PinPics New Ownership Informational Discussion (as well as requests on what you would like to see available in the new site launching later in 2021)
Honestly, things would be much improved if the pin names STARTED with (AP) or (PP). Then it would be obvious when looking at the pins which one you wanted from the search results. Right now they are the last thing in the pin name, which means if the name is too long it gets truncated and you have to click into the pin to see which one you want. But I bet there is not a lot of eagerness from mods about having to go into each listing and re-order.

The information listed on each pin is not complete sometimes and not consistent
Like Limited Edition is just yes or no.
No Dates
The locations aren't specific

the description writers are just as confused

Welcome to the community! I hope you know that you have inherited quite the problem child, lol. And please know that a lot of the pin community is skeptical and distrustful of new Pinpics owners; we've been through several now who have promised a lot and rarely delivered on any of their promises. I appreciate you reaching out on this forum to get on-the-ground feedback, it means a lot to us that you are making an attempt!

I think most of what I have to contribute has already been said:

I'd like to echo pretty_omi that you should be able to search words with an apostrophe, like for Mother's Day pins, etc. It would be helpful to include more general Google-like search functions, like being able to include quotation marks for exact phrasing (ie. "Rescue Rangers"), or minus signs for excluding results. As a Christmas/Winter collector, it is impossible to search the Pinpics database without slogging through thousands of results for Nightmare Before Christmas, so it would be helpful if I could search for 'Christmas -Nightmare' and exclude those results.

It would be wonderful to include the ability to add photos to the "Counterfeit?" tab to point out specific errors to look for in known counterfeit pins.

And I don't know if this is something you can fix, but I still never get email notifications when I get a Pinpics message; they always go into my Spam folder, no matter how many times I mark those messages as Not Spam. So I just have to make sure to periodically check my Pinpics account, which I know many people don't do on a regular basis.

Thanks for listening, and good luck!

Ooh, this! I don't even get emails anymore when someone sends a trade offer, not even in my junk mail. I'm sure I've made a lot of people upset because I didn't respond in a timely manner - I find myself only logging in rarely over the past year and then see a trade offer from three weeks prior or so. When I got the emails of trade offers, I'd log in almost daily.

Some suggestions I didn't see mentioned (if they were I am sorry I missed them)
  • A way to (on the pin page) submit edit suggestions for info that isn't on the pin. This way you don't have to make comments searchable, which might muck things up.
  • If possible, a more robust search system that also allows filters/ways to exclude results. I know when I was searching for a tinkerbell pin I had, I had so much to slog through and being able to exclude results like, group pins (where there are other characters) etc might have helped.
  • Make it easier to know a users personal link. It took me forever to figure out how to link to my profile as the profile page I am given when I click on it is not unique to me, I think I only got my direct URL by being logged out and searching for myself. Also, similarly, easy to share your list of trades/wants.
  • Change the current photo system where people give up their rights to photos they took if they submit it for the database*, and stop putting PinPics watermarks on all images. (already mentioned by someone else but wanted to reiterate as this is important)
  • Make it so there can be more than one photo for a pin. Being able to have a section of the pin to show what counterfeits/scrappers look like, and the back of the pin, will be helpful. Also would make showing pins that open up/move/etc better than doing a 2 in 1 image or not shown at all.

Anyway, I wish you good luck and I hope things go well with this.

EDIT:
*Was going off outdated info, chubs191s reply below corrected me.

If there's no exchange of goods or cash, there's no signing away copyrights to a photo. Pinpics used to have their TOS state they own any rights to your photo up until a court ruled that a person cannot waive their right to copyright under a TOS. You can opt to give the free use of the photo on a website, like how Pinpics has their TOS now. I'm not even sure if the watermarks are legal, since the original is still owned by the copyright holder.

On another note, y'all might want to think about making your own TOS, because the forum uncovered a couple years ago that it was copied directly from the Disney Interactive website with the word Disney exchanged for Pinpics, but not Disney Interactive.

Ah apologies, I was working on old info I guess. I knew that TOS are hard in general to hold up in court, but I didn't know about this specific case. I edited my post. Thank you!

After spending the first decade or so contributing tons to the original PinPics (along with many other regulars at the time) only to get kicked in the teeth by the next group running the place, I have no plans to bother trying to correct or help the mess that the site became under terrible ownership, especially as there still seems to be ties between the new owners/the site and that group's other businesses.

But while I wish you luck in turning the ship around in the right direction, I think the PinPics ship sailed and sunk sadly many years ago.

