I was wondering if there were ever many pin swaps done here? I saw the PIF forum and I know it mentions swaps.

I joined here because I am part of an art site that swaps out Artist Trading Cards and we do swaps there that I thought might be fun to try here?

I wanted to see if anyone was interested in doing this?

The rules are like this:

The "Host" chooses a theme. Say for simplicity, Princesses.

Then they would say 3x3 or 6x6 (You get 3 pins for 3 pins, or 6 for 6)

Then everyone would send their pins to the host, the host would mix them up using best judgement and would send them back.

Also everyone who sent theirs in on time and followed the rules would get a positive itrader. When the host sends the pins back out and are received, they get a positive itrader from each person who receives a pin back.

I thought it would be a neat way to try to get new pins for ones maybe you particularly didn't want or those couple of pins you've been hanging onto for why you don't know. I figured maybe if I did one I could hold them for not rare pins, maybe just hidden mickeys or rack pins since I have a low itrader, or someone else could host one for somthing else :3

It was just a thought to bring a new game here :3

For now the pin it forward it the only place to swap pins, I'm not sure if people are going to want to pay the added expense of shipping pins to a "host" and then paying to have them shipped to someone else. To ship just one pin it's around $3, then another $3 to have it shipped a second time. $6 for shipping is kind of a lot. However on occasion things like this have been done where everyone picked numbers and then partners were assigned secretly, or we also have Secret Santa. However if you want to get something started you could ask one of the mods for permission and start your own swap. :)

I think it's a good idea however, I think it's something that people might want to do at a meet up or something. Because people don't need to pay for shipping and they feel better since their pins are in the same room especially if it's a large quantity.

I love swaps, count me in too! :)

If additional shipping is an issue, there's always a Round Robin type where the host chooses a theme, collects names/addresses and puts them in small groups (say like three or four, or else the wait at the end of the list is too long).

Then the host will send a themed package to the second in line, the second runmages, grabs what they want and adds back the same amount and then sends to the third (etc) until the last person in line ends up sending back to the host.

Usually the rules would be that the package must have delivery confirmation, each member publically posts (what's in the package, what they took, etc) when they receive as well as send out and promises to send out within a week of receiving. Technically the host will end up with the same amount as they sent out but it'll be of different pins.

It's only $1.64 (including tracking) to ship three pins if the trader purchases postage online.

Oh wow. I thought no one liked the idea since my thread went to like the bottom of the page for a while xD

The Pingo thing sounds fun! I don't /quuuiittee/ understand it yet but I'd love to play! That way shipping isn't a gajillion dollars.

And how big are the pins you are shipping? I mail art supplies all over the world and things like a few pins would never cost so much!

I don't know where you live or what resource you use to ship them, but it is 2.80 for me for one pin with D/C, if you can give me the website you use where it only costs 1.64 I would definitely appreciate it. Because if we can keep the cost down I'd certainly be interested. Although I still would rather have to only ship once instead of sending pins to a host and then again to the person getting the pins. I prefer to put my very limited pin budget into pins, not postage.

It's $1.64 to ship one ounce with d/c via PayPal. It's $1.80 to ship up to three ounces with d/c via PayPal. If you don't want to use PayPal, download Click 'n Ship (aka USPS Shipping Assistant) from the USPS's website. Then, it costs $1.95 to ship up to 3 ounces with d/c (and you have to go to the post office to ship/pay for postage).

Since I've always clicked "continue without paying postage," I don't know if you get a discount if you pay for the postage online with Click 'n Ship (but you probably do).

wow, we gotta get you a paypal account... my average is $1.64 plus the cost of the bubble envelope/wrap. which you can get at great prices in bulk. average, pin wt is about 2 oz with package, usually 2 pins still stay under 2 oz. even then, up to 4 oz is only 1.81. so $3.00 would be for a huge multi trade or a couple jumbo's.

sorry to highjack yer thread for a second or two. :)
