Official Moana Merchandise!
The Hot Topic Exclusive Young Moana and the Mystery Minis are already online at Hottopic.com

The cancelled Disney Infinity figures

A Moana sketchbook ornament and music box were released on the website today!

This massive Pua plush was put on the website a few days ago as well.

Anyone else feel like Disney is putting a little TOO much faith into this movie with all of the merchandise and everything? I mean, obviously I can't say anything until I actually see it, and I'm sure it'll be great, but wow, they haven't put this much effort into launching merchandise alongside a movie in a while. I mean yeah every one of their recent movies got SOME stuff, but Moana is just getting everything. From Funko Zootopia had just four Pops and the mystery minis, while Moana has 7 Pops and a two pack, two Pop key chains, four different Dorbz, the rock candy figure, AND the mystery mini series too. And that's just from Funko.

To to me what seems like is them learning their lesson from the whole Frozen situation. They didn't make much merchandise for it because they didn't expect it to blow up, and when it did, they had to pump stuff out as fast as possible before it lost it's hype. I guess they didn't want to chance the same thing happening with Moana, but if Moana doesn't end up being that popular and all this merch doesn't sell then yeesh...again, I'm holding judgement until I actually see the movie, but I'm just saying.

Honestly, I think Funko just releases a lot more figures per series nowadays. They have so many variants and exclusives it's insane!

Maybe it's simply because Moana is the next "Disney princess movie". That and a combination of learning from the crazy Frozen merch supply shortage and whatnot. I know I'm very excited for Moana and I hope I won't be disappointed!

I'm glad she's getting a ton of merch, tbh. I'm glad they're taking the movie seriously and marketing her like mad. That, and the Disney princess movies tend to get tons of merch compared to the non-princess ones like Zootopia and BH6. I feel like this is fairly normal.

I'm pretty confident the movie will be a hit. Disney wouldn't be doing all this publicity stunt if it wasn't going to be. As for the LE doll I don't know as if it will be a big seller. I guess we will have to wait and see.

I think Disney has a lot of faith in this movie. Its a new Disney princess film, with a diverse cast and setting and its by two of their most iconic directors. That and they undoubtedly are trying to avoid another Frozen situation should the film become really popular. The over abundance of Funko products is mainly just Funko taking advantage of the license (and they probably have a lot of faith in the movie too) as Vellerie pointed out. They release a ton of merch these days, especially for new upcoming "pop culture movies" (Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, etc.).

I want more ocean themed stuff. One of the things I love about this movie is the beautiful ocean shore scenery. I want lots of translucent ocean wave stuff with sand and tropical flowers and palms. And more Baby Moana stuff, she's just so adorable in the movie.

Too bad the infinity figure isn't coming out. It wouldve been on my buy list.

No, they made enough merchandise for Frozen if it was not as successful as it was. Frozen had a lot of merchandise with its initial release. There was a lot of good merchandise for both kids and adults (mugs, shirts, ornament set, journal, pens) but the movie took off in ways Disney did not expect. Frozen merchandise sold out quickly because Disney did not anticipate for it to be as successful as it was. Honestly, the release of Moana merchandise is on par with the other "princess" films. I think they are going to be marketing Moana as a Disney princess. The movies getting as much merchandise as both Frozen and Brave did. So I'm not surprised with how much merchandise they are releasing. That being said, Zootopia did get a fair amount of merchandise when it was released. Sadly none of it was restocked so once it was gone, it was gone. Big Hero 6 & Wreck it Ralph got as much merchandise as Zootopia and Moana but again, once it was sold out, it was gone. There however, was no costumes for Big Hero 6, Wreck it Ralph, or Zootopia.

I think it's just enough merchandise to be ready, if the movie is popular. My Disney Store had the back wall dedicated to it. Bookended by Princess merch. Draw folks in with established characters, have the news items placed to attract attention. I saw the ornament, for the price it's lovely. It would be great on display, beyond the winter holidays. Picked up Hei Hei and the backpack. Blue is my favorite color so it was a no brainer purchase.

Okay, I just got classic-sized Moana at the Disney Store this past Tuesday, and she is awesome! If anyone hasn't gotten her yet and is thinking about it, you should totally go ahead and get her! She's adorable, and her hair is great. It's crinkly and very soft, not crispy and full of hair product. If anyone's wondering, she's a bit shorter than the other classic princesses, but she's quite a bit heavier-she feels sturdy when you hold her. And she stands up very easily on her own.

I love the classic Moana doll. She is a gorgeous doll. I've had on her on my shelf for about a week now and she's stayed up perfectly fine. She is gorgeous and I am so glad I deboxed her. I don't have the money for the 17" doll but her classic doll is spot on. I am very impressed with her. I got the ornament when I got the doll and it also plays a song. I got lucky and the sound on mine was amazing. I know its a hit or miss for the singing ornaments.

Me too! I was hoping she would stand up on her own, but I was surprised at how EASILY she could! I always debox my dolls (I don't even like waiting 'til I get home sometimes, lol), so there was no way she was staying in her box. I don't have the $$ for the 17" Moana either, but I'm happy with the classic one. I don't have the ornament, but my little sister is thinking about getting it.

I am very happy with the classic doll. I feel like Disney's classic dolls on the past view movies have been spot on. I recommend getting the ornament. Its a nice size ornament and its super pretty. Even if she doesn't end up buying the ornament, it would make a nice Christmas gift.

Same My little sis and I are planning to do a "joint" order for the 25% off Disney Store sale (so we can get $75 of stuff and get free shipping), so maybe I'll get it for her. I got her a bunch of stuff already, lol...hmm...it's not like you can have too many Christmas presents, though... (Well, I guess if someone had, like, 900 packages for one person, that's too many, but I'm sure you get what I mean)

Watched it! And I can't get "How far I'll go" out of my head in a good pleasant way. Very beautiful movie! Different in some ways that it might take people a while to get it, it did for me. I really like all the songs including Shiny but I think my fav is " I am Moana " Gramma Tala!!! love love her! Moana is like a mix of princesses: the curiosity of Ariel, leadership of Pocahontas, the struggle within and wanting to make her people & father proud like Mulan, knowing being stronger than fear like Rapunzel. Seeing it again soon. Oh how I wish her LE doll would capture her essence better, still hoping she does once I see her in her box.

Quick question without spoilers please!
Could anyone give me a rough estimate of how much screen/talk time is given to Moana vs. Maui? (so, not including screen time that has neither).

E.g., 95% Moana, 5% Maui, or more like 70% Maui, 30% Moana?

I couldn't give you a solid estimation since it wasn't something that I had been thinking about while I was watching, but I would definitely say that Moana has the greater percentage overall. Maybe like 60% Moana and 40% Maui (although it might even be more like 65% or even 70% Moana). At least that's the impression that I got.

More Moana than Maui. Maui comes in about a third of the way into the movie, I'd guess, and the first part is heavily Moana. Then when Maui comes in they get pretty equal screentime. (There are parts after he comes in that are just one or the other, slightly in Moana's favor).

I'd say something like 60%-65% Moana to 35-40% Maui would be a close estimate.
