Hi, everyone!

I've been spending some time pouring through the TREMENDOUS resource that is PinPics... there is SO much information there. Almost too much. I think I would like to start another princess themed collection, but I'm having a hard time narrowing down my search to something manageable. (Searching through THOUSANDS of princess pins is making my head spin.) I was wondering if anyone could help me narrow down a collection to start?

Here are my thoughts on criteria:
- Attainable. I'm okay with the hunt, and I can be patient but I am not okay with spending hundreds of dollars on a pin.
- Beautiful. I love the princesses, and I want a collection that is representative of their characters and beauty.
- Realistic. I am a huge fan of open edition pins. Starting on a collection of LE 100's will be frustrating. An older series is fine so long there are actually people are willing to trade, sell, etc.

To give you an idea: I am only missing three of the current Mystery Princess Crest pins, and I love them so much! They look amazing displayed together, and they've been very easy to find either in the parks or online inexpensively. Same goes for the Princess Portrait Watercolor pins. (One of my FAVORITE collections!!) I've also considered the Heart Shaped Jewel collection...

So? What do you guys think? What should my next Princess collection be? Thanks for all of your guidance in helping me start out, you guys are wonderful and have been so supportive so far! <3

like you i collect punzle ( hard one huh!) but i have a side collection of ariel, lots of pins to choose from and most arnt too expensive. the more classic the princess the more pins tend to be, belle is a great one too, most her pins have great faces and comes in lots of dresses. you could narrow it down with a certain dress or form ( like auroras as briar rose or belle in blue dress)

hope this helps in someway

Hollie xx

It does, thanks so much for your advice, Hollie!

My Tangled collection is obviously the most important thing to me, but I like the idea of having a side collection that doesn't make me want to rip my hair out, haha. I'm sure you can sympathize. I thought about moving into Sleeping Beauty (my favorite "classic" princess) but focusing on either blue dress or pink dress. I think I'm shooting myself in the foot by being so darn specific!

Here's another question, just for knowledge's sake: Does anyone find that any one princess has a higher "scrapper" rate than another? I kind of feel like that's a silly, loaded question, but there's so much to know about this hobby, and while I've always HAD Disney Pins in my life, I guess I never really considered myself a serious collector until recently...

Thanks again, dear! (And Happy Christmas!!)

it certainly relieves some trading stress!!!! i completely understand. you get to that point where you feel like hitting yourself with a frying pan

Karl collects Aurora, she's a good one hundreds of pins to choose from not to mention a beautiful movie, i think there are more pink dresses then blue if that helps

sorry i cant help with the scrapper numbers

MERRY CHRISTMAS BEAUTIFUL

I think the Heart Shape jewel princess pins are beautiful! I tried to get Snow White recently on eBay but just missed out

How about Princess with their horses? I am not sure how hard these ones are to obtain though .. theres a couple different ones

Hollie, we Tangled girls gotta stick together!! I think we need a secret handshake or something. Good to know on the pink vs. blue, I'll definitely consider it. I simply adore the artwork in Sleeping Beauty. I love the angles and colors, and for some reason, I'm kind of obsessed with her hair. (It was also one of my grandmother's favorites, and that's inspiration enough for me!) Thanks again!

And Lyndsy, I think I am going to start going for the Heart Shaped Jewels! There aren't many of them just yet, they seem to be attainable on eBay and I've seen them for sale here, too. Plus they're open edition!! Woo!! And they'll go great with the Princess pins I'm hoping someone will find me from DLRP. I haven't seen the horse collections, maybe I'll go take a peek at those too!!

If you decide to collect Sleeping Beauty in her blue/pink dress, you will have an easier time starting a huge collection because there are more of them. A lot of her OE pins are of her in those dresses. Some of her pins can get a bit pricey but a lot of them you can get for a reasonable price.

As much as I hate to admit it but the Tiana and Jasmine pins tend to be cheaper than the pins of the white princesses. They both have gorgeous pins but you can get most of Tiana's pins for under $50. She has a few LE50-100 pins that are a bit more pricey but I haven't seen many of the Tiana pins sell for over $100, besides the designer princess pin. I also think Tiana has some of the most gorgeous pins. You can get a lot of nice Jasmine pins for under $50 but her lower edition sized LE can get pretty costly (designer princess, reveal/conceal, etc). Some of her older pins can be hard to obtain if you are a completest (not a bad thing, you just will be hunting down some pins).

