I fell in love with Wonderland as a child - from the language of the stories to the British setting to the well-known Disney art. I've been collecting Wonderland items most of my life.
I actually avoided collecting pins for several years because I knew once I started they would take over my life. Then one day I gave in and bought some pins... and they took over my life.
This is a really good idea for a thread.
I collect classic Disney animals because they give me a sense of nostalgia (my favorite movies growing up were 101 Dalmatians, Bambi, Lady and the Tramp, etc.), and also because they're so cute in pin form! "Figaro" is the character I have the most of, because he was my favorite character as a little girl... mostly because he bore a strong resemblance to my first ever pet, a pampered tuxedo cat named Oreo.
Me & Oreo, circa 1992 or so.
I collect Peter Pan, not because its my favorite Disney movie (that honor goes to Beauty and the Beast), but because I've always loved the original story and the characters. I mean, come on - you can't help but love faeries, mermaids, Lost Boys, Native Americans, pirates, and a ticking crocodile.
Those are my two main collections. The other, smaller themes I have in my collection are there for many varied reasons...
Many years of living in pinsanity tends to take the edge off.

ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!! I LOVE TUXEDO CATS!! I HAVE 4 cats of my own and 3 of them are Tuxedo cats. Their name is Figgy, Beau and Pounce. My other cat is white and gray her name is HoneySuckle. I also have 2 rabbits, 1 dog and 1 fish [-=
I've really enjoyed everyone's story of what they collect and why...so here's mine (it's a bit long, since I've been collecting Disney pins forever 12+ years now)...
I'm a collector by nature, have been since I was very young...started with horses. Real and model... Anyway....
When I saw the Mr Toad and Cyril Proudbottm AC (Yes, back in April of 2000), on my birthday no less, I had to have it..it had a horse on it!!! That was it, I was done for...
Here is what I collect...get something to drink, you're going to be here for a little bit....
Horses, have owned them all my life, they are special to me...How can you beat the smell and feel of the big drafters that pull the trolly around Main Street USA??? Oh and lest us not forget the beautiful black Percheron who carries the Headless Horseman thru Disney at MNSSHP!!! I digress... Disney horse pins, A must
Mickey, it all started with a Mouse, right?!! I grew up with WDW, but when I was younger, we never, ever saw Mickey (maybe because we only went in the summer and we just missed the times he was out..not sure. So, when I was older, I saw Mickey on Main Street USA and fell in love. Yep, Mickey pins
Pluto, I'm a dog lover and my daughter picked Pluto as her character when she was young and liked pins. She grew up and I inherited her colletion, along with my own Pluto collection. It's a Pluto pound in my pin books now.
Goofy, a dog, I'm a dog lover, How can you not love someone with that much heart?? Plus, he's one of the Fab 5
The Lion King...need I say more. Beautiful movie, great characters, wonderful music...sigh... Mufasa and Simba, such strong characters, Scar as well. I just can't find flaws with this movie. It's just so special.
Stitch I think Lilo and Stitch would have been a Walt favorite. It's about family, things have changed in our time, so family isn't the same as it was in the 50's. I think Walt would have seen that and approved the movie. And what a character Stitch is!! The movie is great, heartfelt and just plain funny.
Then there are the odds and ends, mainly because I have always lived near WDW. I collect the parks, especially Animal Kingdom (it opened on my birthday and I'm a huge animal lover, like you can't tell), various attractions, Walt and a smattering of other movies, just because I liked them so much...Mulan, Emperor's New Groove, Pirates, the list is endless....
Just about anything that brings back a good memory of Disney.
That's a lot of pins and if you think that's bad...you should see my wants list...LOL
I love that you want 7k pins, but only have 1 listed as owned!!! awesome!
LOL...Didn't even know I had one listed as owned. I never kept up with that part of it, as I didn't want people going thru my owned list and wanting to trade for something in my collection. Once it hits the black hole collection of my computer room, the pin never, ever returns.
And here I was being all sneaky sneaky, trying to see if you owned a pin instead of trying to scan through every single page of your wants to see if you needed it. lol
