I am sure we have all received some really terrible pinpics trade offers and in fact I am insulted by some of them. Well I have officially joined the jackass trade offer club. I am so new to this and apparently need some serious tutelage on how to make a respectable Pinpics offer. Sooo I was looking through the pins on my wants list and noticed a button that says what could I trade to get this pin, well long story short I somehow offered this:

Someone that I apparently sent that borderline d-bag offer to was actually super nice and responded with "Hi I already have that pin but thank you for the offer " If you could die from embarrassment/shame I would be in real danger.:facepalm:If you have received an equally awful trade request from me please know I am not nearly as stooopid as the offer appears, I am simply the equivalent of a drunk monkey pressing buttons, Zoolander anyone?

You never "know" what a good offer is.......All people have a different value on a certain pin they have or want
So dont be so hard on yourself.
 
The thing is I DO know that that is a terrible offer, I would never ever intentionally ask for a that trade, it was simply my ignorance at how to properly work the thing. Utterly humiliating, I promise I will never be offended or or talk bad about another crazy offer.

Yes, I'm British lol, but manners don't cost anything, no matter which nationality u are! I like to respond to all my pinpics requests, as its only courteous! I really didn't take offence and u shouldn't feel so bad,I was probably sending out loads of random unfair requests too when I started out, it's the process of learning, and the pinpics isn't that user friendly!! No hard feelings!! Will check my pms now.......lol :anxious:
 
When I first joined PinPics, I saw the list of pins I could receive and I saw a REALLY good pin. I was like, whoa! I can give away this highly scrapped hidden mickey pin for this LE 250 Tinker Bell Disney Auctions pin? SWEET!
Then I read Psycho Pixie's Guide to PinPics Trade Assistant and realized I was wrong, and I shouldn't do that. lol

Don't beat yourself up. At least you know it was a goofy TR. :lol:

Some of the offers people accepted. One guy I almost peed my pants i was so excited.lol Now that I know what Im doing a little better I try not to send out incredibly stupid ones. But possibly iffy onts have been accepted a few times. I have had a lot of good luck on pinpics lately.
 
I probably sent out a few (face palm) so I'm sorry for anyone who has experienced my ill-informed-ness at trading!!

I have also received a few too though. High scrapped booster pack for PODM? No thank you!
 
Im still very gunshy about asking about trades. Ill hold off and learn more face-to-face about the pins. A few traders at DLR that my family has met have been very helpful. If I make what is deemed as a bad offer it is not me trying to pull wool over someones eyes, merely learning what is and what isnt fair trade.

Don't beat yourself up about it. There are a lot of veteran pin traders here from what I see. Im sure they get these offers many many times. Their Grail list is dwindling as us new folks have enormous grail lists. Not knowing a value on a pin doesnt mean you're a nimrod, it just means that you are a greenhorn and need to learn. From what I have seen from this site - all people are very helpful and genuine. It takes time to train rookies. Let's hope the masses have the patience to help out.

Now on the other side of the coin...

Im sure the site has seen many 10 day accounts that post Whats this pin worth and What can I get for this countless times. Im sure it wanes on the vets.
 
Oh man...i am in the minority with trae offers and such. First i never take it personal, if i get crazy offer i either say no thanks or sometimes go into their ID and ee what else they have and counteroffer. I never take it personal like people are trying to scew me cause i know how to say no.

On the other coin i have made intentionally slightly lopsided offers just incase. And quite a few times i was accepted, because again ya never know what is a grail to somebody. For example YOUR OFFER. You could have offered your DSF UP pin to a UK trader (which you did) who would DIE to have that pin cause its the only one they dont have yet AND they may have 2 or 3 or the charlotte pins, cause when they came out they got a hold of a few before they went bonkers......if you take away how they are trading, the prices and the LE are very close. So i dont think it was a ckoo ckoo offer. ya never know if ya dont ask.

Online is differeent than in person also. I have met so many people now. Some tell me "oh i dont look at tradablitly" or "i dont look at LE"

Im sure i'll get a spanking for my approach and thats ok......trading can be tricky but mostly it should be fun. They are just pins.....did i just say that?
 
I think when you first start using the pin pics trade assistant it's kind of confusing. When I started I thought that the people were willing to trade with our matchups. I didn't realize that pin pics just takes their wants and matches it with my trade. So I have offered plenty of dumb pins for really nice ones. I finally learned to work the thing, so I am more understanding now when I get silly offers for my jumbo wreck it ralph haha
 
I did something like this when I first started and then like a week later I read a thread about these kinds of offers and people not responding and I nearly died of shame. But just like you and many others here I didn't really know how it worked, and I thought: "heck, why not, you never know" cause you don't know. There are some really lovely souls on this forum and they might just think "they're just starting and could use a hand" or something and accept your offer. Or they may want the pin you're offering just as much as you want the pin you're asking for!
i have to admit though when I first used it I thought it just sent a notification to people that this specific pin was available and they might have something to trade for it, I never knew it sent out like proper requests. When I started getting emails thanking me for my offer I felt really stupid. I wasn't trying to make offers, I just wanted to inform potential traders that the pin they wanted was available!

for anyone who got a lopsided offer from me, I do apologise!!!

