DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion
amen to this!!! because in europa it is a true hell. the US has no idea even peter pan was sold out fast in the eu. we have more collectors then america and less dolls so amen to this

....this seems difficult, if not impossible, to prove or verify?

Like, I get that the sites are problematic over there, and the physical stores are few and far between, but to say you have more collectors...? How could you know that? That seems like a random statement you just threw out.

Like, at least they're releasing some over there? I mean, Disney is pretty international nowadays, but for the most part, it's still an American-based company. It's nice that they're setting aside ANY of these highly LE items to release over there. Imagined if you lived in Asia, or South America.

It might be easier over here in some ways, but I'm still at the stores at 5 AM for some releases. I was there for Dollmageddon, too- that was a hot mess. And I have to be up at 3 AM on Sunday nights and go to work at 7 AM. My point being...Disney isn't making it easy for ANYONE. Full stop.

I agree it's hard for everyone collecting any LE dolls. When I started with the 2011 Designer dolls I thought that was the worst I'd seen in terms of dollmagedon but I think that's yet to come. We really don't have more collectors here in the EU and if anything we have the greatest advantage because we have a number of EU stores and we can order from the USA site. Oh and not forgetting the Harrods dolls we've had so if anything I'd be counting ourselves lucky!

Try living in Canada and seeing what those guys have to go through to get a doll. Pretty much anywhere that doesn't have an online store have to buy from the secondary market.

To order in the USA ( i don't know for other countries ) but in France it' cost a lot. exemple : if you buy in France the jasmine doll 84 euros. Some french pre ordered their doll and got them , but with the shipping cost, the customs cost... The same doll cost them 218 euros! not everybody can afford it. You live in UK, so you are lucky to have many store to sell the limited edition doll.

In France, only 1 store sell them: the Paris champs elysées. One store for an entire country. And many countrieS didn't have a single store who sell the limited edition stuff.

the UK are lucky ,the rest of the Europe.... Not so much.

You are missing my point though, yes it might be expensive but at least its an option. In the US you can only order from the US store.

I know I am lucky living in the UK but at the end of the day we are all lucky because we have a chance, like I said above if you live in Canada, Australia other places mentioned above you have no chance. And by the way I only have one store that sell LE dolls so I have to buy online as its still an hour or so away.

So yes we are all lucky! It might be stressful but it could be more stressful by not even having the option in the first place.

I have a friend in japan, she orders at ds.com her LE, and guess what , it cost her less than a french to order an LE in the DS com. I think australia can order in the ds.com. They can just as the europeen. They pay more, just like us. sometimes even less. Because Europe customs are not kind ( at least not in my country , i know it's different from all country, some country like japan, doesn't even have custom when they order from the USA.

you say canadian australian and canadian can't order from the DS COM . this is not true. It cost more that's all. They have option too.

and why and American will want to order their LE in the Europe ds online? With a lot less stock, a lot less chance to get the doll?

and a lot of countries that can't order from the DS.COM, can order to the disney.co.uk.

Yes the russian have no luck... it seems they can't order anywhere.

Yes our customs are not very kind indeed, this is the reason I'd never order from the US store but I know some people have on here before. What ever works for you I suppose.

I'm not 100% sure how it all works but a lot depends on the billing address from what fellow collectors have said on here.

Anyway the bottom line is we are all lucky we have the chance to order. I'd like us to get to a stage where we are able to have pre orders (I know they are trying this out with the Heros & villains but not til the last doll release) and possibly the raffle system. Do you think the raffle system would work in France?

Easier in Europe !!!
4500 Jasmine in USA, 500 Jasmine in Europe. It'll be sold out in 5 minutes on line.
May be 20 Jasmine on Champs Elysees Disney Store and almost 60 people in the queue to have this doll !!!
And by the way, only one Disney store sells the limited and designer dolls in France.
May be easier in UK but not in the other european countries.

For example in march 2015 for the Frozen release :
The queue begins at 10 AM on monday for the tuesday release (Champs Elysees disney Store) ! 24 hours queuing for dolls !

