Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
oooh, that is a good anniversary! At least I hope they do a snow globe.

Ahh! Me too :D
Realistically I think that Disney will finish with the Princesses (and almost certainly make Mulan too!) and then MAYBE move on to the other girls? There are so many possibilities that it would be an oversight on their part not to really given how popular the dolls are!

I agree. With the Designer Fairies I feel Disney is testing the waters to try new things. Personally I'd love a animated version of Alice, especially if she was smaller and a younger sculpt. With a youth sculpt they could also make Wendy and Sofia the First! So many possibilities.

Yeah, but they didn't do anything for Mulan's anniversary and at least she's among the princesses.

That was such a disappointment that they passed on Mulan and I guess that is because she didn't have a diamond edition release. I am hoping that with the growing popularity of these dolls they are going to at least try to complete the princess line so I definitely foresee a Mulan LE doll in the future, maybe in 2017?? Because I think 2016 will be an anniversary year for Pocahontas which would be a perfect opportunity to release a doll for her and 2015 looks like it may be Aladdin's year so we may be getting our first male villain doll hopefully...especially since it is also an expo year.

I would be pretty upset if they left out Mulan and Pocahontas especially since they released designer fairies for a straight to dvd movie whereas Mulan and Pocahontas are classics and even part of the princess line up. Heck they even did Calhoun and China Doll who were supporting roles in Wreck it Ralph and Oz the Great and Powerful respectively.

Exactly! XD
I mean, Tinkerbell was understandable, but even such a relatively unknown character as Zarina became a doll. Same goes for China doll and Calhoun, so it's strange if they keep leaving Mulan out of the whole thing - she's not as popular as the other princesses, but she will sell out, since collectors are surely buying her, her designer doll also sold out fast - or at least so I heard. Of course I'm now excited for the idea of a Mulan and Shang fairytale couple, but my true dream is a 17" Mulan doll.
Pochantas would of course also be nice - I don't like her designer doll, but I'm sure they could make a nice 17" doll.

The other exciting thing is that is they do decide to release Mulan in 2017 that is going to be another expo year so hopefully they will release a whole bunch of Mulan merchandise as well. The potential for these dolls are endless, I cannot wait to see where they will take them next.

Anyone else want Disney to go back to what they used to?

Snow White barely looks anything like she does in the movie, rapunzel too. And Ariel.

I don't like movie accurate dolls as much as the heirloom looking ones. These are meant to be embellished.

Just my opinion. :)

I like the more movie accurate dolls, I think they need to do a more film accurate Snow White 17inch. The one at the moment while gorgeous looks like Snow White ten years after the movie was set.And Alice I think looks like barbie although I don't think Rapunzel looks like barbie.

I don't like the old dolls I even think Rapunzel looks like an expensive barbie.

Damn I have to work on frozen release day :(

That's a fair point but I think that Cinderella looks more Barbie to me than Rapunzel does, personally I prefer the dolls to look more like the actual characters themselves or at least when you put the doll in front of someone that is not too familar with the Disney characters they would be able to at least say "oh wait I know who that is!" because if it gets to the point where you take the doll out and people have to figure out who it is then really it could just be a doll of anyone really. I think that if most people were to see Cinderella if they didnt know it was Cindy and werent familiar with Barbie dolls they would just think it was Barbie.

Either way I think the dolls created so far are pretty amazing not just because of their look but because of their clothing too and I think this is where Rapunzel stands out above a few of the others such as Belle and Cinderella.

By the way I have to say I love your signature! The animations are so cute and I love the Pascal one haha.

I think Mulan and Pocahontas both have the potential to be beautiful, unique and exquisite 17" dolls. I hope Disney comes out with these eventually -- would love to see.

I like that the 17 inc dolls are accurate, that is why the Frozen dolls are favorites. The designer dolls can be more creative, although I would prefer interesting costumes only and have the face and hair be accurate. If the dolls are not recognizable then they do not feel the characters from the Disney movies but some re-imagining of the fairytales for example. While the result could be stunning the way it was with Snow White and Alice I rather have characters that look like the movie versions.

I think Rapunzel looks a lot more like her character than Cinderella does. I really disliked the Cinderella 17" at first because she looked like a Barbie "playing Cinderella" and not like the original. Disney did the doll as the revamped, "modern" version. I was just comparing pictures of the original and modern versions of Cinderella, and to me, the newer rendering just looks cheap compared to the more elegant, softer-looking movie original. (I confess I am a bit biased because I grew up on the original movies only.)

That said, the doll itself has since grown on me a little, and I am actually thinking of buying her now because I have such nostalgic memories of the movie. I still maintain that I would have preferred her original look though.

In my opinion I believe that Snow and Alice actually looks like their characters would if they were animated in today's day and age, because they were cartoons developed about 75 years ago in Snow's case then trying to bring that to life in a doll would be difficult so their reinvented look is a result of modernizing them but keeping that classic look about them. Which is sort of what I wished they had done with Cinderella and what I hope they will do with Aurora since they are part of that classic line of princesses with the older style of animation.

At the end of the day, they are really amazing dolls so if you are able to own one then consider yourself lucky as the detail is just breathtaking.

Amm3 I agree with you about Cinderella, I actually posted a pic somewhere where it compared the LE Cindy with the new artwork from Disney and it definitely looks like they based her look off the new artwork rather than the classic Cinderella. I do think if you can get her that you do as she still is pretty amazing and is definitely worth adding to any LE Princess Doll set.

I like the film accurate dolls and I like the re-imagined dolls like Snow. I just don't like that Cindy looks like the Princess Franchise version of herself. I do like the franchise stuff sometimes, but it is mainly for kids and the products in in are often of lesser quality than collector made items, therefore I think Cindy should have been in the classic style. I do intend to get her one day though, as I think she is quite pretty with the exception of the skin tone & make-up and it is one of my all-time favorites.

I hope Aurora's 17" is a classic re-imagining like Snow or is very film accurate. Also, I noticed that when they make dolls or costumes where the bodice is velvet it ends up looking way too bulky and ruins the line of her dress, which is very slim, and it should probably be satin.

Yeah I think it is easy to pick apart the dolls and be really critical (which we all have a right to do, of course!) but the more I look at the dolls I realize they are all pretty amazing. (It's just that some are a little bit more amazing than others. LOL)

I agree with you about the makeup. That frosty pink lipstick reminds me of a Vegas showgirl from the 70s.

I too wish Cinderella was more like how she was in the movie and wasn't too keen on the doll, but once getting her I was glad I did! Yes she would look better with different makeup etc but her dress is so pretty.Shes worth owning:)

I am not sure whether its related here but I've seen the term "surprise dolls" pop up on this forum. Could that mean a Kida doll just happens to be lurking without us knowing for instance or do they tend to be related to the films released on the given year?

+1

Surely now that they have released a LE doll of a direct to video character (Zarina) that sold out quickly, characters such as Kida can't entirely be out of the question.

I hope they release a 17" Pocahontas next year since it's her 20 year anniversary! They didn't for jasmine though :( so I doubt they will pocahontas :(

According to the Disney Wiki page next year Aladdin is getting the Oct Diamond Edition release
http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Walt_Disney_Diamond_Editions.

As a result we should be seeing a Jasmine LE doll next year. I don't think it will be Pocahontas because like you said Aladdin's 20th anniversary was two years ago and they didn't release a LE doll for that. So I think it more likely that we will get Aladdin related LEs next year.

Personally I think Disney will eventually release Pocahontas and Mulan because they will be the only two princesses that do not have a LE doll if they are omitted. I think it is just a matter of when the dolls will be released rather than a question of if they will be released.
