Cast members pins worth going after?

Before I knew about scrappers, the thing I enjoyed most about trading with cast members was talking to them. Sometimes the people didn't want to chat much, but sometimes we heard interesting stories and met fun people.

So I think still are. You just have to be more careful. My plan when I'm next at DLR is, after I say "May I please look at your pins?" (which is how we always start CM trades) I'm just going to look a little more closely now that I know what to look for. I might even ask if I may look at the back of the pin prior to trading it. It might make things take a little longer, and might mean I make fewer trades, but that's okay with me.

I did stop trading them via Pinpics at all. I got scrappers from very well-meaning people with good ratings. For online trading of hidden mickey pins I'm sticking with DPF members. :)

Their value will vary depending on the ratio of people wanting vs people trading, just like any other pin.

Some of the CM-only designs are quite lovely; I especially like the 2007 "Pin of the Month" DLR attraction pins.

There used to be a time when if one had a CM pin it was generally considered great if you could get it, but I think that's changed over the years. If one person is looking at someone else's pins and finds one they like and the trader who has it tries to make it appear that their pin is more valuable because "well, this is a Cast Member pin," that doesn't really work anymore. Just because it's a CM pin doesn't necessarily make it more worthwhile to get. Which character (or attraction, or whatever) is on the pin is what most people go by. So for instance, if someone has a CM pin that just has a less popular character like Minnie (don't flame me, Minnie collectors! LOL), a DSF Brave pin, in comparison, is going to be much more in demand. If the CM pin you are looking for and want is something like Haunted Mansion, it's probably going to be popular because of that, not *just* because it's a CM pin.

However...if you really like the CM pin and want it, go for it as much as you would for any other pin you're dying for, and if not--nah, don't bother.

I get them if they're in my collection already. I don't go out of my way to get traders that are CM pins unless they are having a sale... lol

I still have a trade lanyard for CM walks. We walk the park alot with our kids, good excercise. We stop and trade or at least look at every CM lanyard we see. True, you have to be more careful of scrap these days, but I just ask to see a pin before I trade for it.

CM's generally love to chat. Its a break from the task they are assigned and most CM's really enjoy sharing stories or visiting with my kids. We even see a couple of them regular enough that they give us hugs, know our names or the kids get excited to see them. Its part of the "magic" for us.

If you're going after HMs, try trading from people on here or PinPics.
You'll get much, much better results.