It never ever gets annoying, bothersome or irksome to help a newer pin trader figure out what is fair in trading/buying/selling their pins. I am fairly certain all of us have been there and done that.

Molly don't feel bad, we ALL send wonky trade requests. The other day I accidently sent someone a request for a le300 and offered a open ed rack pin. lol I clickied the wrong box and didnt review my requests before letting the pinpic bot send em off.
 
I am another who will say don't be so hard on yourself. I personally don't think it was a terrible request. It wasn't a scrapped hidden Mickey for a Rapunzel anything. I think your offer could have been close enough for someone to consider. Like many have said...you never know.

Nice thing about pin pics is that you can be "stupid" behind your computer and not face to face. LOL!
 
Oh man, this thread makes me feel better. I've probably been guilty of some craziness. At first I was just, click ALL TEH BOXEZ! I'm starting to learn, but secretly still hope I'll luck into a trade that somebody's really after. I'm so new and my collection is so small, I can't imagine being at a point where I could scoff at requests! One day,maybe!
 
Wow! I am sure I have sent out really stupid trade requests, and given that I am new to pin trading, will probably send out a few more, although I will get better as I learn. I had no clue that I might be insulting people, though. My sincere apologies to anyone I might have insulted. I'd like to say a big thank you to those traders who took the time to explain why they were declining or counteroffering, pointing out why their pin was the better one. Thanks for thinking I was just ignorant, rather than a scammer:drool:.

I totally agree Bryana!! It isn't necessary to be offended as you do not know the circumstances that the trade is coming from. The person on the other end may not know the difference between the pins at all. It is much easier to just politely say no thank you and move on

I completely agree with Dawny. When I have any match that could get me a pin, I offer it. I have had several people respond and tell me they would trade X for Y, but I would need to throw in something else. That something else could make it a fair trade. I advise you to try the same! You might be missing out on a ton of good offers

You are all so awesome for the support and kind words. I think I was feeling so bad because I really DO know the value of the two pins and it was simply an issue of not knowing what I was doing as far as actually sending it to people. I thought it was more of a what if situation and not that it was going to be blasting that out there. Although I do not post a lot I do a lot of research and a LOT of reading of the boards and I think I have a fair grasp on desirablity and of course the apparent gold standard of pin value eBay sales.

That said I have also seen a lot of fishy eBay sales and was actually bidding on a PODM last year and one of the bidders had 100% bidding with this seller and that ALWAYS puts up red flags for me. Needless to say I lost that auction and the seller sent me a second chance offer for the price I bid. Well I am not the shy type so I sent the seller a direct message telling them that I thought that it was a shady situation and that I would pass. This seller actually ADMITTED that their "roommate" was trying to help them make money but that they told her to stop! OMFG are you serious right now? I told her that I would not be buying this or any pins from them and that they were just damn lucky I didn't report them to eBay!

I have also seen a LOT of fishy crap on PinPics where it seems pretty clear that someone has like 10+ accounts all WANTING certain pins and then a very very similar account that just happens to be trading the most desirable pins. In essence creating a false "desirability" or "wants" to "trades" ratio. That is something I have been very leary of lately when going through PinPics to try and gauge the value of a pin.

I do not really covet some of the current hot lines or characters, in fact I could care less about the Tangled/Rapunzel pins not because I didn't like the movie but because the pricing is just ridiculous to me. Sure its cute and great and blah blah but $300.00 for a pin that just sold for less than $20.00 is not something I would do. The little Princess in my life is why I am even collecting and I am sorry I would not allow a 10 year old to keep much less wear anything that I paid $300.00 for!

Ok long boring response is over, thank you again each and every one of you sweetie pies up there, I really appreciate the support and I will be sure to look into the "how to" areas before sending out any more trade offers.

I totally know how you feel! I too have made dumb pinpics requests since I am new to using the site and it can be a bit confusing! Sorry to anyone that I have done this to
 
I don't go off the pin pics want to trade it's stupid and never 100% accurate. First off not all the pin traders and collectors on on it, accounts are not always updated for example users that wanted a pin lets say two years ago could have stopped pin trading and didn't clear there wants adding to the number.

I trade by
1) original location (uk, paris, Japan, USA)
2) edition size
3) age of the pin
4) my wanting of the pin



i have traded 100s for 500's because I like the 500 more it just depends on the person and the pin. Like my tangled bt I have one I won't trade it as a $300 pin I trade is as a LE 300 Hollywood pin that I camped out for. But everyone is different some people care and others don't.