Since march 2014 every release in France is dollmageddon ! French Disney Store is unstable and can not stand the crowds. So more and more collectors come to the only store in the country. Some come from Belgium, Italy, Spain or Deutchland. So no, it's esay for no one.
For the Frozen Fever release on november 3rd, you 'll have alsmost 90 people for may be 40 dolls !

no a raffle system won't work in France, because we have only one store, and we don't have a second chance to order the next day online. Since as you know, store release and online release are the same day. So if in the US, you don't win the raffle , next day, you have a second chance to order online. We will not. Unless they change the whole system and we know they won't do that. They already are unable to just release online a limited items without an European webstore crashing. In a sense we have a raffle.

Next thuesday, which european webstore will crash? Germany? Uk, France, Italy? Etc i'm sure they do a raffle right now. Answer next thuesday.

5mins is actually optmistic for Jasmine. Less than a minute more likely to the disneywebstore site that won't crash of course.

And yes at the Paris store champs elysées, the release is more like a " survivors " lol episode than anything else.

So there are 6000 dolls if the 12" sets, right?
We europeans only get 1000. About 150-200 dolls are avaivable in store in the UK or France or Spain. Meaning that only 800 dolls are avaivable online. States like Germany, Austria, Switzerland, etc do not have a local disneystore. So if the online store Crashs - and trust me it Crash EVERY SINGLE TIME SINCE THE VERY FIRST FROZEN DOLLS WERE RELEASED- then we are screwed! The German and danush store Crashs everytime, white the UK and Francesco dorsn't. Mean Ing they can buy All the dolls and we in Germany, Denmark, Switzerland and Austrui get none. Which is not fair at all.
As for Jasmine. There are only 500 dolls in europe. MeanIng 200 for local stores. And 300 online. You can imagine that there are more than 500 collectors Who want to buy her.
Furthermore on the Day of the Snow & Hag Release France and the UK were able to buy the Set 25min before 8am !!! And we others were not. How on earth is that fair?!
And you can not Order via UK or France if you life in Germany. It is not allowed > :(
I think it would be fair if europe get 1500 12" dolls of each Set and 1000 dolls of each 17" release. Not just 1000 12" and 500 17" dolls :/

That's not right. All you need is some mail forwarding company's service. But it's not easy and not cheap. For example: Jasmine 17" LE from disneystore.com will cost 181,19$(doll+shipping to Russaia,Moscow) and she from disneystore.de will cost 119,29€(doll+shipping to Russaia,Moscow).
Just for fun:

I think the raffle system would work better if they were released online the day after. Actually on that topic I can't remember it being like that last time and it's really daft having the release instore and online the same day. I wish it was instore first then online the next. For me it's not worth risking going to store an my chances are slim so online battle it will be.

I think one of the biggest issues is the inconsistency of number of dolls we get. I agree 500 is such a low number for the whole of Europe. I think now doll collecting has become more popular the numbers should be reviewed.

Ive said this a lot already but November 3rd is not going to be a pleasant morning. What time do people start queuing at the French store?

The french website crashed too. It happened in march. Crashed during before the selling started until 20 mins later. Everything was sold out, during the crash.

I think the total for store is more closer to 100 max 125 than 200. Our stock goes less this year in Paris.

Honestly, both areas have their issues.

I live in the US, but I get that DS shipping is a problem in Europe and customs costs are a pain in the backside. I have thought about ordering other items I collect online from UK stores, and it costs $20 just to ship a small package here, not to mention the exchange rates. And I went to the Harrods store in London one time while I was visiting, and it is about half the size of the average American Disney Store. The cashiers told me it is absolutely crazy in there for LE releases and especially if they are selling store exclusives. I have heard from European collectors here and elsewhere about the lack of stores in their respective countries and the ridiculous shipping fees if they want to buy from another store's website. So yes, that aspect of how these LE dolls are sold should be acknowledged by Disney and hopefully addressed in the near future.

HOWEVER, ordering from the US is not all sunshine and roses. I live in a part of the country where the closest Disney Store is roughly four hours away, so for these kinds of releases ordering online is my only option. And as anyone who orders off the US site knows, the website is completely unpredictable at 12 AM PST. Sometimes items hit the web instantly and it's a smooth ordering process. Other times items get kicked out of bags, get marked "sold out" before they ever even appear, or even worse the whole site shuts down for a half hour before anyone is able to get an order through. And then if we do manage to order what we want, shipments can arrive damaged, go to the wrong address, not ship at all, et cetera et cetera.

