LOL, it's a thingy because I wouldn't call it a rant, but it's similiar to a rant. I'm just sharing what I'm currently feeling, and seeking out the opinions of others. :hsd:

Just lately, pin collecting has been stressing me out a lil' bit. Not in a super upsetting way, but more in a somewhat frustrating kinda way. The main reason for this seems to be the sudden influx of pins getting added to my Wants list. I'm the type of person that will only make extra effort to get a newly released pin if I really REALLY like it. Otherwise, it just gets added to my Wants list until I obtain it. Assuming I ever do obtain it.

:( Because of all these new additions, I've felt the need to remove a lot of older pins from my Wants. Don't get me wrong, they're pins that I've decided that I no longer want, but it's the fact that I felt the need to do that that bothers me. And in the last week (well, last week and today), I've done it 3 times. This morning, my Wants list was close to 250. It's now down to 215. I removed a bunch of pins that I just wasn't entirely sure I wanted anymore.

Next, I sent out a massive amount of trade offers in the hopes of obtaining some of these older Wants. It quickly became apparent that my Trades list mainly consists of Core pins, and my Wants list mainly consists of LE pins. So how exactly am I going to get any of these older LE Wants?

Based on what I've been doing, I'm worried that I'll get to a point where I'll think that deleting them is the only way of getting rid of pins from my Wants list, because obtaining them just doesn't seem to be happening. But then, it would end up being a bit of a vicious cycle, as it's not like I'm going to stop adding newer pins to my Wants list if I like them.

 It's all very confusing! I currently have 12 different collections, but again, due to recent additions, that's gone up to 15. I'm just trying to find a balance between happily wanting all that I want, and keeping myself grounded in realism. I know I'm never going to have all of those 215 pins that I want, so why do I continue wanting them?

So...yeah. I'm just wondering if anyone else feels the same? That they need to remove pins from their Wants in order to add new ones? Or is there people that don't care how many pins they have on their Wants list? :p Am I just being silly, or thinking too deeply about the matter?

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I also know that I will never have all of my wants, but I only delete them if I have them or have honestly decided I do not want them anymore...or in a couple of cases I noticed I had the normal pin and the AP/PP/etc...I dont really care about APs so deleted them :p

As for your trades list, that is a hard one for me to personally answer. I seem to have the problem of having things people don't want. I am just now getting to where I buy things that I don't want for the sole purpose of trading them (not that you can tell now with my 0 trading...gotta love re-organizing!) Its tricky as you never know if people are going to want the pin or not. I think you have a great trades list - a lot of variety! Just don't give up trying and some of those pins will find their way to you!

Pshhh I have more than 1000 on my wants list xD And don't be negative, I believe that someday in the future I will have every single pin I want :) I am fristrated sometimes too with not having pin money and declined trade requests, but then I remind myself that its all just for fun! Just remember that :)

I agress with disxar...i wouldnt remove anything from your wants...lol mine is about 700, only about 50 are on my printed "grails or real wants" list, the pins i really try to get. I believe the more pins you have on your want the more it opens up to possible trades. If you get a pin and later thin your collection put it on your own/trade category which gives you more trading options...alll this applies if trading is something you enjoy as much as collecting.

If you want to maintain a wants list that isn't too big, put all of your other wants in a private pin group. That way you'll have an accessible list, if someone wants something you have but you aren't finding a match from you want list. And you have the numbers handy in case you ever want to put something back on your primary wants list.

I always have an internal battle with my wants list. When I first joined DPF, through the end of 2011 I tried to keep it as small as I could focus getting as many "odds and ends" I was missing to complete sets. Small for me, was between 300-500  It was quite successful, but I was left wondering if I was missing out on potential trades by having a shorter list. At the beginning of 2012, I decided that I could expand my focus to add back some of the full wants for things like Figment, Animal Kingdom, and a lot of my 4th of July wants (public pins released at DL & WDW), plus a lot of the DL stuff I missed out on between 2005-2011. My list is now up to almost 1200 wants, but it hasn't resulted in anymore trading. My traders, just aren't desirable. But my big secret is that I have a 2nd Pinpics account (with the changes, you need to make sure secondary accounts are set up with a different email address as your primary) and as of last night, when I removed pins I had obtained, it is at 6549 pins. I try to add everything I might ever want to that list, but I know it is incomplete, because it's hard to get everything when the database is so huge.

I also have my wants broken down into lots of categories via private pin groups, and I maintain a Top 100 pin group to prioritize my most wanted.

firstly... its a want list... since when does it need to be "grounded in realism??" I have pins on my wants list that I might never obtain. I dont remove them, they just sit there, wanted forever. People cant offer a trade if they dont know you want a pin.

I pick a collection, or group of wants to focus on. and when all trade possiblities are exhausted on that, I go to the next one.

