Pin Release Update: Wristbands will be handed out for this Saturday’s release on Friday Sept 7, 2012 in the esplanade. The first 50 wristbands (#’s 1-50) will be handed out from 9:30-10:30AM. The second set of 50 wristbands (#’s 51-100) will be handed out from 1-2PM. The third set of 50 wristbands (#’s 101-150) will be handed out from 4:30-5:30PM. No further wristbands will be given out after the initial 150 have been handed out. All guests who receive wristbands must be in line AND in wristband order on Saturday, Sept 8, by 8:30AM or you may forfeit your wristband. Anyone arriving after the 150 wristbands have been given out may be in line at 9:30AM behind wristband #150.

If they hand out at 930.. you need to arrive 5-6 to be the first 50 "my opinion of course" and if you dont make the cut.. Wait till 130.. and if not than.. 530.. Than you just spent your whole day at hollywood just to come back the next morning.

That's just nuts. I thought everyone said the wristbands on the same day worked fine! Why would they change?

I think DSF is trying a staggered distribution, which should help with unofficial lines and eventual stampede. Given the weekday timing of the wristband distribution, I would think the likelihood of the blocks of 50 wristbands quickly running out would be low.

Let's face it. There will always be people with the means to wait hours and hours to get their pins. I don't see how this really changes anything other than not having to worriedly wait long hours in line. The wristband will guarantee your spot.

I think we should see how this works and critique it after the event.

+1. to waiting to critique after the event.

I do however see a point to some dis-satisfaction. There are no time releases that people working friday can garenteed get a wristband. The final 50 should be available at 6:30pm until gone. to allow for late pick up.

I'm curious as to how many of you plan to try to get wrist bands and around what time. Unfortunately I have work Saturday but my girlfriend does not and may try to get a wristband on Friday.

Given that the past couple of events asked for no line ups prior to 6:30pm, doesn't the timing of the distributions fall into the DSF's previous pleas for no lines before a certain time?

I'm thinking they don't want people lining up all day long. Or at the very least, are using the wristbands to give the option for people to go home and come back with a guaranteed place in line.

People have asked for this (wristbands and the ability to line up) and most have been pretty happy. I think DSF is merely tweaking things and allowing a certain amount of "early bird gets the worm" scenario to play out, since previous attempts to stop it have utterly failed.

Given that I must work, none of those distribution times work for me either. But I would have been unable to line up, prior to wristbands, either. So it's pretty much the same, for me.

I think I just realized that some people might be assuming that all wristbands are going to be gone. Has that ever happened for a weak release before wristbands? It would normally take until about 11:00pm for nearly all 150 places to be gone.

I agree. The wording is a bit deceptive and does make it sound like all distribution will cease after the third round.

I feel it is merely poorly worded and wristbands will be distributed until all 150 are given out.

Am I assuming that pre sale/eBay people will be there for the 1st distribution? Local lunchtime people for the 2nd release and leave early from work people for the last distribution?

So assuming 40 get the 1st wristband, 10 people will get the after 150 releases and so on for the next 2 distributions?

So the DSF phone will go strait to voicemail because an hour before and an hour after each distribution they will get the "are they all handed out", "how many in line", ect.

I live down in Orange County and I agree that having to make two trips up there, one to get a wristband and another for the actual release, is quite an inconvenience and waste of gas I have to rethink doing this release, I haven't been feeling well. I'll see how I feel Friday morning, but MASTER, it isn't fair to assume that it'll just be the resellers/ebay people going to the first distribution. I'm neither, I either get things for myself to trade, or I get things for other people at cost, and if I do go, it will probably be for that first distribution. But I do NOT turn around and sell things on evilbay so please don't lump everyone together.

Not lumping but if you gotta make money and "normal" people work might miss all the distributions unless they scheduled it off as you or I would have done if something of interest was released? If I did go it was to help someone out and a second set to cover release costs.

It would cost me $15 for round trip and release day in gas + time. Then add pins + tax. Unless its on my Want list, it is usually easier to pre-trade or buy from an eBay seller and is usually cheaper than me buying the pin myself and hassle with the crowd. It's just simple economics. I live on certain eBay sellers, especially cast members with their discounts so they undercut the regular seller and I get the deal without the headache.

If there is a Surprise release, anyone want to pre-trade? PM me and well chat. Holiday passed and non until next month so maybe not but it's DSF so you never know?

"normal" meaning what? Not everyone in the world works 9-5 jobs. I'm just saying, please don't make assumptions as to the 'type' of people that may or may not show up for each distribution.

It is nothing personal to you and do not take it at anyone specific.

Normal - usual: conforming to the usual standard, type, or custom

Type - particular kind of person: a person regarded as having a particular temperament or characteristics

I have purchased pins at DLR since 2005 and know the "normal" people who went to those releases being a random Surprise Pin or a Sunday release or just a scheduled Rack/LE pin that was wanted or tradable. I remember walking in DSF around noon after walking around Hollywood Blvd. doing the tourist thing. Seeing The Soda Fountain for the 1st time and not standing in line, not arriving at 5 a.m. and not sleeping over and driving to get "The Wristband" to buy this pin
.

Over the years, I and I state "I" assume to know the "normal" "type" of people. Being one of those that I describe. Being one who scheduled days off, waking up early to get in line and run to get in an unordinary line that had friends squeeze and push others back in line and nothing was done. It was the normal way back then and wait in the "Dungeon" all day for my chance to by my pin. Then the email lottery was in effect and LE jumped to 1000 and 2000 for a normal release with no specific park pins anymore.

So having DSF start the same thing DLR did by handing out wristband, scheduling time for distribution, raising the LE for newer releases and raising prices for their pins, seeing the regular people back in the day that always showed up for releases rain or shine of about 30-40 people, I think I know the Normal Type which include the new traders that have shown up prior to and after the DSF - Valentine's Day 2012 release.

Where will everyone go when DSF pins become less tradable with their higher LE's and not producing the HOT pins that everyone wants either to collect, trade or sell? Its an expensive hobby. WDW produces multiple park pins, Marquees LE's are now 500, PODM's raised their prices and ended their run of the series.

Maybe everyone will go back to trading pins and want the Grails of past or pins with LE 500's and treat them with the value they deserve?

All I can say is I collect Disney pins and I will be one of the Normal Type at a release that is important to me otherwise I will be abnormal.
