DSF PTD new rule

DSF PTD new rule
Just slow down with buying so many. I really don't get why people are trying burn out this hobby. There is no need to spend all of your time and gas and money trying to buy all of these and make everyone panic and cause hysteria. We went through this with the PODMs, Beloved Tales, and now all DSF pins? It's really SAD!
 

+1. Of course people will always bring in a child, friend, or hobo to help them get more, but it would certainly be more difficult. And sadly, not everyone will be helped always who doesn't live around DSF, but that's the luck of the draw :/ No matter what, this is going to suck, but I think this is the most logical situation.
 
The only reasonable options from a business standpoint is to increase edition size or increase the price. Both create more $$$ for DSF. Limiting 1 per person costs more $$$ per pin (now 300 transactions versus 150-200, more ice cream used, more credit card transaction fees). They should love the fact that the pin changes every 24hours. They should want it to sell out as quickly as possible. Limiting 1 per person per day helps DSF in no way, unless they are too lazy to make more pins. They really need someone there with some type of business sense (in economics or marketing).

What business have you ever heard of that tries to slow down the sales of a product? Can you imagine that conversation? Look guys, we are selling out of the ptds pins too fast to keep up... what can we do to slow down the sales? Bring out the magic 8 ball and see what we should do.

Its not like they have a lack of characters to draw from. They haven't even touched on Marvel (and seem to be the only place that can sell Marvel pins). They've got the buzz. They should be full steam ahead. Increase the price or increase the edition size. Simple.

Maybe they just switched it to one per person because this is the last one they have in stock and they need it to last until more come in? I honestly can't imagine why they would want to slow down on sales. And yes, it's not like they are out of characters to design pins off of. It sucks for people who are trying to collect the PTD series. Now most people will only be able to get one for their collection and no extra to help trade for others in the series. And it'll definitely be harder to help out the non SoCal people.
 
How do we know it's a new "rule" and from here on out, PTDs will only be 1 per person? What if this only applies to this pin for this weekend?

I'm thinking maybe they're running low on ice cream and need to stretch out their supply until they get more. Can you imagine telling a tourist who just wants ice cream: "We're sorry, Disney, the worlds largest entertainment company in the world, ran out of ice cream." That would be dumb.

We're so wrapped up in our pin universe that we don't see other business factors that required a decision like this to be made.

Also, wouldn't it be nicer to have a new pin weekly or something, instead of every single day ... I like an ice cream just as much as the other, lol, but having to go there every day / every 2 days and stuff up with ice cream, is just too much calories, haha
 

Seriously, this and what BroncoBilly said. It's such a no-brainer to just up the LE and continue to allow people to buy two at a time. I work in the collectibles industry and I can't imagine what the bent-*** logic is behind the new change. Yes, you don't want to kill the attraction of a low LE, but if you bump it to 400 and the pins still sell at the same rate, you're golden. If you bump it to 400 and sales suffer, go back to an edition of 300. But if stuff's flying off the shelves, why on earth would you want to slow that process, in a way that slashes your profits? (Due to the requirement of more ice cream.)

The only thing I can think is that there are approvals issues with upping LE sizes and getting the okay on new pin designs. It's possible whoever the DSF needs a thumbs-up from is slow on the trigger and this is just a stop-gap measure. But yeah. If that's not the case, I don't understand how this could possibly make sense.

This is BS...They make more profit with no ice cream...this is because they again misunderstood the popularity of PTDs. They are running low again and making the ones they still have last till their next shipment from china.

I wish they would have made it one per person a few days ago so I would have at least had a chance to get a Si and Am PTD which I have been waiting years for, but I have a job and while at that job yesterday, the one I have been waiting forever for was released and sold out, so now in order to get one, I'm going to have to pay 3 times the amount for one or am offered very unfair trades for it. It's great when I look on Ebay for one since nobody here is willing to help anyone out and I see it going for 3 times the amount and that person has 3-4 to sell. I'll probably end up buying one since it's the only way for me to get one since I have a job and can't run down there at anytime like the greedy profiteers. DSF probably changed it to one per person since there are no new pin releases for a few weeks and they are running out of these since people are making a living off hanging out there and re-selling them, now lets see if DSF actually enforces its own rule since they never do with pin releases.
 
wow, so many different thoughts and ideas here. I want you all to know how very happy I am that this has not turned into a drama-rama verbal attack thread.