250 pins, or 3 pages of wants is not bad. I know of people with 16 pages... thats at least 1500 pins!!! on thier wants.

Now, granted, I dont have 15 "groups" or collections to work on... I do have 4 groups for me, and 3 groups for my daughter of pins I want. I also have retraders in my wants, things I can use to obtain pins for my private collection. I have some of my husbands most sought after pins there as well.

you dont need to remove pins to add more to your wants. If you decide to stop collecting one group/movie/character... removing that from the wants is fine, your gonna trade away the ones you have, so why keep looking for them right? But dont remove pins simply to keep your list short.

I add pins to my want list just because I like them. Some of them I would probably never trade for because they are really rare. I only have 3 collections currently, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty & the Beast. Those are the pins on my want list that I would trade or buy. The other pins on my list are there because I like them but wont lose sleep if I never get them. I sometimes "clean out" my want list because I just don't like the pins. I have about 800 pins on my want list. Don't worry about having too many wants. Eventually you will get the pins you really want.

You have a pin my husband needs and I have a pin you want. I'm sending you a PM. :)

I'm sorry your feeling that way and hopefully you can get the pins you want - I don't know how you can get them but I can hope xD

I just wanted to say that it was your posts that I stumbled across on the internet (showing your collection) that made me want to get into pin trading and the forum.

Yes, like as some people are saying, I keep a huge wants list open because it's better for trading and auctions. It gives people more chance to give you pins that you really like :)

I think it is fine to have many pins, even those that you don't think you can get, in your wants list. I have pins in my list that are super LE that I just know I can't get especially since I just started pin trading, however it's in my list. It's there not only because the pin looks beautiful and I want it, but it's to inspire me that one day I can get it :)

Although, after reading your mini rant, I went to my wants list and took some off. I'm a newbie and my list is 10 pages long T_T Anyways, as long as you're having fun and happy with pins that you trade then it's all good!

You have a pin I need but I don't have anything you want :( actually you have one of my grails. lol. So never feel like you won't get things, you have a ton of really nice pins to trade! It just takes patience. I never take a pin off my wants list unless it's something I genuinely no longer want. The longer your want list is, the more possibilities there are for trades :D PM me though please if you have an idea of what you want, from your want list, for the Sir Hiss award pin! Thank you!! :D

:) Thanks SO much for all of your thoughts, advice and opinions! I've been very busy recently, with work and with dealing with all the responses I've gotten back from the 100+ trade offers I sent out. It's been crazy! Anyways, because you guys all took the time to make a comment, I'm going to comment on each comment!

@ PatRin - Thanks for the kind words. Like I said, I did only remove pins that I wasn't entirely sure that I wanted anymore. There's no point in people offering me pins that I'm not 100% sure I want anymore. My reasoning is just a bit different, and that's where my concern came from. :) All the comments here though, yours included, are very reassuring.

@ Disxar - I love that username! Lol, I've always been a pessimist, so it's no surprise that I've reached this stage in pin collecting. I'll definitely try to be more positive though!

@ dawny - That's a very good point! More wants = more offers! Thinning my collection itself though is something I've only ever done once. I decided to stop collecting Monstro, Bruce, the Blue Fairy and the Big Bad Wolf. I don't think I'd ever stop collecting the themes I'm currently collecting though, except for maybe the newer ones. :anxious: Part of me is scared to embark on new collections.

@ hopemax - LOL, that put things into perspective I must say. The private pin group sounds like a great idea too! How do I set one up? And is there a limit to how many one person can have?

@ Psycho Pixie - I think a prime example of that is Pin 64892: Disney Tronics - Gaston - Gastron . That pin is LE 2. Someone IS actually trading it, but what could I possibly ever offer for a LE 2 pin? Yet, I've never had any desire to remove it from my list. I'm just weird. Maybe my wants list of 226 (Wreck-It Ralph pins got added this morning) really isn't that bad.

@ shooting4ownhand - It's weird to think that you only have 3 themes, but your Wants list is massive. Some of my themes are very obscure, where I'm only wanting less than 10 pins in them. My biggest Wants is Cheshire Cat, but even that only accounts for around 70 of my wants list. :) Thank you!

@ tyleet87 - Replied to that PM!

@ AgentofAnarchy - :eek2: Oh wow, really?! That's awesome! And you're in the UK too! :) Hopefully we can make a trade sometime!

@ Milky - I had many more wants when I first discovered PinPics too. As I said in dawny's reply, I used to collect many other themes until I settled on my current ones. :wiggle: I wish I could have the same level of positivity in regards to my wants as you do!

@ echoharmony - :) Thanks for the kind words about my Trades list! Your HG list has some really beautiful pins in it. I'll take a look at your Trades list just incase!
