I have a question...

i know you have to trade good pins to get good pins
but do you go into your collection??

and if you have,
do you regret it?
have you ever traded something away and wish you hadn't?
or
traded something that you still havn't been able to get back?
OR
have you traded from your owns, and it all worked out?!

the reason is i own some nice, rather rare ariel's
although i like Ariel,
I LOOOVE RAPUNZEL
and i cant afford to buy

so im calling on my Friends and Family's experience

:)
Thank you

Hollie

I rarely trade from my owns, but if there is a grail pin available and I don't have anything on their wants for trade I will look at my owns and sometimes offer. I'd offer some of my owned pins for the pin trader delights I need in my signature for example. But I probably wouldn't break up a set of pins I am trying to complete, only pins from random collections I have or older collections I have given up on. I also measure how hard I think it will be to acquire the owned pin again. Is it currently available for $XX or is it never for sale even if only worth like $12. What's the T/W on it? That kind of thing. I have over 1500 pins in my collection so 1 missing from a random collection isn't the end of the world if it is replaced with a pin from a collection I am oh so close to completing!

Don't trade away anything you have a personal connection with, or that you really love and would be upset at never owning again. I've never regretted trading anything away from my owns but that is because if I do it, I do it with the idea that I will never be able to get that pin back again, and I know I am either going to get something I really want in return, or trade it to someone who wants the pin more than me.

Unless you are talking about trading for the r/c you might as well keep your Ariel pins if they are really rare... I don't think Rapunzel pins are rare so much as they are terribly expensive... But that is just my opinion. :) Good luck!

I have and not regreted it. and if I thought that the pin I was trading for was harder to get and i wanted it more then the pin i was trading I would do it again.

I've sold and traded pins from my personal collection. I sometimes regretted it but I was able to either trade for the pin or buy it. I've had 2 of the UK Brave pins and I've traded both of them. I got some really nice pins for both of them. I was able to get my favorite Snow White pin for the second one I traded. I think its a gorgeous pin and will probably buy it again. It's one of the few Brave pins I like. I've traded some Ariel pins to start my Snow White collection. While I loved the Ariel pins, I wouldn't trade my Snow White collection for anything. If you really want the Tangled/Rapunzel pins, I recommend trading the Ariel pins. You might regret it but once you have the Rapunzel pin in your hands you'll stop regretting it.

Seeing how I don't have that many pins, I often find myself trading from my OWNS to get pins that I want even more.

I regret some, but usually it ends up that I'm upgrading my collection so in a sense it all works out.

I traded away 2 of my DSF Up pins, Kevin and Charles Muntz. I kind of wish I didn't, but it was to Joey (ChipDale123) and I got back pins I absolutely am keeping in my collection. It all worked out in the end, but one day I hope to at least get the DSF Kevin back in my hands.

I trade from my collection all the time. But here is the thing for me, I constantly go over it and think "do I really like this pin? Or is it in my collection just because it is that character?" If it's the later, I usually put it into my trades.

:)

Rarely trade from my collection; only do it if I'm not too fond of the pin. But then again, I don't collect every single Mulan pin or every single Belle pin.

Never. In 13 years, I don't think I've ever traded from my collection. I won't list my owns on PinPics, as once someone looks thru your collection, that's the only place they want to trade from. I had my owns on PinPics years and years ago. Once people knew what I had, they wouldn't look at my traders. So my owns list went bye bye.

Once a pin makes it into my collection, it's in the black hole forever. Would this be classified as hoarding????

Well these are very good questions. I can answer two.
1. I have traded something that I kinda regret but I did get a pin I really wanted. I traded my Ariel with Shell Necklace and just recently thought about collecting Ariel or Little Mermaid pins but still deciding if I want to start another collection. I did love that pin though its beautiful.
2. I have traded one pin from my collection, it was a Cameo Series Belle pin and it is very beautiful. I only collect BatB pins that have to do with the movie but now have started a side Belle collection so later I might add this back once I actually start the collection.

