It's a phrase I picked up a few years ago and love to use it when questioned about things I like or collect.

Lately though I have been wondering...WHY do you collect the themes you collect? Is it because you had a great experience at the parks? If you loved a movie as a kid, why? What is the deeper meaning behind your collections?

Why do you like what you like?

Ohh great idea.
I collect hercules because it was one of my favourite films growing up. I love Greek mythology, the art style used in the movie and the characters are so defined. It's not often Disney films centre around the male and hercules is so awkward xD I also love hades personality and james woods is one of my favourite actors. Anyway I'm going to stop blabbing. I collect stitch because he is so cute. The movies pretty unique and when we went to Disneyland we started picking up stitch pins and merchandise and my mum loves him too, its one of the only common interests we share.

I collect Mulan because I love her as a role model, I love the telling of the story, the characters' personalities, the animation. I love that she's like 'forget the boys, I'm going to save China'. I collect Sword in the Stone because I love Arthurian legend, and because the movie is fun I collect Robin Hood because I've always loved the history and legend of Robin Hood, and I had a crush on him as a kid(yes, the fox). I collect Enchanted because I love the movie! I collect Narnia because I'm a HUGE C.S. Lewis fan. I collect Brave because I'm of Scottish descent, I'm an archer, and a horse rider. I collect Tangled because I have an emotional connection to the movie/its storyline/her character.

Great idea !!!
I collect Tinker bell mainly because she was always my favorite character growing up (so sassy and jealous haha ), and I am starting to collect beauty and the beast because on my first visit to the park, I had a special moment with Belle (I think I was eight or nine) and it has just stuck with me how lovely belle was and now she's my favorite and it's my favorite movie and I'm obsessed with all things BatB

What about you, Train?

Well I collect a few things but my main thing is the Hitchhiking Ghosts from the Mansion. I love them. I especially love Ezra; adore him. That's why I collect him. Apart from the fact I'm in love with Ezra I just love these three characters in general, they're just so cool! From them in the ride to them in the shows and their cameos in House of Mouse, video games and the movie.

I also collect any Phantom Manor pins. I love the ride, it was the first Mansion ride I went on. I'm obsessed with the story and its connections to Frontierland and Thunder Mountain. There's a character named Ezra (the Stationmaster) in this ride too (different character, just looks quite similar to Hitchhiker Ezra), I love this guy too.

And I collect trains 'cause I love trains!

My older collections are simply my favourite characters. Cheshire Cat, Gaston, Scar, Chernabog, Zero, Mufasa, Mrs Jumbo, Ratigan and Shere Khan are all in my top 10 Disney characters. Well, they were. New characters have arrived, so the order and inclusion has changed a bit. I wouldn't stop collecting any of these characters though.

Amongst those new characters are Prince Naveen, Dr Facilier, Charlotte and Louis, all from Princess and the Frog. I didn't want to collect the film as a whole, but I loved all four of those characters! I also love Mother Gothel, so I'm hoping to have a collection of her someday. Too bad I hate the WDI hat pin of her and the Designer pin of her is impossible to get.

The Pastoral Symphony and the Dance of the Hours are my 2nd and 3rd fave parts of Fantasia, after Night on Bald Mountain. The characters in these scenes are completely charming, and Fantasia as a whole is my 2nd fave Disney film, so it made sense to collect my 3 fave scenes from it. I just stick Chernabog with my fave character collections because he is a fave character.

Characters dressed as Other Characters...are just odd. It's just a weird collection that I really enjoy. I like seeing characters not in their usual clothing or setting.

Kingdom Hearts is one of my all time favourite video games series. Nuff said.

Frankenweenie and Wreck-It Ralph are films that I literally can't wait to see, and I know they're going to be amazing! May as well start collecting now that the pins are here or are on their way! As with all my collections though, I only want pins that I like. I'll never be a completist, because every single collection has pins in it that I don't like! I just don't understand the mentality of getting pins you don't like.

That's it! Just basically my favourites of things.

I collect DSF Marquees because I love movies and I have for as long as I could remember. I have 3/4 of all the marquees and I have never seen a movie at the El Capitan theatre which I think is a bit odd.

This is a really good idea for a thread.

I collect classic Disney animals because they give me a sense of nostalgia (my favorite movies growing up were 101 Dalmatians, Bambi, Lady and the Tramp, etc.), and also because they're so cute in pin form! "Figaro" is the character I have the most of, because he was my favorite character as a little girl... mostly because he bore a strong resemblance to my first ever pet, a pampered tuxedo cat named Oreo.

Me & Oreo, circa 1992 or so.

I collect Peter Pan, not because its my favorite Disney movie (that honor goes to Beauty and the Beast), but because I've always loved the original story and the characters. I mean, come on - you can't help but love faeries, mermaids, Lost Boys, Native Americans, pirates, and a ticking crocodile.

