How do people feel towards trading a pin you received in a zap? I know it really depends on the person but what is the overall feeling towards it?
 
I think it depends on the situation. I think if someone posts that they are in desperate search of a pin or puts it in their sig and someone is kind enough to zap them with it then they shouldn't trade it. On the other hand if I am trading with someone and I want to send them a little something extra but it ends up not being something they collect then I wouldn't be offended if they chose to trade it for a pin they wanted more. I do think it's a little tacky to sell a zap though, unless a person was in serious financial trouble or something.

I feel that if I zap you with a pin, it's because I wanted to make you happy. If keeping the pin makes you happy, great! If you trade it for something else that makes you happy, great! If you sell it because you need the money or because you want money to buy something else that makes you happy, great!

If I chose to give you the pin, then it's your pin now. You get to do whatever you want with it.
 

I totally agree. It's your pin now, do what you want with it. Just my opinion though.

Seconding Vixy, the pin is yours. I'm looking at this from a personal perspective and I wouldn't mind. Unless it was a huge grail or something. I zapped an American the Frozen UK "jumbo" because he missed it the day it sold and he said it became his grail. Next day he got it he sold it on Ebay. I was a bit sad tbh. So I guess it really depends on the situation or the pin.

If someone makes a big deal about something being a grail, I would expect them to keep it. But even then, sometimes interests change. So if months or years later, it wouldn't bother me. A day or a week, and I would assume they were "fishing" and it would color my feelings about doing any kind of business with them in the future. But if I zapped someone with a random pin, especially something that wasn't on their wants list but seemed to match their interests, it wouldn't bother me if they didn't keep it. And I've said as much in the little note, that if they could trade it for something they liked better, feel free.
 
A zap is a free pin given to you out of kindness. That being said, I voted "depends on the pin." If it fits into my collection, I'll keep it. But if it is a random pin that I do not particularly care for/doesn't fit my collection, I'd pop it in my trade book. I have kept each of the pins I have been zapped because I liked it. I would think most people zap one another based on what they collect.
 

I am so down with this theory I mean what if I was only looking for a specific pin to complete a set that I was building for an epic trade.
Just remember one person's gold is anothers scraps & another's scraps might be your gold.
In the end I believe as long as the recipient is greatful it shouldn't truly matter what it is that they choose to do with a gift.
Personally depending on the situation I can be very sentimental.

I agree with this 100%. Once you have given something away it is no longer yours and you should not care what someone else does with it. It is the moment that brought them joy that really matters. I believe the receiver should be able to keep it, trade it, sell it or even zap it to someone else. The joy of that moment should not be lost no matter what is done in the end.

A zap is a gift. A gift given with strings attached is not a gift. It should not matter! I do think that someone claiming that a pin is a grail and selling it the next day is a bit much though. I would question the persons integrity in that case. I would feel like they lied to me about the pin being a grail. Here is the thing though... are you absolutely sure they didn't get one from someone else and ended up with 2?

I agree that once a pin is yours, you can do whatever you want with it, but personally, if I was zapped with a grail, I wouldn't sell it no matter how much I needed the money. If I was zapped with a pin that I already have (maybe the zapper didn't realize that I had it - especially since most people have both pinpics and disneypinplace wants/trades/collection lists and sometimes keeping both updated is hard), then I probably would trade it rather than sell it; unless no one will trade and then my last choice would be to sell it to buy a pin of equal value.

I guess I just find it... "annoying" (for lack of a better word) when someone gets zapped with a grail (or what is considered a grail by more than 1 person) and then later, decides to sell it for the money. If it isn't a "grail" for that person, that person shouldn't put it in their grails list/sigtag. Maybe that's an entirely different topic (putting a "grail" in a person's grails list/sigtag just for the sake of it being a "grail" and not that specific person's grail).
 
