Ok, so I met the artis behind these pins this last week, I asked her a million questions, and one of my most pressing ones, was why and how in the world could the be doing away with our beloved PODMs? I explained to her this is the only series of pins that WDW traders have going for them, how difficult it is for us to trade with those in other park in the world, because we don't usually have special pins.
She hinted that these may it be gone forever, but maybe just taking a break to see how they can get better and maybe they would come back.
i felt very hopeful, I'm crossing my finger that they are just taking a break and will come back to do the movies that we are still missing.
 
It has nothing to do with what Adrienne or even the Design Group thinks, though. The reason they're stopping them is that Burbank doesn't want to provide the film scenes anymore.
 
If the PODM pins continue past 2012, I would just hope for two things:

1. A larger edition size - these pins are so gorgeous that I would collect them even if they were Limited Release or Open Edition

2. A more even distribution of the pins between DLR and WDW - as it stands right now, the pin distribution is about (I've heard and completely believe) 1:3 (500 at DLR, 1,500 at WDW) and it isn't working because:
a. DLR has been completely selling out - resort wide - by 9.30 am the day of release (the pins last at least the day, if not longer, at WDW)
b. these releases have gotten so stressful at DLR that even though I live within driving distance (about an hour from doorway to main gate), I still consider either staying on DLR property for magic mornings (which doesn't reduce the stress) or *flying* to WDW for a shared release (simply because it's so much easier in Florida)

As sorry as I was to hear about the end of PODMs, I was more relieved because, well, the releases had gotten so ugly - at least at DLR. I would love the pin series to continue - but the way the releases have been going and seem to get worse - while PODM pins like Brave, Up, Wall-e, and Sleeping Beauty would be simply gorgeous and I would love to own them as well, can you just imagine what the pin releases themselves would be like??? And I, for one, am dreading those pin releases - and the pins haven't even been announced yet.
 
I'm not sure I buy the argument that Burbank won't let them have film strips to cut up anymore. They still sell framed film cells for movies as recent as Brave.
 
Maybe they are just taking a break, and will try other things to see if they will have similar popularity. Perhaps when they realize the $$$ they made off these, they will change their mind. Lets all hope! :x:
 
Noooooo These are tough enough as it is. Like others said, I was kinda happy they were over. As much as I'd love the Aristocats and Sleeping beauty, I know those releases will be nightmares! D:
 


Just a couple of comments:

1) I'm not sure a larger edition size would be the answer. That pretty much killed the POH pins. It isn't really that there aren't enough of these to go around, there are plenty, it is that people are trying to make money off them and the mad rush to get the top selling scenes that is the problem.

2) I'm not convinced the distribution is 3:1. I was talking to someone in WDW and they said a cast member told them the packing slip said WDW received 1000 Tangleds which would mean it is 1:1. Granted, cast member information isn't always reliable, but it does sound more realistic to me. When you look at ebay a large portion of the pins are being sold out of CA. Plus, a large portion of "pin people" are also in CA. Combine that with the fact that the CA locations are far more compact than the WDW one, of course it is going to be more of a mad house. Also, WDW has had a good portion of horror stories, there just aren't as many active forum members from there to tell them. And, changing the distribution does nothing for the people that don't live near the parks.


If these return, I'd like to see them be online exclusives. Back during year 1 when it was suggested that they be in mystery bags or sold online I hated the idea because there were so many "dud" scenes with year 1. It is different now. With year 2, there really aren't any "dud" scenes (except upside down cels). True, there are still exceptional scenes that are more desirable than others, but none that are just horrible like there were before. So now, because the scenes are good and because of the madness in the parks and price gouging, I wouldn't mind them going to online exclusively. You would still get a good scene, if you are lucky you get a great scene, and there is no madness at the parks. With an LE 2000 online they probably would not sell out immediately and some sellers may be discouraged because they don't get to pick out the scene to ensure that they get one that will sell for a lot. That way seems a lot more fair to me.

I don't think increasing the edition size will hurt the value of these pins as much because most people want multiple pins. Unlike other pins where people are content with having one for their collection, people who collect PoDM often want multiple scenes, characters, poses, etc. Increasing the edition size would actually open up the number of scenes they could do. We'd get a chance to see more villains and supporting character which would attract people that collect those characters and hopefully keep demand high even at a higher LE.
 
NOT happy about this news. I am so sick of these releases. Not the pins, I love the pins. I hate the releases.

Let's hope they stick them all in a mystery package if they decide to continue.

+1. as much as I would love to see a Hunchback of Notre Dame PODM. to me the hassle, headache, frustration and then the complaining on here about unfairness is just tooooo much.

I do think the mystery package idea has merit!
 
I don't like the idea of the black bag mystery package at all. The way the PODM releases are at DLR right now is that people basically have to buy what they're offered, of the limited choices they're presented (usually between 4-6 scenes to choose from). If you don't like the 4-6 scenes, you have to go to the back of the line to look at more pins ... and right now, if you decline to buy pins, you won't get to buy ANY pins at all. Pins at DLR have been selling out WELL before the end of the line runs out.

Furthermore, if they make them black bag mystery pins, I think it'll just drive up the cost of the 'grail' scenes because people have to be lucky to get them - and potentially require the purchase of even more scenes to be lucky enough to get them (and therefore, charge more to offset the purchases to acquire them).
 
I love these things but such a pain to get. It is very bitter sweet. I am not ready to end the PODM pins tho. I want a ton more movies to have these pins.
 
Hmmm interesting. . . . I kinda hope they continue - but I too want larger edition sizes - i dont think it will kill the series at all . . . I think it would realy help to make it less stressful - and honestly if these arent as highly sought after I am ok with that if it doesn't have to be so ridiculously hard for me to get the ones for my collection.
