DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion
The best thing would be for Disney to increase the edition size. It's a win for the collectors (higher chance to get it) and a win for Disney (more product sold is more money for them) and a lose for the scalpers (collectors already have their dolls). I don't know why Disney hasn't done that already.

As far as this forum goes, I have no say in it, but it might be better not to have everything fully viewable until after a certain amount or kind of participation. Among the more crazy ideas I had, there could be like a difficult Disney trivia quiz people could take, at least that would make scalpers have to jump through a few more hoops and bone up on their Disney facts

But my thought is that things work better (and are more fun) when there is sense of community. In general when people cooperate they all do better than if each of them are left to their own devices. In every big community there's going to be some people trying to exploit the efforts of others, but we just have to figure out the best way to keep them on the sidelines while keeping the community strong. Much more easily said than done, of course.

Ooomiigoodness!! The most recent post on all-those-disneydolls.tumblr.com shows a suit jacket that suspiciously looks a lot like a very snazzy version of Hans' first outfit from Frozen!!!!!

Good grief, here we go again. Have any of you even SEEN the classic Hans doll? He has those buttons and those blue flamey things on his jacket. The color has been altered to make the buttons look a bit more metalic, but that is the classic doll.

And that snip is the EXACT shot that was posted here yesterday. It was literally stolen from this thread.

I hope as much of the rest of you that there's a LE Hans doll, please don't get me wrong. I'm just worried with all this fervor that there might be a lot of disappointment on Friday. Until Disney announces it, don't get your hopes up too high.

I'm just going to reiterate: I saw the full picture when RDC "leaked" it. It was the classic doll photoshopped into Anna's box, with Hans' name photoshopped onto it. The background of the box was cheesy and he was TOO SMALL to be a 17" doll. These male dolls are barely visible inside the boxes, and in this picture RDC showed, there was probably an inch or two of space above his head. I'm sure Niels will verify that the picture he's seen in his link is the same fake out.

Maybe a Hans doll IS coming.

But this picture is NOT of the actual doll, that's 100% sure.

Hi, I just recently found out about the limited edition dolls (happened to go to my local disney store and the latest frozen dolls were there-so they are my first ones). I would like to buy a set of the last frozen ones also ( coronation elsa and snow gear anna), but don't know if the prices are over inflated and will come down in a few years, or if they will just go up more? Is it just the current frozen-craziness driving the price up, or is it what the dolls are "worth"? Just wanted some perspective from people who have been collecting dolls for a while since this is new to me. Would it be worthwhile to wait it out a few years?

Ultimately, I would like to have a limited edition frozen set for both my daughters, to give to them when they're older. I think the dolls are beautiful, and it would be nice for them to have them- since frozen was their first major disney/doll loves.

No one can tell the future, but with the Frozen dolls, prices on ALL dolls have been rising. Before, you could get Wedding Rapunzel for $100 shipped, now you can't get it for less than $200 shipped (if that). Merida and Merida/Elinor were barely going for retail + shipping (now they are a lot too). Cinderella was around the $125-150 mark, now it's up.

So, I would say that I think the second set of Frozen dolls will also go up. Not as high as the first set, though.

LMAO, it's been a never-ending loop of hysteria since yesterday. I think the rumor trolls have succeeded in their mission to create widespread doll-related panic.

I agree that it looks so much like the classic Hans. And if he has molded hair too, I am probably not going to be too impressed. The thing that makes it more likely for me (besides Niels saying that (s)he saw it on the UK site) is that the Cinderella dolls seem so similar to the Film Collection one that it's had me waffling back and forth whether I want (the blue) one or not. Instead of addressing increased demand with increased edition sizes, Disney may be trying to benefit from the hype by starting to slack off on the detail of LE dolls instead. If it's true and continues their only value would be artificial scarcity and not because they are breathtaking dolls anymore. And then I imagine most people will lose interest in collecting them, so very short sighted of Disney if so!

I'm waffling on (possibly non-existent) Hans. I do think a Hans would round out my Frozen collection but he should not stand out as the "odd man out" by just looking like a bigger version of his Classic doll. Compared to Kristoff he would look disappointing. I am not a completest and the dolls take up a lot of room, and not to mention the price, even at retail. I really hope Disney keeps making the LE dolls beautiful and special. I dream of a rooted hair Hans in his white suit.