Jabberwocky you are definitely entitled to your opinion. I will tell you that My Husband, my sister and me OWN PinPics. No one else. I have been a collector of many things and an Antique Dealer. I know how important resources are for people who collect. My husband is an Engineer and a Turn Around Specialist (turn failing companies around) and this is not something we took up or entered in lightly. We believe in building a better resource for the community. I am hoping soon to meet some of you at events. Those who know us and how we operate are excited for what we can bring to PinPics and what our vision is for this resource. We cannot change the past…but we can make the future. I understand the pessimism and frustration….but I can tell you that we are people with integrity, an amazing team of engineers and programmers, and we are people with years of experience and proven success.

I have to say I am super excited to see how you fix the site up! I know changes are sometimes good and sometimes annoying, but I really have hopes that you will get it back to working! So, big welcome and huge thanks! Can't wait to see! I LOVE PinPics, and have only been around on it for about 3-4 years, so don't know it from way back in the day. :)

Agree with a bunch of comments. These are the basic points that I would really love to see:

-Top thing . . . Turn off trade assist on members who haven't done anything in 6 months or so (Get all the 'trades' off the list that aren't really 'trades')
- Notifications sent to me when I receive a Trade Request (right now, only receive notification emails when someone actually types a message - as in PM)
- Would love to see Limited Release added, instead of just LE No and Yes
- A way to submit edits would be great, since so many listings have lousy titles and some could use more description
- Ideally, would love a place where you could add the PP numbers of other pins in the same set/series

Also, just a thought here. I've added hundreds of pins to PinPics, and I know that it has always been a very 'BAD' thing to double list . . . however, sometimes it is impossible (when previous listed pins have terrible titles like a Pooh Loungefly Mystery series having a few pins listed without Loungefly or Mystery or the Series name). Also, it is completely impossible to know what has been submitted but not approved. And I've been threatened with banning for a week or month multiple times because of double-listing for both these reasons. I would love to go back to contributing by adding pins, but to be honest, the strife from the Mods was horrible. Would love for this to not be a major issue (when a double-listing is not the norm or it is obvious that the submitter just didn't find the previous listing or something).

Hi @MollyAnne , congratulations on the purchase (we're Facebook friends, BTW) I wanted to know if access to my account would be restored? My account was deactivated, and I'm not even sure why. There were some people who were outright banned, and I'm sure they would like to know whether they'll be let back in to the fold, so to speak.

Thanks,

-D.M. Turner on FB.

PinPics is not affiliated with Panopolis. It is a separate entity wholly owned by my husband Joe, my sister Mallory Carr and me…Molly. We are transparent in all of that…no hidden agendas.
We are planning to have a separate virtual presence in Panopolis City (which will be a virtual City surrounding Panopolis…a huge Virtual Theme Park) when it is launched, but PinPics.com is PinPics.com and is and Will be separate.

I’m all about giving people a fair chance to prove themselves, so you have my full support @MollyAnne. I think we’re all a little scarred and jaded by the previous owners who ran the site to the ground, but I believe under the right leadership (and led with good intentions), the site can be restored to its glory days and dare I say, be improved upon.

Collectors, traders, sellers etc etc can all benefit from the site working efficiently again. I’m sending you the best wishes in this huge endeavor.

We will be looking at this and inquiring on banned accounts as we look to the future.

Okay, so another big issues was moderation / pin addition process alluded to by @stratasfan .

On old Pinpics, when people added new listings they were automatically added. The cons of that were that some people didn't perform adequate searches beforehand and added duplicates. Or people didn't fill out all the information. This annoyed the moderators who had to go back in and clean things up.

New Pinpics, everything went into a moderation queue and you couldn't add a listing without uploading a picture. It sounded better in theory than practice. In reality what would happen was, say, mystery sets would get released and someone would add the pins they had, but they couldn't add the ones they needed to trade for, because they didn't have all the info they needed. Especially, not the picture. Other people would just wait for the missing pin to be added. People didn't know if they should add the pin or if it HAD been previously added and stuck in the moderation queue. Entire series wouldn't get added together, but spread out days, weeks, months. And there are still series where one or two pins are still not in the database. People were delayed in ability to make trades because the pin wasn't there. The impact for users was that timeliness, and completeness of which pins were released that week, was sacrificed for theoretical completeness of the individual listings. But it didn't seem like the supposed benefit of less work for the moderators, happened.

So the question that will need to be answered for New New Pinpics, is what will be the priority going forward? Timely additions. Complete list of pins for new series / release days. Even if a picture or additional info is missing because the person most motivated to add the listing doesn't have the pin in hand and the ability to add that info (or sometimes it was a case of the person willing to add, didn't have the technical skills to add a picture)... Or complete individual listings even if that means delays in the pin being added to the database.

I will also say this also seems to be a bigger issue for "lesser pins." There seems to always be ample motivation for WDI, DSSH and other high end pins to be timely added, while rack pins or pins from more obscure sources, the delays can be long.
