it back and therefore the possibility of being out the entire purchase price. The seller should not have over valued the item as the parcel carrier would have wanted to see the auction page as proof of the transaction and loss so this was unnecessary and costly, so appeal to Ebay right away.
 
I would do the same thing that those above me have stated and email or even call ebay to get advice as what to do, I would normally say when shipping over seas you do need to declare the value of the item (as the buyer paid, not the original selling cost) since they did over value the item you can open up and file a case against the seller, I would also say next time if you would want get somebody you trust from the usa to send it to you to avoid the problem.

you can also get the receipt from customs, before paying for it to show (fax or email to ebay) in order to obtain advice, however it is the buyers reasonability to pay all fee's when getting an item so it maybe a no win situation where you can file a complaint against the seller, you can even message them from ebay to get advice on how they wish you to continue.
 
Oh wow... I am so sorry to hear that this turned out so badly for such a wonderful doll! The seller does sound shady (and disrespectful! They called you "bub"?!?), and what is worse is that they are not taking responsibility for their "friend's" actions. I hope you can dispute the customs fees through the method Pongo suggested. If you can get a copy of the eBay invoice that has both your contact info, the seller's info, and the item name and price, hopefully the customs agents will see reason before you have to pay anything. £150/$230 is a lot of money to pay in addition to the item cost and shipping fees, especially if the claimed amount on the customs form does not even match what the selling price was...

I would definitely give the seller negative feedback for 1) allowing this to happen and 2) not really being willing to do anything to help you other than offer you to return it (which is not traceable), but do that after you have the doll in-hand and the issue is over.
 
I just re-read the sellers reply. Do not cancel the transaction as the seller asked. Do that only when this is over to your satisfaction and Ebay says it is okay. If you cancel, he/she will not refund or even admit what happened. I would call Ebay and/or open a claim today and give as much detail as possible. You should state you know the buyer is responsible for the customs fee and you would not mind paying it but the seller over valued the merchandise and was not reflective of the selling price in your transaction. And make sure to include that if the package is returned to sender there is no record you can access. Say that you really want the doll and want to accept delivery. Don't cancel the transaction. The seller sounds like they are trying to scam you IMHO. They sound like they are wanting to have it cancelled, so you can't leave feedback, and then they will get the doll back and not refund you. Honestly, its worth the extra $230 just to make sure you get her! You can always recuperate your losses.

I would equally be wary as other people have said, it does sound like a scam, that the doll is even genuine or in good shape. Did you see pictures of the actual doll you purchased?

I know that we cannot post links or the seller's eBay userID, but when did this listing end (if you don't mind sharing with us)? I am also curious about this seller. The way that they are handling this is very poor. Instead of offering a solution, which initiated on their end (their friend's fault or not), they keep pushing to have the item sent back overseas. The bolded part above from their latest reply really bothers me. That is terrible customer service!

A simpler solution would be for you to find out what the customs fees ought to be for the amount that the listing ended for and then for the seller to issue a partial refund for the difference to you, since (again) the error happened due to the actions of their representative.