Those are my two main collections. The other, smaller themes I have in my collection are there for many varied reasons...

well lets see... do you really want to delve into the mind of psycho pixie?

I collect Horses because I grew up with them.
I collect Thumper because he was my childhood fav character (not my fav anymore but who cares right?)
I collect Pixie hollow because well... long story involving the first tinkerbell movie on repeat for over a month for my daughter.....
I collect Pink Pirates because I found these 2 pink pirate tinker bells from dlrp, and the colection just sort of grew from there.
I collect Hunchback of Notre Dame because it truely is "the poor mans Tangled." Tangled: champagne. HoND: Beer.
I SORTOF collect Bugslife. because my nick name as a child was lady bug, we passed the nickname on to our girls.
I collect Hydra because I am psycho and needed something for no reason. (I have... 1 out of 6.)

I collect sassy sayings Tinker Bell pins for my older daughter It started with the "don't like time outs." one and grew.
I collect Winnie the pooh characters with butterflys because she loves the ride and loves butterflys.

Now, heres the thing, I try not to have any one collection take up more than 1 wide lanyard. With the exception of pixie hollow, I am doing well with that limitation. My Horse and Thumper collections I combined and pared down to just the fav's so that I can put them together on one lanyard.

I collect one pin for each lead female character from every animated disney movie for my youngest daughter. Because I couldn't make up my mind and JUST princesses was not enough.

 As they did with us all!!! I love how nonchalant you are about giving your heart and soul over to pins!!!

Awwwwwwww!!! What an adorable pic!!! We have a cat that looks similar, his name is....Figaro!

I collect the pins I collect because....

Dumbo - I have always loved him. He is such a cutie!! I love the movie and he is just adorable!! I collect almost anything that is related to Dumbo!!
Tangled - Because I love the movie!! I love her character!!! She is just awesome and again, a very cute movie!!
B&B - This may sound weird but I do love the movie (hence, I love ALL the Disney movies) but I have always had a crush on the Prince at the end. The one who turns into the human after being a Beast. I have always had a crush on him since I was young haha. So I have a few pins of Belle and the "Prince" not the Beast (am I weird for this??) lol....

ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!! I LOVE TUXEDO CATS!! I HAVE 4 cats of my own and 3 of them are Tuxedo cats. Their name is Figgy, Beau and Pounce. My other cat is white and gray her name is HoneySuckle. I also have 2 rabbits, 1 dog and 1 fish [-=

Let's see...

Pirates of the Caribbean - It's probably my biggest collection so far (it has its own pin book). I love the ride and I'm obsessed with the movies (yep, all of 'em!)...I mean, come on...Johnny Depp...need I say more? lol

Princess and the Frog - I absolutely adore this movie. Visually it's beautiful (especially waiting 5 years for traditional animation again!), Tiana's focused and passionate about her dream, Naveen is adorable (the smile! the accent!), and Ray's love for Evangeline is one of the most beautiful things about the movie.

Hercules/Hunchback - My two favorite films growing up. They bring back wonderful memories. <3

Brave - Though I love Pixar films, they never quite get me as excited as a DISNEY animated feature, but Brave got me excited for its visuals and fairy tale (guess I'm a sucker for them! ).

Tangled - I followed "Rapunzel" for years and didn't think it would ever be finished because of all the problems it went through. I was also one of those who did not accept the title change until I saw the movie. I was astounded by just how much heart was infused in the movie and made me all emotional (haha...you can check out my itunes review of the soundtrack to find out how emotional I got over "I See the Light"...lol...my sisters still won't let me live it down...).

Wreck It Ralph - Ummm...because it looks AWESOME.

I love your cats' names, Marcia! And I must confess, I'm a bit jealous of your menagerie. I only have one cat right now - A big fat grey thing named Ashi. She's a little bit psychotic, but I love her anyway.

yehhh. i collect all 50 animated feature films BECAUSE i am sick....lol no no no this is how it happened.

I think i am in love with Walt disney. Yes the man. I am also a history buff and disney World is my happy place...so when the sickness "hit" when i got a Peter Pan booster set (my fav movie) and then the aristocats (can you tell i was a kid in the 70s)? I put them with the handful of pins i collected on trips over the years which were mixed. so i decided as a timeline i would get just 4 pins to represent each movie---cute idea right?

YEH, then it turned into, just one of each character in each movie...then i found out PINS MOVED. 3D, had glitter, hinged...well how bout just a few of those....need i say more? By the time i realized i was out of control, it hurt too much to get rid of a movie and break the historical chain! Oh and then i saw these adorable silly symphonies pins and they are part of Walts legacy and i cant leave out Steamboat willie, where it all started---and i may as well add a few gorgeous black and white pins to accompany him.