All of the hidden mickey pins with the princesses have scrappers. I would say Snow White or Ariel have more scrappers just because there are more pins of them. However, you can find scrappers of a lot of the rack pins.

I totally can identify with your love of Aurora's hair: it's so styled and pretty! In my book, Aurora really wins the "Best Hair" award among the Disney Princesses for her lovely curls and those signature bangs! Just for my two-cents, I think it is best to keep to pursuing pins by each series, rather than pursuing a whole character set only because of the sheer amount of pins that may have/are produced for each character. My pin collection started out with the DLR 50th Anniversary Princess/Prince Banner cast lanyard pin series but has since become very organic and overgrown through its lack of focus.

You could collect a certain subject instead of a character? ie: Cupcakes, cutie characters, cats, horses, etc.

Does a master list of Scrappers exist? I saw some scrapper/counterfeit entries on PinPics, but is there a more comprehensive list than that? You guys are all so helpful and offer all kinds of fun insight and ideas.

Jenna, I considered a Figaro collection for a little while (I love that little guy!) but I think I'll end up sticking with just princesses, since there doesn't seem to be a lack of them. Haha. And my original idea in posting this thread was looking for collections that were easier to obtain or coming down the pipe, but I've been stalking some users' collections and spying lots of collections by character rather than collection. There is certainly NO lack of character pins, it blows my mind. It definitely gives me lots to think about.

Shivatopia - I'm a costumemaker and do a lot of wigs. I'm working on Rapunzel's braid right now, but I really want to take a crack at Aurora's curls in wig. It looks like so much fun! Gorgeous character. I love her so much.

Off to a Christmas party with Prince Charming. ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY friends, and lots of health, happiness and love to you and your families!!

my thoughts.. if I were collecting certain princesses i would collect one of each hair color. lol

one red head, one brunette, one blonde and one raven.

red heads: Ariel, Merida, giselle
Brunettes: Belle, Rapunzel once her hair is cut, Sofia
Blondes: Cinderella, Aurora, Rapunzel
Raven: Jasmine, Tiana, Snow white, pocahontas, mulan

That's such a good idea, that would look so good all together on a board. Note to self: Must not get ideas!!!

Princesses with animals? ie: birds, horses, fish, etc
Princesses in a specific costume
Glitter Princess pins
Princesses in a certain pose

I don't know just throwing things out there!! Haha!!

My advice from a long time collecting: you should simply collect princess pins you LOVE. Doesn't even have to be character-specific although it could be. Don't love it, you're gonna end up trading or selling it anyway. So look around pinpics, pick out some you find dazzling, take your time collecting and enjoy it.

Let's start with the awesome news... seeing as you collect Rapunzel pins, anything else you try and collect is going to be a dream! Rapunzel is basically the priciest character to collect, so all the other Princesses are a breeze compared to her... <3

Anyways! I think amongst the other Princesses, Belle and Ariel have some of the most HTF pins, and they are also the most expensive. But every character has their scary grail pin which is nigh on impossible  -just in my opinion! Of course, when thinking about what to collect, just collect what you know you'll be happy with- I am working to be a Jasmine completist, and some of the pins I have on my want list aren't that pretty/great- IMO, it's a TON easier not striving to be a completist! <3

RE: the Heart Shaped Jewel series- I only need a couple more to complete my set so far, and I must say that they are absolutely stunning as a set! And as you said, the appeal only goes up because of their OE edition size <3 Paris pins are soooo beautiful, and mostly OE so they're not too much of a challenge! I say they might even rival the R/C Disney girls in terms of beauty

Saying all that, GOOD LUCK with your collection! ^_^ There are many wonderful, friendly members on here so attaining any pin at all shouldn't be too much of a struggle <3 Happy Trading! :wavey: <3

p.s. Here's something I put together, just to assess general Princess popularity... using the R/C Princesses as examples! <3 Not a perfect popularity model (not taking into account edition sizes (reveal or conceal) and other stuffs), but here we go!:

Name T/W
Rapunzel 3/348
Ariel 3/222
Belle 6/192
Jasmine 5/140
Snow White 4/136
Pocahontas 1/121
Aurora 6/121
Mulan 3/118
Cinderella 5/113
Tiana 6/99

<3

Ahh this thread is testimony to how amazing you all are! I just got home from my fiance's family's Christmas party, and everyone had such great ideas. Kristine, I love your idea of collecting by hair color! Haha!!

