For example, when I first started I was looking for Haunted Mansion and Nightmare before Christmas...
Now it has changed and my main collections have become Monsters Inc, Snow White and a wider focus on attractions in general (with a smaller sub collection of Small world and extinct attractions lol)

So how has your collection changed over time?

I started with hidden mickey's, like most probably. Then moved on to LE's with the Sci-Fi Academy pins in June of 2011. My science Fiction and Tomorrowland stuff was what interested me most. So Space Mountain, Star Tours, Rocket to the Moon, etc. Then those pins kind of fizzled out, there aren't many new releases for them, I'm salivating at the thought of Iron Man ride, Star Wars/Avengers park, etc. Till then, I picked up princesses because there are always new ones and everyone has them. Cars Land opened so I collected that. I started DSF about 18 months ago. Collected marquees and Pin Trader Delights. Marquees kinda got screwed so I focused on PTD's, now those are getting harder to get so now I'm not sure what to do. There haven't been many releases lately I just had to have. WDI did Cars Land christmas trees and I do keep up with the DSF marquee's and PTD's as they come out. Wreck-It Ralph pins are my fave but I have them all so they need to make a bunch more!

Only Lion King for me, but thanks to my sister who I find Marie stuff for, I'm kind of already expanding my pins to also Marie (and her brothers).

I started with Orange Birds, Jessica Rabbit and Tron... Boy has that expanded LoL

I collect waaaaaaayyyy too much now

Off the top of my head (even though there are probably more lol)
If it's in BOLD that means I'm a bit of a completist in that theme <3

Started off with Stitch and that's still my main collection. Also collect pins from my favourite movies so that now includes: Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, Monsters Inc...and most recently UP and Wreck It Ralph =)

I started with Brave. I don't have any more Brave pins in my collection. I'm just not a fan of how they look. I'm debating whether or not to get the OE Merida pin again. I then moved on to Little Mermaid and Beauty & the Beast. Both collections are now around 10 pins each. My main collections is Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. My sub collections are Pocahontas, and Sleeping Beauty. Snow White is my largest collection and most favorite. I'm debating whether or not to start a Disney shorts collection. I've been watching them recently and I really love them.

Started off collecting ALL STITCH PINS then switched to ALL STITCH INVASION then switched to STITCH INVASION OF MY FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIES then switched to STITCH INVASION OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES + UP + WALL-E

And now...

STITCH INVASION/PoDMs/BELOVED TALES/NICE PINS OF MY TOP 10 FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIES (IF APPLICABLE).

Favorite Disney Movies all time:
1) Aladdin
2) Lion King
3) Toy Story (1, 2, 3)
4) Tangled
5) Up
6) Mulan
7) Finding Nemo
8) Wall-E
9) The Incredibles
10) 101 Dalmatians
Honorable mentions: Enchanted, Brave and Beauty and the Beast

I started with Sorcerer Mickey and pins with Walt Disney him self on the pins, I got very sick and when I got better I wanted to make a new and fresh start also in collecting pins, I used all my Walt and sorcerer Mickey pins as traders and started collecting Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid, than also Tangled and Oliver and I still collect these 4 :)

Haha, that's funny because I also started with Haunted Mansion and NBC. I have completely changed and started collecting Sleeping Beauty, just started Enchanted and my other small collections are Madam Mim, Darkwing Duck and Luwig Von Drake. I also like jumbo pins with all the princesses in them.

I started with bottle caps and puzzle pieces, bottle caps I still love and are still part of my collection :) (I really need to complete these and frame them). I then moved to Mickey I do believe and then this turned into sorcerer Mickey. Soon after I started collecting Villains. This then changed completely and I focused on sleeping beauty. I then dropped Maleficent and the faries and started collecting Just Phillip and Aurora. I have traded almost all of these away just have the odd one left. Except a large Aurora and Phillip collection. I then started collecting PoDMs for a short time. Finally I started to pick up a few sword in the stone pins which I have a small collection of and still collect. Untill I finally came to Black Cauldron which is my focus and my most loved collection (Although I do still love my Aurora and Phillip).

This is just me haha not including Hollie she took a whole different route.

Hollie started collecting Stitch first (this was before tangled came out). Although she did continue to collect stitch after tangled came out but started collecting tangled aswell. Then stopped collecting stitch with the aim of collecting at least one pin from every Disney film. Most of these have gone now but kept on a few in my collection. Ariel became her relief collection to ease the stress of Rapunzel :)

I also started out with Hidden Mickeys and kept most everything. I do collect Mickey Mouse and that hasn't changed. I knew I couldn't keep everything so I cleaned out my books and now I am concentrating very hard on getting the Soda Fountain PTD pins. I have also taken a liking to the Ariel pins. Crazy choice I know. There are so many and everyone is collecting her. I don't expect to be able to get very many of her but they really are beautiful pins and I will be grateful to get what I can.

I use to only collect Stitch pins but now I collect Stitch le 100's, Jessica's and Marquees.

We started as with most, collecting Hidden Mickeys. We liked the idea of the sets so we still have a lot of sets of Hidden Mickeys and that turned to Mystery Sets (luckily we traded for those). We still collect these sets (though only those that we like).....then we got crazy and started collecting themes.

