As we are getting more and more members, who are very creative and do wonders at expressing themselves, perhaps it is time to talk about signatures.

I can't believe that it has been more than a year, but there was a time when Laz was the custom siggy maker for DPF folk.

At that time, Cicada made a request about signatures Laz created:

as a consideration for the forum and other members, can you keep the designs to UNDER 200px tall?

thanks.

and looking at the same thread I can see our beloved admin proclaiming

it's now 650 x 225.

In fact, it should be 650 x 225 px or 125 kB - whichever is smaller.

You can find the original thread here:

I do not mean this as disrespect or offense to anyone who enjoys these vibrant and colorful images. But, I personally am somewhat tired of having to scroll down pages and pages of very little content to read, yet many many oversized signatures.

I think having simpler signatures might also take a wee bit load off of the forum and its crashes.

Just my 2 cents ...

On a different note: Laz, you never made me a siggy. Looks like I was next in line and you left me ..... baaaaaaaaahhhhhh !!!!

Oh Judy, you got me excited now. I would love to see your new siggy :)

I am fine with my current siggy, thank you so very very much for offering though. I learnt how to squeeze in clickable icons from Hope. Mine is plain & simple, yet to the point ;) This is my current bucket list of pins .. LOL ....

Scaling them down does make sense, and I'm one of the offenders. Unfortunately I'm also tech-challenged - how do I make it smaller?

Decreased the size of mine. :) When you're uploading a sig though it says the specs are:
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 650 by 400 pixels or 125.0 KB (whichever is smaller)

So I guess we need a standardized answer?

I think it is something Cicada should look into when he gets a chance. That is why I raised the question. Even with 650 x 400 px limit, we have too many siggies that are at least twice that size.

I also believe some of the latest forum outages might have stemmed from him working on our weightloss forum. He had to add a new part that is visible only to members that participate in the challenge. DPF's version to the Biggest Loser spearheaded by our fearless leader PinPal.

I think that if anyone is wondering if their signature is too large, they can just ask themselves if their post (post and signature) fills more than the screen. Do you have to scroll down to see everything?

If the answer is yes.... then you have your answer.

Just my .02 worth. :)

Gifs are amazing.. THANK YOU very much.

In all seriousness, how limited are we talking?

you mean in our signatures right?

not posts?
(not that I plan on making another 75 gif post..)

I'm perfectly fine with limiting gifs and such. :)

I'll just have to find the perfect ones. ;)

What are you thinking for the signatures?

On another forum I am on the limit is 640 by 300 something.. possibly 320.

Long back, when Cicada made his requests, he also had placed something in place that sized down everyone's signatures automatically. That feature disappeared during a routine forum maintenance.

Uh-Oh im guilty of having a big siggy, funny I just messaged the maker of my siggy to remove gained pins and add new ones, I will ask him to size it down if possible, because I myself am clueless on how to make them.

EEk sorry about that Selen <3 I do need to ressurect that thread at some point <3 You will be First <3 <3 <3

On this subject, I think the 200pxl size is too small honestly, you can't really see the pins that well the smaller you make it. BUT, (a very big but ;) btw) lol I do think there are siggys that have streached way over the limits of what a siggy should be lol Somewhere in the middle I think would be the best AND I think everyone who is making siggy should keep in Mind the DPI of the Image. If you create the graphic at a 72dpi made for web size, the Image will load fast. If you create the Image at lets say 300dpi the Image will take much longer to load. therefor making it harder to load pages on mobile devices <3 Both of these size options keeps the image at the same visual size but makes a huge difference in the speed of loading on the internet. 300dpi is meant more for printing pictures <3

Hope this helps <3