My personal thoughts on the whole situation...

This is the 20th PTD pin since the little green man released in May.... even at 1 per person, this PTD will be gone within a few days and we all know it. 20 of these have sold out in a tiny bit over 1 month. None of us, and certainly not DSF staff, could have predicted that!!! I am betting this Sword in the Stone pin is the last one they have in stock. And I am betting they expected this 20 pin series to last into July.

The process of getting more pins for the PTD's is not as simple as many of you seem to think. They need to get approval and permission for the characters they want to use, then get approval for the actual designs, then get them made and shipped to the location. It took almost 2 months for them the get PTD's back in stock. Expect the same with the next set.

Now because of current trends, if DSF is smart, and gets the approval, they will increase the edition size to 500, allow 2 SUNDAES per guest. They will also figure on 3 PTD's turn over per week if they do le500. 4-5 per week if they keep it le300. Regardless of edition size, if its a highly sought after character, it will sell out in a day or less. So they should increase the order series to 25-30 at a time.

So as much as I hate to say it, they should do some fab 5 and other less sought after characters for the next series of releases. They could easily increase price without a reduction in demand too.
 
It is a bummer they changed it to one per person because now we can't use the 2nd to trade for a ptd we don't have. There are a lot of people who only trade ptd for ptd, so now this will make it more difficult seeing as how the one you buy goes straight into your collection.
 
I think it is a good thought to try to make them last longer, but it would be nicer if they increased the edition size AND made it 2 per person, that way others could pick pins up for their friends and themselves.
 
If it is 1 per person, per day, does that mean if the pin changes during the day you can't go back for the different one? I suppose they'd want to encourage people to come back the next day to try and get the new one but I could see it being frustrating for regulars or PTD collectors to have to keep going back and forth, and not even be able to get one to trade.

I think I agree with raising the LE to 500, they would still sell so Disney wouldn't lose out, and more of us would get them. But surely a side effect of this idea that we haven't mentioned is that the current LE 300s would go up in value because they would be seen as harder to get than the new LE 500s would be? Making the new ones more readily available could potentially make the older ones even harder to get hold of...

One last question; how do they police it? If you go in at 9am and buy your PTD, ice cream and all, and then went back in at 2pm to get another ice cream, would they know you had already bought a pin? Do they rely on staff recognising you, or do they write your name on a list or something? I just don't understand how they can actually stop you going back later on in the day. I assume they must have some system but I can't imagine what it is. Can anyone enlighten me?

I suppose I don't mind the new rule if it makes them last longer, but if it means it will be harder for me to get hold of characters that I like then I won't be impressed! It's hard enough not being in the US as it is. At least I collect less popular films, if I were a Tangled or Up collector I don't think I'd ever have a chance!

I really wish people wouldn't hype pins so much. If we didn't create all this hysteria, then pay the massive markups on Evilbay afterward no one would line up for days on end in an alley for pins and we could ALL get them at a decent price and they wouldn't sell out in 2 minutes.
 
if you really want more than one pin, then go back later in the day and get another. maybe even go back after a shift change so no one recognizes you, if you're really that paranoid. sure, they can enforce that no one buys more than one at a time, but you could just bring a friend or come back later. it's dumb to change the rules when there's always ways to cheat the system.​

The next bright idea they are considering are blind bags..... Meh 900 bags would still sell at the same rate this wouldn't help anything....
 
Maybe they are running out of ice cream. Seriously when did PTD's get so popular that they are running out of character pins in a day or two? Now when there is a popular character, friends won't be able to get one for others.