ROFL, I say congrats to them!! I think collectors want dolls so bad they'll believe anything. LE Tadashi and Baymax? Oh lord, why am I still reading this thread?

Okay, that sounds harsh, and I'm sorry if anyone takes anything I'm saying personally. I guess I have to adjust to the new level of fandom these dolls have generated. I've been there, wanting the impossible, like a prince doll. And then Eric happened, so anything's possible.

I don't think I've ever seen this much hysteria over rumors - not even during the original dollmageddon.

Supposed cast member submitted to one of the tumblr pages that they got their shipment and that there is indeed no Hans but apparently a Lady Tremaine. That seems infinitely more plausible. If we want to really get technical why would they release Hans on a Cinderella release day when it would make more sense for a surprise Prince Charming?

I anxiously await the day we do get a Hans doll, but I'm willing to bet my Coronation Anna that it's not this Friday :P

The photo on the tumblr page is Niels's photo. They erased most of the watermark but you can see the "N" on the buttons.

Apparently, on Friday, we're getting not only the two confirmed Cinderella dolls, but also surprise releases of Hans, the Tadashi and Baymax set, an Le Fairy Godmother, LE Prince Charming, and an Le Lady Tremaine. Oh, and also they're re-releasing the original Snow White and the original Frozen set for everyone who missed out, because hey, why not?

Seriously, I think Hans could be a possibility to coincide with the Frozen Fever release, but I think it is best to treat even the most plausible of rumors with a healthy amount of skepticism and not get too excited until its been confirmed.:) There have been numerous requests for links already and the doll is not even a sure thing.

Yeah, this makes a lot more sense that there'll be a surprise Lady Tremaine or Prince Charming/Kit, but a surprise Hans... sorry, while I still think it's possible for Disney to produce an LE Hans, I don't see it happening for this release. Maybe with the next Frozen set, but not with a Cinderella set. I could be wrong, of course, but we'll just have to wait and see. But at this point, with all the hysteria, people may end up being disappointed anyway, regardless of what Disney ends up doing.

As for avoiding scalpers, that maybe what Disney's trying to do by not unveiling any surprise dolls until the day of. In this way, people only put aside so much money for the dolls, therefore not having enough money for the surprise LE's. But most importantly, it stops the pre-sale on the secondary markets. People can't plan to sell what they don't know exists.

It's all getting a bit ott and crazy in here.

Tbh I can't wait for Friday to be over so this thread can go back to normal. It's driving me mad reading some of the crazy posts.

That's exactly how I feel. Sure, be prepared, but calm down a little, lol. I feel bad for the people who admitted they were running around their room screaming with excitement. Um, hello, this is the internet, people. The land of Anyone Can Say Anything.

I think the thing that's legitimately bugging me is how people believe that pic of Hans is the actual doll. Maybe it's because I've seen the link myself (thanks to RDC) and have seen the pic in full size, whereas most people here only saw that snip yesterday. Anyone who's seen it should know better. Even to think it's a test doll or whatever is silly. The test doll would at least be the right size. Then again, we believe what we want, right?

I'm really excited for the fairy godmother, Tremaine, and Charming dolls, though! I bet they'll be based on the animation characters, too! I wonder if they'll come in a box set, like the deluxe gift sets, but in LE form!!! I heard they're going to start doing those as Harrods exclusives from now on.

Here I was thinking it was going to be a relatively easygoing release on Friday for the Blue Cinderella doll ... now I fear everyone and their neighbor and their mother and their uncle and all their cousins-twice-removed are going to be on the DS website and standing in line at the store on Friday for a surprise Frozen doll that might not even exist.

:sigh:

* Well played, rumor trolls; well played.

So you're going for her? I'm still undecided, so I probably won't.

HOWEVER! A friend did pick up an extra Kristoff to ship to me from another province, so I got the only one I was slightly intrigued by (and never saw up close in the store since he was sold out).

Did the recent Frozen dolls grow on you yet? I can't get past the shiny skin and tinsel, but I think otherwise I would've wanted them.

