ok so I havent been on pin forum for like a suuuuper long time but I've been on here long enough to notice everyone calls ebay,
Evilbay? LOL i just thought it was funny.

Can someone explain. I mean its evil cuz pins are so darn expensive but I still dont get it?!

and whoever came up with this term. soooooooo clever haha

Well there's a couple reasons.
1) People say their authentic pins. Okay - let's purchase them right? That's a 50% chance their fakes right there. So let's say we buy that Jessica rabbit brazil pin *cough* for 400.00 it's taking a risk your paying that for a fake.
2) price bump up. People who are just out for money *again cough* sky rocket prices
3) There's always a risk of buying and getting damaged goods but pins are worst! The backing could be ruined (the post). It could have had a scratch that the seller claimed "didnt know that was on there." and then they could add. "by the way no refunds..." .....thanks......
4) and what I hate the most is lets legitimately say there's a good pin going for cheep. Someone comes in and bids.....alright...let's add more money to it.... Where again out bid... And that's where you go "I wonder if it's the seller themselves bidding on a separate account trying to up the price?"
5) bidding...bidding....bidding... Who's that going against you? Come to find out later it was a fellow DPF member where if you would have known you could have been like "hey (example) LiliMay I want that pin! Can I give you a pin from my collection instead of bidding." because no kidding I (and some others on here) would gladly be like "you know. I don't collect snow white. Go ahead fellow DPF member." and because we don't know suddenly you/ we see a post going "OmG! I lost my grail to someone on eBay! I've been searching for that for years!!!" and here you are sitting there like ....

That's several reasons why I call it EvilBay myself.

Oh, I see, I personally like ebay cuz there are so many pins that people will trade so much harder than what they really are. like gomes pins and other stuff where its ;like you could buy it for 65 or something and they want like 10 pins. A lot of people are really hard traders and kinda just make me want to keep buying stuff! Pin addiction!!!!! LOL

I started using the term "evilbay" during the tenure of Dizpins.com. Dizpins had outlaw (through a filtering system) the word ebay in both posts and chats. To get around, i started to call it evilbay. The other purpuse was because eBay temps one for items you dont have.

As an Ebay seller and buyer.... I call it Evil bay for several reasons:

1~ it's just funny.
2~ it is the baine of my existance. As a seller, I have to deal with fee's, winning bidders giving up, typing the title of the item exactly correct so people actually see it...
3~ deciding to buy, I have to look at a sellers feedback, what else they are selling, exact description of the item, and basically make a guess as to weather or not I am actually getting a good deal.

You will hear TONNS of people talk about getting counterfiets and scrappers from ebay. My general rules to avoid this problem are:

1~ do not buy "lots" of pins. Need cheap traders? check out the DPF sales threads instead.
(support my fellow traders instead of scrap dealers)
2~ if a seller has ANY negative feedback, I just dont buy. (resolved or not, theres a reason it is negative)
3~ if a seller is selling multiples of an LE, I just don't buy. (multiple of the same LE may be counterfiet)
4~ If a seller is selling pins at a rediculous markup, I just don't buy.
(crazy markup indicates a reseller, not a trader)

"I Mean its evil cuz pins are so darn expensive, but i still don't get it?!"

you pretty much answered your thread :)

psycho pixie I CANT LOOK AT THAT HORSE'S MOUTH:lol::lol: but everything you said ,,is how i feel. The scrappers are the worst, and sometimes there isnt neg feedback, and i dont buy lots....i will say i have always gotten my money back though. i also agree withbeeatingu in that i to dont have a ton of LE traders and that makes it very hard to trade for a grail. I have bought a few, but i did do very well in that dept at the circus, knocking 12 pins off my 2 page list!

I'm kind of impartial when it comes to Ebay, I've been on Ebay long enough to know the buying and selling tricks, but I'm rather new to pin trading, so it is quite different considering the counterfeits are quite difficult to snuff out without seeing it in your hand. However, since I just started and I'm really new to it, Ebay is one of my only sources for getting some of the rarer pins that aren't extremely HTF. I don't live near either park and the NYC Disney Store has a few pins, but not many, so when I'm not on vacation, it is really difficult to get pins, Ebay is one of the places I can always rely on to have an authentic version of the pin somewhere (and 10 scrappers/counterfeits per 1 authentic). I am looking into buying on this site as well, but sometimes I find the prices here are higher than Ebay purely because people know on this site we are all pin buyers/traders so we'll put out a little more sometimes for that pin we really want.

Yep... I have the problem of not being able to accomplish any successful trades on here or PinPics, which pretty much leaves eBay as my only resource. It's always a little harrowing each time, when I rip open the package to see if I got the real deal or not. So far I'm as sure as I can be that I've been lucky and not had any scrappers.

Evilbay. I like it. It fits. I've had a few bad experiences with ebay. I had a pin up for sale. I also had a reasonable buy it now price. I don't make the prices unreasonable since I am usually selling to fund more pins or a Disney trip. It didn't sell, but I had 15 watchers. Then I got an email from one of the watchers offering me a lower than my buy it now price. So I thought about it, then figured I didn't have to pay the ebay fee, etc. So I did it. Then I saw it on ebay for 3x the price and I realized they took me and the person they sold to for a ride. But I think the person trusted the seller because they had a long history on ebay. I've had a couple other strange things happen on ebay. So I don't use them anymore. I used to be on Dizpins, but after that site closed, I only knew ebay. Sooo glad I found DPF.

Ehhh...I've bought a few from ebay, and they all have been authentic. I read the feedback and compare the picture they have up to other picture of this pin. I'm glad I found dpf though, because I can trust everyone on here with authentic pins. :)

I'm not actually finding any of your reasons to call it evilbay. Ebay has buyer protection which means regardless of the seller's policies of no return's or whether the lie about the description or sell you a counterfeit pin, you can file "an item not as described" claim and get a full refund plus your original shipping costs. Ebay almost always sides with the seller, and while I've never had a problem, if you have pictures, proving the false claims the seller made about the authenticity/condition of the pin, ebay will refund your money.

As far as price gouging that happens here as well. And if the price is too high, just don't pay it. People keep complaining how expensive pins are, but if no one gave in to the exorbitant price hikes, sellers would eventually bring the price down. So while you and I may not be able to or want to pay $400 for a pin, if someone else is than that is the price that has been established, not by a seller but buy a buyer. Buyers determine how much something will sell for.

And this last thing I hate to say, but there are members here on DPF that sell scrappers too.

For some people, who don't live near a park ebay is the only way we can get pins. Online trading has become near impossible. And while I don't sell and I certainly don't own stock in ebay, I think it's like the best thing ever.

Sorry everyone I can't seem to figure out how to double quote.

Again, there ARE DPF members that sell scrappers and counterfeit pins.
