DSF Ironman Update

The major piece of information missing here is how they intend to form the lines at the time permitted. In my view, the only problem with the beloved tales is that they did not give advance warning on how they were handling it and as a result, people lined up days early. If Disney would have told everyone in advance their plans, it would have removed most of the tension from that release.

you hit it on the nail! but honestly i didnt think this release would get that much attention anyhow as the only reason the last release was crazy (Avengers) was cause there were tons of people leaving the premier and getting in line for pins too lol this time they spaced it correctly so it should be fine...

Agreed ^^^^^ I am now kinda stumped for a lack of a better word) on what time I should arrive at DSF either way. I thought about it today and there's no way I can go to the 1pm distribution time (I'll be working and I can't take anymore time off). And I don't think I'll make it to DSF for the 7pm distribution time (I get off work at 6pm on fridays in Anaheim near DLR, so w/ traffic don't think that is doable :/), so I have no choice but to shoot for the 7am time... which prolly is everyone's idea too  So now I'm thinking to myself... "what time do I have to show up to be in the first 100?" Since dsf hasn't quite clarified when they'll allow times to line up (at least to my knowledge they haven't...) so who knows when ppl will start lining up or if they'll enforce shooing ppl away, plus the theatre is doing showings for Iron Man 3 (which means no lining up in the alley). Ugh my head >___< LOL

Well... I'm just going to lower my expectations and hope that I can just get the marquee. If I somehow manage to score 1 full set that'll just be bonus XD

But I must say this is a pretty decent step in the right direction (IMO... if u disagree please don't kill me ::ducks from flying objects:: ) now if DSF can just raise edition sizes on popular releases (or heck all of them at this point bc so many newer traders have entered the hobby) we'd all be golden. I totally agree that this release could have been LE 1000 (or 750 even) and alot of other issues would be resolved. We'll have to stayed tuned to see what happens in the long run I suppose...

I agree on the Lottery thing. I wish it could be randomized online, with a "if you're not present to pick up your voucher (if you are one of the lucky 150 or 300 lottery winners) with an ID, then you forfeit your voucher".

I think the lottery idea would solve it all. It's completely random and you can get in line prior to the start of the event instead of staying there all night.

I agree. The way I see it, there's only 2 ways to release pins that wouldn't result in early birds trying to line up (despite what the official times for lining up are or wishes of the store might be).

One is a RSP style lottery system, like you guys have said.

The second is to just not announce the pins or the release times, and let word of mouth get out. It would stagger the arrivals enough that you wouldn't have line issues. It would suck for some people who missed out, but the people who can't afford (time, resources, or money) to camp out would get back into the game.

There might not be a perfect way to release pins, but at least these methods get rid of the hassles and liability issues associated with having people camp out overnight.

Kevin PTD was a perfect preview of how bad surprise releases are. One per person didn't help really. All it was were locals calling friends to go get the pins. They were completely spoken for within 90 minutes. I wonder how many speeding tickets should have been handed out that day?

Also, Avengers last year was not a hectic release. If your just a Marvel collector and haven't been to other pin releases, you have no idea what your about to experience. Last year, anyone that came all the way up to around 8am got the pins. That was one of the few release in the last year that wasn't really that bad compared to most.

DSF is apparently trying to give a few of non-pin people hope with the 351-500 slots apparently first come first serve Saturday morning. Perhaps we're getting an Le700 surprise pin? Haha. Odd number. After seeing the movie, they are seriously missing some key pins, so hopefully our surprise pin is rad and not just a Mother's Day pin. We didn't get an Avengers surprise pin, but we always get them for events so?? Maybe an Iron man 1/2 marquee??

Someone on the DSF Facebook thread mentioned that at WDW you're not allowed to line up early or you'll get kicked off the property by security. I wonder if that would work at DSF... Is the only entrance to the line-up area at DSF through the alley or is it through Hollywood Blvd? With such a tiny space to line up in, it would seem hard to regulate where people will wait before the line opens.

It is a LE500, but they are only handing out 300 wristbands (that's what I thought I read a few days ago)

It seems they are handing out 350 wristbands... So the first 50 of the 'standby line' for all pins other than the marquee will already be accounted for. Not sure how they will regulate the line for the remaining 150 marquees...

DSF does prevent people from lining up on their property (basically just the alley next to the building, and possibly the back alley, I'm not sure who claims ownership of that)... Problem is they don't own the parking lots around it or the public streets... Even if the parking lots refused to allow people to stay over night, they can just line up on the sidewalk on the street behind the DSF (this is where they started lining up for the BT release until the parking lot allowed them in there)... It would take LAPD to make them leave at that point.

Free evil plan:

Begin wristband distribution the Wednesday before a release. Walk up. Get a wristband. Get your ice cream. Go home.
Wristbands are given out until 9:00 or 10:00 pm the day before the release.
Random selection of numbers, on wristbands distributed, and posted to their Facebook by midnight.
Winners line up the next morning in the order their number appears on the Facebook selection list.
Buy pins. Get your ice cream. Go home.

No lines to try and be first. No drama. No worries other than fretting over getting selected.

But since everyone seems to enjoy the lines, the lottery is always shot down as being unfair. When there are only 300 pins, someone is going home unhappy. But with a lottery, no one is worrying about how many days they have to spend in line, since the line and being first wont matter anymore.

Too many people worried about the value of a low LE to consider raising it, so just go with the lottery so everyone can stop whining about lines and whether or not it is official or how no one isn't enforcing or following unenforcable rules.

Guess I should just get on board with the idea that nothing is going to change and shut up. :)

Honestly I've come to the conclusion DSF will never do an online lottery because in their minds the more people that come the better they are doing. Even if their asinine ways infuriate everyone and their most loyal of customers.