Omg, I totally agree!! I may be a noob, but I already LOVE collecting the 17' LEs and LOVE this fan base and want to protect the integrity of collecting from these scalpers!!!!! I bought my Merida doll a month ago and decided I WILL NOT pay over $300 for a doll again!!!! And to think that wedding Cindy is ALREADY on pre-sale for more than a grand!?!?!? Craaaaazy!!
I feel like this as well I am a noob here as well but I Love collecting these dolls already I also love the community here people, are so friendly and helpful I won't pY over $300 for a doll either this can be an expensive hobby but I love it! I already collect hot toys Marvel 12" figures( I a a nerdy guy what can i say lol)and those are pretty expensive as well. I do plan on trying to get blue gown Cindy on FridAy I do have a question though. Will the link for her be posted somewhere in this thread or in the Cinderella movie merch thread? This will be my first LE online attempt. Thanks for the help

I agree with you about the market being all weird... Like, for example, I want purple Rapunzel SO bad, but right now on eBay I saw her for around 900, right after that I saw someone wanting 1800. Wth!!! What's up with the huge price dif???? Does eBay even reflect the actual value of the LEs? I've heard that real collectors don't even buy there , but then one girl on Tumblr said she only trusts sellers on the bay. Sooooo....??????

In my experience eBay is generally the best place to go if you want to make sure a doll is in mint condition and by far the safest place online period. I hate to sound pessimistic, but FB pages and other group sites (though thankfully I've never it heard it happen on this forum before) are not great as far as buyer/seller safety, especially when dolls are traded and no actual money is in the mix. With eBay at least most sellers provide insurance, negative feedback is available if they had issues with past transactions, and if nothing else there is a money back guarantee if a doll comes not as described or doesn't come at all. And with eBay of course there are lots of different listings for the same doll, so there are plenty of options as far as which sellers to buy from and you can always try to negotiate since there is usually a lot of competition (unless you're looking for Alice. If you are, may the Force be with you). :)

The one problem I personally have with eBay is that in the one year I've visited frequently I've never seen any price for any LE doll I'd consider a deal; those are usually on the group pages. Sellers usually list around the "going rate" for each specific doll, though there always cute scalpers who like to advertise less popular dolls in the thousands; March Elsa and Anna are available for $2,000 in one listing! It sounds like the person you described selling Rapunzel for $1,800 is in the same boat, though granted she's a little more popular. I generally see her for $750-900 on the site, so you can definitely get her for less than that.

The really important thing to do when you're doll shopping though is to ask the price you want to pay first, and never start with the "going rate." Just looking at the conversations on the forum it seems a lot of collectors are divided on whether scalping is something they're okay with, but the truth is even with the most popular dolls Cinderella stories exist and people are willing to part with dolls "valued" in the thousands for a couple hundred. That's why I think no matter where one stands on the scalping subject, he/she still shouldn't resort to paying the higher eBay prices, especially if they've only just started looking. And just ignore the naysayers who tell you such thinking is unrealistic; after all, "If you keep on believing The dream that you wish will come true." :)

Yeah, I saw the movie last week and really liked it, so I decided to get her. After seeing the film, all the glitter and shininess made more sense. (Still not getting the Wedding Doll at $500, unless there is something absolutely remarkable in the online description that completely changes my mind, but that is doubtful.)

Congrats on the Kristoff! I'm still so-so on Anna and Elsa -- I can't get past the shiny skin and tinsel either! The outfits look better in person than the photos and have some nice details, but I would have liked these dolls so much more if they hadn't ruined them with the tinsel, especially. I could almost live with the shiny skin but that tinsel is horrendous, in my opinion. I want to pull it out! LOL

The tinsel didn't bother me on Rapunzel or even Sleeping Beauty so much, but I think because Anna's hair is in braids and Elsa's is in an updo and not down and flowing like the other two dolls-- the tinsel just stands out in all the wrong ways.

The RDC one that was posted months ago was a classic Hans doll in a fake 17" box. They also had a dark silhouette post which was also the classic dolls on a Frozen background. Both were a mockup on what it could have looked like. I wouldn't put it past Disney to release a Hans doll or a Lady Tremaine on Friday, but I'd rather wait until we get official info. No point in getting our panties in a bunch over rumors.
