is going up for so much?? I mean I started the starting bid at $5.99 and now someone is bidding on it and its up to $308!!!
 *PUZZLED!!!*

I feel like this person is getting ripped off by the price of the pin....it just so ridiculous!!

Am I missing out on maybe what this pin is worth for or something? It's making my own mother nervous and she not even into pins....

Please let us know if the winner winds up actually paying for it? I was super-curious about this and I'm glad we now know the seller so we can get the final story. ^_^

Thanks,

That is crazy! Is it possible the buyer thinks this is a real arcade game?

I know it is unlikely, but that's the only thing I can think of.

well, to tell u my opinion, the buyer sets the price they want to pay for the product, like i think u know, i don't sell my pins, but if you are selling it and someone want to pay this much, i don't think you ripping them off, you set your starting but low and it got high on his own so if they do pay that amount then lucky you and i support you on doing whatever is best for you, so sometimes you win, and sometimes u lose, maybe this is your time to win.

again i don't think u doing any wrong, it won't hurt u to sell it for that price, it is not unmoral since u set a low starting bit, so if it does goes through CONGRATS AND BUY YOURSELF GREAT PINS WITH THAT MONEY... :)

again, it is just my opinion, but i think you a sweet girl and best of luck for you. :)

Do the two leading bidders have any bid retractions? I've never seen it happen for a pin, but looks like shill bidding to me.

I have actually seen sellers cancel bids. How is the feedback on the 2 high bidders?

How about if you cancel the high bidders bids and see what the 2nd highest bidder does?? hmmmmm!!

Can anyone explain to me what shill bidding is? And I have a random question I've always been interested in as a seller. Say someone bids up your item. Are they obligated to pay, or does ebay let them off the hook. I've had a few second-chance offers before, and found it interesting that someone outbid me but didnt pay?! I know I've had to retract best offers before, but I did it within an hour of making it. But I've also read that its like a contract and once you bid on an item you are obligated to pay. Anyone?

Yeah good questions. i am interested on these answers as well, just curiosity. :)

A shill is someone who deliberately bids up an item to high levels and then attempts to "drop out" of the bidding once the item reaches a desired price. The shill works for the seller and has no intention of winning. In the event they "do" win the seller is only out the commission to Ebay as they "pay back" the shill. Needless to say this is illegal and will result in banning from Ebay or prosecution depending on where you are located.

What you may be encountering here is someone who placed an extremely high bid expecting people to drop out at a "reasonable" level to ensure they win the item and prevent snip bidding. It can backfire when someone guesses this has happened and keeps bidding up the price to an "unbelievable" level.

I don't think this is the work of a shill - this pin is not shill worthy..

..the high bidder a***k (219) made several bids - but I do see the initial bidder n***d (238) placed the high bid of $303 - yikes..

And this pin has sold for $10 to $15 - not hundreds $$..

There are several available Buy-It-Now for $20 and up as we speak. I think the most logical explanation is just that somebody's purposely screwing with you, but here's hoping that's not the case.

Yep - I 2nd JDs notion that somebody's purposely screwing with you - I'd contact an eBay admin.. you should have them check for more than one eBay account with the same IP address of the 2 high bidders..

Works the other way round too. Bidder 1 bids an unrealistic high price. Bidder 2 drives the price up so no one will bid. Buyer 2 withdraws last minute, means buyer 1 wins with a low bid. Perfectly in favor of the buyer and the seller is screwed.

It's both called shill bidding in German, maybe there's another expression for it in the US.

In this case, the 1st bidder bid $303.. and the 2nd 'high' bidder placed several bids.. if the 2nd 'high' bidder withdraws their final bid, then the 1st bidder pays $303??

I think both bidders look screwy.. jmho :(

Oh and Hi Vala from Germany - shill must be for both - sounds right.. Signing off now from SoCal

That I agree with, it does look like both bidders are screwy and possibly work together. That's why I asked about the number of bid retractions.

In this example what I meant to say would mean the 238 points bidder withdraws (he has only one bid). Then the price for the 219 point bidder will drop to $ 17.50. If the 219 bidder withdraws his top bid the 238 point bidder would win with 303, yes.

The auction has less than 12 hours left. Does E-Bay still have the rule about no bid retractions within the last 12 hours?