So thats my sick story. 2500 pins and 27 binders later -- and i seriously love everyone and can almost remember how i got each one...trade/auction/purchase/gift i can give any up.

I've really enjoyed everyone's story of what they collect and why...so here's mine (it's a bit long, since I've been collecting Disney pins forever 12+ years now)...

I'm a collector by nature, have been since I was very young...started with horses. Real and model... Anyway....

When I saw the Mr Toad and Cyril Proudbottm AC (Yes, back in April of 2000), on my birthday no less, I had to have it..it had a horse on it!!! That was it, I was done for...

Here is what I collect...get something to drink, you're going to be here for a little bit....

Horses, have owned them all my life, they are special to me...How can you beat the smell and feel of the big drafters that pull the trolly around Main Street USA??? Oh and lest us not forget the beautiful black Percheron who carries the Headless Horseman thru Disney at MNSSHP!!! I digress... Disney horse pins, A must

Mickey, it all started with a Mouse, right?!! I grew up with WDW, but when I was younger, we never, ever saw Mickey (maybe because we only went in the summer and we just missed the times he was out..not sure. So, when I was older, I saw Mickey on Main Street USA and fell in love. Yep, Mickey pins

Pluto, I'm a dog lover and my daughter picked Pluto as her character when she was young and liked pins. She grew up and I inherited her colletion, along with my own Pluto collection. It's a Pluto pound in my pin books now.

Goofy, a dog, I'm a dog lover, How can you not love someone with that much heart?? Plus, he's one of the Fab 5

The Lion King...need I say more. Beautiful movie, great characters, wonderful music...sigh... Mufasa and Simba, such strong characters, Scar as well. I just can't find flaws with this movie. It's just so special.

Stitch I think Lilo and Stitch would have been a Walt favorite. It's about family, things have changed in our time, so family isn't the same as it was in the 50's. I think Walt would have seen that and approved the movie. And what a character Stitch is!! The movie is great, heartfelt and just plain funny.

Then there are the odds and ends, mainly because I have always lived near WDW. I collect the parks, especially Animal Kingdom (it opened on my birthday and I'm a huge animal lover, like you can't tell), various attractions, Walt and a smattering of other movies, just because I liked them so much...Mulan, Emperor's New Groove, Pirates, the list is endless....

Just about anything that brings back a good memory of Disney.

That's a lot of pins and if you think that's bad...you should see my wants list...LOL

I love that you want 7k pins, but only have 1 listed as owned!!! awesome!

I'm lovin all these posts.
I collect...
-UP because it's my favorite movie ever.... like EVER <3
-Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Pinocchio because those are the 3 Disney movies I loved the most growing up
-Chip and Dale because when I was little I was afraid of all of the costume characters at Disneyland. I got scared and/or cried when any came near me. My mom said that Chip and Dale were the first characters that I took a picture with and didn't cry  I was an odd child.

I love that you want 7k pins, but only have 1 listed as owned!!! awesome!

LOL...Didn't even know I had one listed as owned. I never kept up with that part of it, as I didn't want people going thru my owned list and wanting to trade for something in my collection. Once it hits the black hole collection of my computer room, the pin never, ever returns.

Edit...the one lone pin has now been removed. I no longer own pins, they own me!!!

And here I was being all sneaky sneaky, trying to see if you owned a pin instead of trying to scan through every single page of your wants to see if you needed it. lol

Lets see......
My main collection is The Lion King. I saw that movie the day it opened when I was 11 years old. My brother and I bought a pack of trading cards (I collected a lot of stuff, and I still have my LK card collections) ANYWAYS, we went and saw the movie and my tiny pre-teen mind was blown away! I loved evry thing about the movie! I had never felt that connected to a movie before! The characters, music, style, colours, story, EVERYTHING!!! It came out in July, and we went to DL in September that year, and I was surrounded by LK everywhere! It was the best trip ever, and LK has a very special place in my heart, and always will.
I collect my fave movie PODM pins, not all of them. These movies remind me of my childhood. My mom always bought all the Disney movies, and I watched them all the time. Disney was incredibly important to me. I used to want to be an animator because of Disney It always made me so happy, and still does till this day.
Ive started a small collection of Lady and the Tramp pins. Its my moms fave Disney movie, and it was the first Disney movie she ever saw, so its just as important to her as LK is to me. Also, I LOVE dogs, so this is a great movie to collect pins from
And on the side, I like to collect Goofy pins. Goofy is hilarious!! He always makes me smile! One of my fave movies is A Goofy Movie. Its great. Goofy clearly was and is cool enough to get his own movie, and he is the only Fab 5 character that actually has a son XD
Max is cool too Wish there were more pins of him.

Believe me, my owns list would be 3 times as long, if not 4 times...it would be much easer to go thru my wants!!!! Trust me!
