Secondary Collection - Briar Rose Memorial Collection

Being down to your final four Tangled pins is an amazing feeling, but it's a lot of WAITING and hitting brick walls. I'd been toying with the idea of starting a secondary collection for a few months now, but nothing felt "right" - it just felt like I was starting another collection just to start it, and I don't know about you guys, but I really love when collections have a story or a special signifigance to the collector.

Having said that, last night I came to the decision that I really do want to start a secondary collection of Briar Rose pins in honor of my grandmother. "Sleeping Beauty" was her favorite Disney film and I credit her and my mother solely for my insane love of Disney. She had all sorts of amazing stories about seeing film premieres at Radio City Music Hall, going to the World's Fairs and seeing Walt's innovations and made sure that, even as her health started to decline, she would take me and my younger brother to Disneyland as often as she possibly could. She was a beautiful, elegant, timeless woman who believed in fairy tales and true love, and that's what I see in her favorite film, Sleeping Beauty.

I lost my grandmother when I turned thirteen. It was the most brutally painful day of my life, and as my wedding creeps closer and closer, I am having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that she won't be there with me physically. "Once Upon a Dream" was her favorite Disney song, and we're trying to work that into our wedding in some discreet way. I think about her a lot, I miss her and love her a lot, and while it's silly and simple, I'd like to build a collection of these pins in her honor.

Why do I tell you this? I don't want or expect zaps, and this isn't a sob story. I personally just love hearing the stories behind people's collections, and this is the story behind my new side collection. Thanks for reading.

Really kind of you to say, thank you very much. Again, even putting feelers out there. I'm excited for this collection because it's not as "high stress" as the Tangled pins. Don't get me wrong - I love when new pins are announced and there isn't any better feeling than pinning a new one in a shadowbox, but this will be a fun, low-key collection for me to start going after over time.

Me too! We all have special meanings and significance behind why we collect what we collect, and I wanted to be sure before I started something new that I was doing it for an important reason to me. So this is for grandma, the craziest most wonderful dame I ever loved.

Oh yay! Another SB collector. I love your story. I collect sleeping beauty pins because I have a back story as well. Not only do I love the movie and some of her pins are so beautiful my mother is a disney fanatic.


My dad and her would save up money like crazy to take my sis and I to disneyland at least one a year. We could never afford to go all the time. She would save a whole year! It's funny once we would enjoy our day at Disneyland the very next day she would start putting away money for the very next years Dland trip. She was such a disney lover that sometimes we would just go to the disney store in the mall and window shop at all the different toys, figures, movies and just disney merch.


My mom especially loved disney films we owned just about every disney film on VHS. I was a big tomboy when I was younger. (Grew up with a bunch of boy cousins) so trying to get me to watch any princess films was a challenge. Princess films were her favorite. But I watched sleeping beauty with her over and over. My mom said it was because it had a dragon in it and I love dragons when I was younger.


My mom and my relationship crumbled when I was a teenager. I was going through a lot and I know I hurt her feeling many times. It took along time for our relationship to heal eventually we got through it. Till this day at 30 years old she will sometimes call me here little sleeping beauty. I have learned to appreciate the film much more as I have gotten older. I collect sleeping beauty not only because she is my favorite princess but of a time when my mom was just there for me and she never gave up on me. Her endless love has just made me understand what kind of women she is and someone who I would like to be to my children someday.

I know your frustration. It's been years (years) since I have gotten a Figaro (newer ones do not count). I then began with Si & Am-same brick wall. So now I dabble with Fox and cute cat pins that catch my fancy. Paula collects everything else :facepalm:. Good luck with your new collection SB side collection.

Love your story. I too collect and love SB! I remember this being the first Disney movie I watched so many years ago. It will always remain my favorite. Today was an AMAZING mail day, I am so excited and so happy and ... aaah! So full of joy over my newest Briar Rose additions. I have a shiny new pin book coming to display all of these beauties, I can't wait to organize them in their permanent homes!