I believe that the US gets far more of the edition sizes of LE products because most other countries can order off our website (whereas we cannot order off the UK site or any others I know of), and of course because Disney is still an American-based company and their primary fanbase still seems to be the United States. I personally think they way they (usually) divide up the numbers of LE dolls is fair, especially since usually I hear European collectors are still able to get a lot of the LE merchandise off their own countries' websites and stores before they sell out. And if not, at least Europe has the option of trying the US website or other countries-shipping will be more expensive that way, but at least you aren't limited to ordering off eBay and hope the person will actually send you the product. Or worse, buy from a FaceBook page.

And there are countries that have it much, much harder than both Europe and the US. Countries full of Disney fans like Canada and Australia don't even have their own websites (Australia doesn't even have one Disney Store) and they either have to pay even more expensive shipping fees or rely on someone from another country to ship items to them. And I can only imagine what it's like in South America, Africa, or Asia (unless you live in Japan).

Bottom Line: We ALL have to get up early and either go to the stores or wait for links. We ALL have to worry that the doll will sell out before we can buy it. Let's stop raising a pointless issue just for argument's sake and focus on helping one another with links and having friendly discussion about the dolls, please. As I understand it, that's what this thread is supposed to be about. :)

wow! I am not going to complain ever again. I was complaining that my Disney store is not at walking distance. I have one 15 min drive at the west Covina mall, one 20 min at the Montclair mall and another one 25 min at the Brea mall. California has many

Well said.

How soon before opening do you guys arrive at the stores on release day? I'm going to my first one and want to be sure I get Aladdin and Jafar

I usually head to my store anywhere between a half-hour to an hour before opening. For me, though, it depends on a number of factors. Mall security and when they'll let people cue up and the popularity of the LE item are the top two factors on the list, though.

Exactly. Thanks for putting that so well.

Preach! Some have worse scenarios than others, but EVERYONE has some struggles when it comes to collecting Disney dolls.

But back on topic, does anyone think its a bad idea to go for Aladdin on release day instead of Jafar? I can only get one and I want them both, but I wan't Aladdin more. Jafar is a popular villain, and his low LE number makes me think he will sell out fast, but I can't see him going for much above retail on the secondary market. I don't think Aladdin will either, but I am just more excited for him.

My mall opens up at 5 am for mall walkers, think they give me any trouble if I queue up an hour before the store opens?

It'll probably depend on how strict their security is. The security folks at my mall have been cracking down a lot lately, partly due to the construction that's going on in the same area that the DS is located and partly because of the numbers of folks that can show up for certain dolls (which happened for the Designer Belle and Beast, Ariel and Eric, Cinderella and Charming, Aurora and Phillip, and the 17" Aurora, Maleficent, and Phillip). You could always call and check before the release what time they're gonna start allowing people to line up.

Question for all the Toronto residents in this forum: how early do you guys typically start lining up? I've already preorderd Jasmine but I really want Aladdin to go with her. Since I know male LE dolls aren't as popular and others only interested in Jasmine would have already preordered, I'm not sure what the crowd will be like. I COULD be at my local DS at 6am but that particular day is already going to be aa very long day for me so I'd really enjoy the extra sleep if I can manage it. So my question is: how early should I plan to arrive at my local DS to guarantee getting an Aladdin doll? ^^; For the record, my local store is at Toronto Eaton Centre. Any insight on this would be very much appreciated. :D

Sooooooo many dolls the year! I just hope the site will survive on 3rd November especially with all the tsum tsum coming out. I'd hate to be a tsum tsum and doll collector on that day, it must be pretty stressful. Throw pins in the mix too and that's an early grave.

That's the day I'm both looking forward to and dreading at the same time. I want FF Elsa 17" and the Olaf carrying case of Tsum Tsums and I'm terrified that the site is gonna crash and I won't be able to get them there. I'm tired of having to go to eBay and pay extra, not to mention the stress of waiting for them to arrive. I don't trust UPS or USPS cause I've gotten one too many damaged items. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that it all just works, lol.

I just realized that only 3 weeks (and a few days) away till FF dolls! I'm not too worried about it being crowded with the Tsum Tsum release though. At my local Disney store, the inside out Tsum tsums were still there in the evening at about 5, so I'm not so worried about that. But the only thing I'm worried about is that people will just go to buy the dolls just because they're from Frozen. That's the only problem for me, but I'm going to the store at 8, so I should be fine. Are there other doll collectors in Fresno California?