I've traded marquees out of my collection in the past to upgrade to get a better marquee but I learned from that mistake. I would trade things out of my secondary collections (Tron, Cars, Star Wars) for marquees I needed but now that my collection is near complete (Just waiting for Meet the Robinsons from a friend) I wouldn't trade out of my collection no matter what. I consider the marquees in my collection to be out of circulation because they're not going anywhere.

I have.. and seeing as I don't really have traders, its what I do almost all of the time... I don't like it so much, but if I want the pin(s) badly enough that I am trading for, I will do it and I've only regretted doing so a few times . :)

I'll be glad once I get older and I can have some traders. When I first started trading, I didn't have "traders". I just bought the pins I liked and if someone had a pin I liked more I tried to work out a trade with them. :)

The collection pretty much is locked up tighter than Uncle Scrooge's Money Bin. :) We did recently trade an item out of the collection, because we sometimes start a series and then decide we don't like the subsequent pins. In this case, it was to help out a friend of a friend and we'll probably end up with something we like better. Either way, that one pin will not hold any regrets between us and that will likely be the only pin that comes out of the collection... ever.

"What goes into my collection, stays in my collection"...but then, I've been collecting for 15+ years and I have lots of pins in my "extras" boxes including a few nice ones...

Nevahhh !! lol

Though, last week, I used one of my own collection to bid in an auction, because in the end I did think the pin we could win was more worth then the pin I could offer, and it was in the auctioneers want-list.

I felt bad after I hit "post reply" haha, but then it was too late, and I just left it like that.

But I guess I learned with that now, that I could never give up a Lion King pin that's in my owns lists, unless I really don't like it anymore, as I would just regret it too much, and I'm such a weird person, I would actually feel really bad and sad, and could even cry o_O

Well, just recently I sold (I don't trade very often) the UK gondola :(
I really love that pin, but it was for the little mermaid beloved tales. I hope to get the Gondola again! :) I know it will happen :D

For the time being I am trying really hard not to trade from my collection, but later on down the road if I feel that I can get a better pin for my keepers, I might consider trading something from the collection. But if you are having mixed feelings on whether or not to trade a pin, then I would hold onto it for a while until you are absolutely ready to give it up :)

Ah yes I have had this convo with some DPFers recently...

I think it was about... 2ish years ago that I went through my collection and took out many pins to use as traders. My criteria for that was the level of detail the pins had... I'm very anal about the detail of pins and how the characters look  To give u an example here are some of the pins I took out of my collection and put in my trade book:

34939 (thought the lips looked terrible)
90484
90485
48840
48841
(^^^ As well as some other Sleeping Beauty and Aladdin ones similar to those)

So I traded them all away and got other good pins of course... but recently I have been having complete trader's remorse for trading those away!:cry: I started to realize this bc not very any pins were as nice as those, even if the detail wasn't spot on. So far I have not been able to trade for any of those, as I have not seen them in anyone's trade books/lists :( I did get 34939 back, but I had to purchase it via Ebay for a not so grand price

So I say don't do it, juust in case there is trader's remorse. The only way I MAY do it in the future for myself is if it's for a grail pin... we'll have to see I suppose... LOL.

Never done it, because I'm too scared of regretting it.

The one pin that I have been tempted to trade off my Owns is
Pin 48180: DisneyShopping.com - Alice in Wonderland 55th Anniversary Series (Cheshire Cat) . Just never been "mad" on this pin. :p If I got rid though, I'd be too scared of wanting it again.

I haven't traded any of the pins from my personal collection yet. Then again, I haven't really done much trading anyways. Trying to get into it though :)(I'm just a shy person and have a hard time talking to people). I did decide to go through my personal collection and really think about which pins I really love and which ones just didn't actually appeal to me. Those pins are now in my traders. Hopefully, I won't regret it once I trade them....