I think for right now I'm going to set my sights on finishing the Mystery Collection Princess Crest pins (only five to go!) and I will start hunting down the heart shaped jewel collection. I want to have full sets, and my biggest concern as someone mentioned above is that I will end up with a massive collection of random pins. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing! I just know that I'm an obsessive kind of person and I love having "full sets" of whatever I'm collecting. Plus, it will help me focus my displays a little more, which bring me so much joy.

Ahh, these Paris pins are killing me. I just got my DLRP Rapunzel and Pascal pin in the mail today, and I have to say, it's so much more beautiful in person than it was online. I don't know what it is, but the Paris pins are definitely some of the most beautiful I've seen... I hope WDW gets some equally beautiful princess pins soon!!

Thank you all for your input, I really value your ideas!

If you need help with the Heart shaped jewel pins.... I would love to help you

YES! I would love your assistance - when will you be at DLRP? Also, hey Dutch friend! I can't remember if our paths have crossed before, but I used to live in Well in Bergen county. I miss it so much.

Being a long time princess collector (mainly Ariel and Belle but with a side addition of Rapunzel and Tiana, and all the other princesses - oops) I'd definitely recommend following your heart and collecting the pins that make you smile most If you want to go with sets I can recommend the bottle cap series e.g. <pinpic>25521</pinpics> or there are a couple of fun hidden mickey sets, the rear view mirror series <pinpics>58972</pinpics> and the princess quote series <pinpics>51758</pinpics> which are neat but to the best of my knowledge both of the HM sets have been scrapped. But you should totally just pick out what you like the look of and go for it! Oh and on a side note I have two of the crests your missing up for trade if your interested

That bottlecap collection is adorable!! I don't know that I'd go for all of them, but the princess ones are really, really cute! Thanks for the heads up, I didn't even know these existed. Unfortunately, I have scrappers of the Hidden Mickey princess pins. A well intentioned friend bought them for me on eBay before our last trip and had no idea that scrappers were a thing, haha. But they are cute! Thanks for the advice!

Oh and on a side note I have two of the crests your missing up for trade if your interested

Ahh! I wish I had something to trade right now, but alas, nothing. Thanks for thinking of me! I'll get my hands on them soon enough! <3

I was going to suggest the Paris heart shaped jewel series too tbh as it's my favourite collection of princesses that I have going. I actually like them better than the crests!

You might struggle to get Rapunzel but that depends if she is still on sale, I'm going for New Year's and am hoping she will be there. If she is there when I go then I am sure her OE size is large enough to make her easy enough to get.

For example, this pin Pin 80965: DLP - Rapunzel was released 6th November 2010 according to pinpics, but I picked it up in Paris this March/April and trust me it was in every store that had pins! So that's over a year of being in stock, here's hoping that the new one sticks around for at least a month!

I think I've decided that I definitely want the whole Heart Shaped Jewel collection, haha. As it turns out, I ended up getting a very good deal on Rapunzel on eBay recently, but only in the past few days did I decide I wanted the rest of them, including a second Rapunzel for a different display. If you're still willing, and of course, if the set is still available, would you perhaps consider picking me up a full set?

I'm learning that the OE status can be tricky like that - sometimes they're super easy to find, and sometimes they aren't. Bleh! I hope I'm able to get my hands on the 2013 DLRP Princess Pins. To say that I'm obsessed with them is an understatement!

Let us know what you decide.. maybe we can help!

btw... i collect the birthstones, kiss kiss ones, crest, hearts, and the horses.. so.. if you need some help.. also the cars with wheels that move! just pick something you love!

Good luck!

Yeah I can do no worries I'm just off now to update the thread I have running for Paris pick-ups so u can check out the details over there. I believe that so far they have released: Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Tiana, Aurora and Rapunzel. I did a huge order from Paris when the cinders and snow came out (I'll put a picture in the thread if I can find one xD)

Hmmm another potential set of OE's would be the UK OE Princess in a Heart series, a friend of mine has all but Ariel and they look pretty together. They're not as stunning as the jewel ones or R/C but they were cheaper for her to get (original price was £3 and she got them for the same a couple months ago, they were released yearrrrrrs ago though)