There were about 20 of them that we narrowed down to about 12:
  1. Sorcerer Mickey
  2. Steamboat Willie
  3. Ariel
  4. Beauty & The Beast
  5. Lion King
  6. Aladdin
  7. Pocahontas
  8. Jack & Zero (NBC)
  9. Marquees of movies we love
  10. Pluto
  11. Maleficent
  12. Misc Finds

Yes, we were crazy and people kept telling us to narrow it down so we did to our top 5 movies:
  1. Ariel
  2. Lion King
  3. Beauty & The Beast
  4. Aladdin
  5. Pocahontas
With a side collection of Marquees and Misc. but then that was WAY TOO much

So now we're finally in just the following:
  1. Ariel
  2. Beauty & The Beast
  3. Beloved Tales
  4. Marquees we love
  5. Brave (Recently started)
(We even mega downsized our Ariel & BatB collections to only pins we absolutely love). So our collection has narrowed down A LOT since we first started.

Well, I started collecting Lilo & Stitch and they are still the majority of my collection.

Then, I added Si & Am because I have two siamese cats at home. Then, I expanded to other cats (Cheshire, Tigger, Figaro) and recently started looking at Lucifer (from Sleeping Beauty) and the Aristocats cats.

I also have a small collection (just because there aren't many) of Emperor's New Groove. The first time I saw this movie, I hated it. But the second time I saw, it I loved it! (This happened to me with The Incredibles movie as well, but I don't collect those pins.)

This is a really interesting post. C'mon everyone else, tell us your stories!

I just started in Dec 2012. but at first everything caught my eye. Now I have narrowed it down, and I admit Hidden Mickeys are not as appealing to me. lol

I collect with my husband and daughter. We collect

Snow White (me)
Ariel (husband)
Tink (me and husband)
Wreck it Ralph(me and dd)
Tangeled (me)
Merida (me)
Tiana (me)
Oswald (dd)
steamboat willie (dd)

I am not a completist though at any of them.

At first, I just collected pins I really liked. Then, I started a few casual collections, like The Aristocats and The Lion King. I only collect the pins that I like from my casual collections. I never thought I would have a main collection, but that changed after I saw Wreck-it Ralph, lol. So I went from just collecting pins that I like, to having casual collections, to finally having my main collection.

Oh my goodness, Kupo!!! I love your table! That's awesome! Before I started collecting/trading, I bought 2 pins...both of which had Micky and Minnie. So when I started really collecting that's where my focus was. I collected Minnie alone, Mickey alone and them together. I don't care for pins with backgrounds or dates, etc. I guess you could call them silhouettes. I also collect Mickey icons.

i stopped collecting Mickey and Minnie together. I like sets that look cool together like the princess shoes and character hats.

Then.... Like an idiot, I decided to start collecting PTD pins! Why would ANYONE who doesn't live close by and can buy them at the Soda Fountain start collecting these??? Like I said. I'm an idiot, but I just LOVE THEM! I own a handful and hope to get more.

Even within my main collections, I'm most focused on ones that are part of sets like the Disney Dreams Collection pins in my icons. Also the balloons in my signature. In my Minnie and Mickey collections, I prefer ones where they are dressed as other characters or professions.

So other than the occasional cute little sets, I mainly collect:

1. Minnie
2. Mickey
3. Mickey Icons
4. PTD

also trying to get all the Montana pins. There aren't many, but they are tough to get!

The only things I used to collect but stopped are 1.) Yearly park pins. They're the ones that come out each year, like Disneyland with 2011 on it. I stopped because they pretty much all started looking the same and I got bored with them. 2.) Movie anniversary pins. There are just too many. I can't keep up with them all. Now I only get them if they are from movies that I have pin collections for. .......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Since I'm not a completest with most of my collections, I see no reason to not keep the pins that I have that I like. If I never get another Bambi pin, it doesn't matter. I will still love the handful that I do have.

I started with Orange Birds, Jessica Rabbit and Tron... Boy has that expanded LoL

I collect waaaaaaayyyy too much now

Might be easier if you make a list of what you don't collect =P

My primary collection has always been park/attraction/land/resort pins for both Disneyland (but not California Adventure) and WDW. Some of you may collect a single attraction, or two. I collect all of them. Time, nor cost, nor difficulty has steered me away from this. I also collect any holiday pin. And that remains the same.

The only difference in my collecting is in regards to character pins. I have my primary themes: Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, and Dumbo. My husband does Pluto and Rafiki. These have not changed. However, in the early days there were a lot more random characters that we collected. Cinderella, Jungle Book, Robin Hood, Sword in the Stone, and several Pixar movies. And, oh yeah, Lilo & Stitch. We still collect some of the pins from those movies, but they are really our favorites and not completist in any way. So I have my Heimlich pins, my Toy Story with the traffic cone pins, Bagheera from Jungle Book, Luigi & Guido from Cars, and a few other odds and ends. And Stitch is down to pins that fit my other collections. So I still have Holiday Stitch pins, and some Stitch invasion pins, and everything fits on one page in one of my pin bags.

If anything, my collections are starting to spread out again. So many of the pins that were at one point out of my reach, are common and unwanted now. So I find myself buying random pins and starting new collections. Although, these tend to be series pins from international locations. Since they are series, they are at least finite.