Just my two cents worth here, but I think, as many others have voiced, it depends on the situation. For instance, sometimes a pin is zapped because it's an awesome trader, with with you can use to trade for an even higher grail pin. I always think of it as, if the person who zapped this to me knew that I traded it off to get an all-time grail pin, then they, in essence, zapped me the grail pin. It's a chain of events that wouldn't have happened without that initial zap. But of course, I've been zapped with pins that ARE grail pins! So those are staying with me. :3 It all depends on the person and the situation, but I think ultimately the zapper would be happy to know that the zappee used their pin to get something they wanted even more (not to say they didn't want the initial pin).

That Vixy is so smart!!! She beat me to what I would have said. My feelings are that it is a gift to make you happy any way you see fit to use it.

By the same token I have a bunch of pins on my wants list I get so I can trade with (usually stuff I have had great luck with when we trade in person).

I have said before if anybody is going to get upset because I trade something I was zapped, then please don't zap me. I never want anybody feeling's hurt because I used a pin to get something else. I like most people like the feeling knowing somebody out there thought enough of me to zap me.

I am addicted to the trading part of pin trading. Plus meeting great members of our DPF family has been amazing!!!

I do not mind if a person trades/re-zaps/sells a pin that I zap to them. Once it leaves my hands, whatever the recipient wants or needs to do with it is 100% AOK with me. Circumstances arise, tastes change and the giving, to me anyway is a gift to both of us because it makes me happy to be able to do it. I of course always wish I could do more, most people do I hope, but if you are giving someone something from a place of genuine selfless intention, you should be ok with whatever they choose to do with it.

True necessity is not something that everyone can understand and that is clear by the sheer amount of people complaining about being broke but refusing to sell their pins. I'm sorry but you cannot know what "broke" is if you stick by that reasoning. In fact I am more offended when people ask me to borrow money to pay bills, gas, food etc. when I know that they are sitting on THOUSANDS of dollars worth of pins. Its not right IMHO and because I am in the sucky situation of being in the largest debt of my life because of medical bills and have had to sell things I would rather not sell (no pins from my collection....yet) but I refuse to file bankruptcy while sitting on money in the form of "stuff" and I will sell everything I own before I would ever do that.

I hope this is not taken the wrong way, my heart is always in the best place but I do think that after seeing several situations where someone zaps another member and then sees the person trade or sell it and get a pissy about it, this is a GREAT topic that needs some honest (brutal if need be) responses. If you would be hurt to see a member trade/sell/re-zap a pin DO NOT ZAP IT. As I said before, things change, circumstances change and unfortunately we cannot know for sure the destiny of these zaps so its best to make an informed and prepared zap if you are the type to get your feelings hurt.

I love zapping, both sides of it and I think that it makes the world (no matter how small) a better place. The act alone would inspire anyone and when I tell people about the practice I am met with disbelief. In what world can most people imagine being met with such kindness and generosity? In my entire life I have never seen anything like this. I had been a member for a maybe a month when I received my first zap from Selen/Merryweather and I will never, ever forget it. I have that pin and hope to have it forever.

Have you hugged a zapper today lol?
 
Like many have said, I think it would depend on the pin. I will have to say this though, if someone is begging for someone to trade them a certain pin(claiming it's their grail) and some kind forum member decided to zap it to them out of the kindness of their heart, only for the zapee to turn right around and trade/sell it would irritate me. I have seen people do that and in my opinion, that is poor taste and rude. There are other people out their who would have really liked to have that pin to cherish and keep. On the other side, I think if someone zaps me a pin that wasn't necessarily anything from my wants, but matched my interests, I would probably trade it to help me get something I want.

I agree with Vixy as well.

Especially if it's a pin that has absolutely nothing to do with your current collections, I'd see no reason not to use it for trades. Personally, I think I'd be less inclined to trade it away if it related to what I collected though, as I'd see it as a more personal gift then. I don't mind keeping doubles or more of stuff I already have if it was like that, but that's just how I roll. And I think that's more in line with what others have said about zapping grails and stuff members have been begging for to begin with. Asking for something, just to use it for trades later, not as "nice". Though, it's still their decision. They might not get as many zaps after that, though. At least, not by the same person.
