What do you collect?

What do you collect?
Great Lion King board! My son wants all the Scars. I have a few pins collected, they are all over the place. That is why I want to start focusing on a few themes, because right now I don't want to trade anything cause I love them all, and that really won't make me a very good pin trader will it LOL. It nice to hear about everyones collections. Thank you!!!

After so many years its prob easier to say what I dont collect...

Lilo (by herself predominately)
Dumbo
Tarzan
Minnie
Monorails
Wilderness Lodge/Fort Wilderness/Frontierland/Big Thunder Mountain RR
Patriotic
California Adventure
Summer/Adventureland/Beach/Cruise Line
Astronaut/Space
It's a Small World

and about a dozen smaller collections- Though I am far from a completest but most of my collections grow very slow now days..

-em

I collect Cars and stitch pins. The reason for the cars pins is I love the movies and I work on cars for a living. Stitch reminds me a lot of me.

I would have to say that our main collection consists of pie eyed Mickey Mouse and Holiday pins. There are several other side collections like Pin of the Month, Halloween, and Annual Passholder pins.

Must really narrow it down further, as this hobby is horribly expensive and we are probably slowly slipping into debt solely based on pins and the inability to pass on Limited Edition pins. In some ways, there is a love/hate relationship with these shiny bits of metal

I collect stitch, Ursula, Mad Hatter, and it's a small world.

Stitch because... gosh I can go on for days why, but basically I collect him because he is an alien. This archetype doesn't just mean extraterrestrial in the movie. He is a misfit in a foreign country who is despised at his home planet, but later finds another misfit who feels despised in her own planet, Lilo. They accept one another, in time, and find that they are a like and Lilo inaugurates stitch into her Ohana(family). Even when times get rough and custody battles try to separate them the ohana they have constructed is so tight that no one else can rob that from them. I can identify with stitch and without giving my life story away I consider myself a misfit in society; strange and shocking to most. For years I tried to make myself fit in, but recently come to the conclusion that if I want a "ohana" then I need to be my strange shocking self and others will flock to those unique qualities.

Ursula: She is a bad *** queen!

Mad Hatter: He just celebrates life and with the "unbirthday" philosophy, everyday is truly a celebration we must be "mad" about. ;D

It's a small world: Honestly, the ride is a classic and every time I ride it I feel that we actually do live in a United world. Also, this is the place where my family and I spent a wonderful moment, when the snow fell, during the Disney christmas season.

I hope to add more to my collective endeavors as the years go on!

Among other things ... Toy Story Mania (the attraction) .... It's my favorite ride

In the few months I've been collecting, I've focused on two different themes:

01. Classic Animals - My main collection. As a little girl, my favorite Disney character was Figaro (the black and white kitty from Pinocchio) and I was also a little bit obsessed with Chip & Dale... so when I started collecting pins, I was immediately drawn to any pins featuring those characters.

After getting several Chip & Dale pins and a few Figaro's, I decided to branch out and collect other classic animals (i.e. characters from Bambi, Lady & the Tramp, and 101 Dalmatians) as well. I'm very particular about my classic animal pins, though - The simpler, the better. I don't collect any pins that I don't LOVE the look of.

02. Peter Pan: My newer collection - still pretty small. Once again, I am by no means a completist - I just collect the Peter Pan pins I like. "Peter Pan" by J.M. Barrie was one of my favorite books and movies growing up, so the story has a special meaning to me. (Oh, and I'd like to state for the record that I do believe in faeries. I do. I do.)

I also have a few assorted pins that don't belong to either category - One Belle pin (my favorite princess), and a handful of Haunted Mansion pins (my favorite ride). But I don't consider myself a Belle or HM collector.

I collect a lot of things.

Lion King is my biggest collection. I don't focus on any one character, I want them all!

Si and Am
Lucifer
Cheshire
Brave
Maleficent
Aristocats
Carousel Horses

smallll collection of:

Mr. Toad
Sword in the Stone
(these are for hubby!)

I would also like to collect Tangled, but so far have failed miserably.

I am pretty new to this hobby but I have found that I prefer to collect Star Wars/Star Tours pins and anything to do with Alice in Wonderland. Also...I will get random pins that just catch my eye.

Is is very difficult to narrow it down to a couple of themes but as of right now, I collect Toy Story, Jack Skellington and generally anything that I like that's purple (fave color).

The entire reason why I went into pin collecting/trading was when I was waiting for my friends to finish a ride (I'm scared of heights so there are various rides that I just don't go on) and I went into the pin store that's near Adventure Land (i think?). The first pin that caught my eye was this Dumbo pin that was sprouting out water from it's trunk. I don't know why but seeing Dumbo just makes me remember how much I love Disney. I don't think it was the first Disney movie I ever saw (though it could be if I could remember) but I remember it was one of my favorites as a child. It is the reason why I adore elephants in the first place. So that's how I decided to collect Dumbo pins.

However, when I went on PinPics and this forum I realized that there were hundreds of pins! And many many Dumbo pins. I remember I just typed out 'Dumbo' in the PinPics search and recieved pages of them. However, as I scrolled down, I realized that although I adore Dumbo not every pin are my favorite so I decided to be selective and collect only those that I truly like to own and appreciate.

As I joined DPF and was exposed to more pins, I found a love for pins that were from Japan/Tokyo Disneyland and the Pieces of Disney Movie pins (PODM). Thus, I started incorporating those amongst my Wants. I do love other Disney movies and Princesses (Belle is my favorite), however I only find some of the pins to be something I truly want to have so I guess I'm pretty pin picky

I hope reading mine and everyone else's story can help you decide what kind of pins you want to collect.

Is it just simply because one of Disney's film has captured your heart?
Is it because of a ride at Disneyland that makes your heart beat with excitement when you gaze at the pin that commemorates it?
Is it your love for a particular animal(s)?
Is it because of a certain character that you just think is oh so cool, awesome, or beautiful?
Is it something personal that reminds you of something that happened in your life?

Whatever the reason is, always remember to enjoy collecting and trading them.
That's one path that can never go wrong
