DSF/DSSH LIVE From DSF...
Omg...definitely better idea to do a surprise release for the up bt but when the tangled bt comes out.... O.O

This is not the main goal. The main goal is for the lineup of 150 people in the alley to not be during business hours because it interferes with the theater operations as well as the operations of the other businesses around.

If this is the case, then it would make sense to possibly hand out wristbands and only allow the line up after business hours. Sort of a win/win for stopping the excessive line up times; yet still allowing a line up, after business hours, for those who wish to do so.

DSF is a business and selling pins is only part of that business and I think pin traders forget that in their haste. The overnight lines and now the 24 hour lines, that could turn into 48 hour lines as people's insanity increases is not good business for DSF, if something goes wrong they will be held responsible and I don't think that they want the attention of a law suit, nor do they want to start collecting fines for illegal use of that alley space. That alley is not zoned for everyone to hang out in let alone sleep in and I understand DSF wanting to find alternative solutions that will benefit their business.

They also gave out directions on who and when they wanted people showing up and still people disregarded those so of course it wasn't a successful event. Some people are just so desperate to get their pins that they don't think about how their actions affect others. I think we could all show DSF some respect, considering how much they put themselves out for all of us and just better follow how they would like these events to run.

Someone mentioned that if we keep up the shenanigans that they might stop producing pins and someone countered that they would never do that, Disney has done that, there are no more Disney Shopping pins (the occasional one here and there does not even compare to what we used to get). And they don't have to stop making pins to fix the problem, but they could do away with the DSF pins and only sell pins at the parks, just more of them to compensate or maybe start selling more pins at cast exclusive places like WDI in an order to prevent these chaotic events. DSF was not designed to handle a couple hundred people hanging out, the parks were. I just think everyone needs to show a little more respect for DSF's policies instead of thinking about themselves.

Amen to that!!

People love to ruin things for everyone though! It's what they do!
I've never been to a DSF release (obviously Orlando is a bit far away), but I was hoping to time it right some day. Hopefully they aren't eliminated by the time I get a chance to heh

That is how the Cubs did it for ticket sales. I don't know if they still do, but they did it in the past. A couple of days before the sale you could go down and get a wrist band which you weren't allowed to remove until the ticket purchase. Then, at like 6 a.m. the day of they would announce on the radio what number they would be starting at and if you were close that was your queue to get down there.

Doesn't help anyone that does live near DSF though. Our bloody carcasses will still be pecked at.

DSF should do a variation of this. Tell people that numbered wristbands will be given out from a certain time (7pm-9pm). After 9:00 take note of how many wristbands are given out, so people will know how many people got wristbands (for this scenario we will say 567 wristbands are given out). Then draw a number, for example 109. Then #109 is the beginning of the line and the line goes in numeric order. After #567 it goes back to #1. Then everyone goes home and comes back to line up in the morning. If you are #108 you would probably choose not to go back because you know how many people will get the opportunity to purchase before you do. Anybody who chooses to line up in the "standby" line will have to wait until all numbers have either been redeemed or a certain time (say 10:00am). But they will be told by staff potentially how many people are ahead of them in line.

This way there is no inherent advantage to show up early and wander the streets or start an "unofficial" line.

This sounds like a great idea, whoever came up with it should write a formal letter to DSF with the suggestion. I used to live down the street from DSF, I daresay closer than probably anyone here, walking distance in fact and I still never felt the need to use that advantage by showing up 2 days early so I think whatever can be done to make things fair to everyone, so no one feels like they need to call out from work just to get a silly pin, I'm all for. Maybe then people who are visiting for a few days will also have the chance to go to a release.

This is the way Dodgers Stadium does it for Opening Day Tickets. No sleep over lines. No mad rush to be first in line. Just show up between 6 am and I think it was 9 am a random number is announced. The line starts at that number.

If wristbands for DSF are handed out for a large release, wristbands #1 - #300 are handed out. Staff picks a random number. Let's say 186.
Wristband #186 is first inline and must go to #300 before #1 can get in line do #185 would be the last in line.

Don't people just show up early to get the wristbands?

Yes. But, apparently, the new objective is to prevent the lines that last hours upon hours during business hours. The idea would be to have people pick up a wristband and leave. They would return after business hours to wait in line overnight, if they so choose, or return an hour or so before the store opens.

I'm new to this forum and to pin collecting. It sounds like everyone lives close to Disney. Im so jealous!!! I live out in SC and wish so badly that I could just run over to Disney on weekends or after work. I love the Soda Fountain pins also. Have fun and just know.....there are folks all over the US who wish they could do the same as you right now.

while I like theidea of random select start of line s described above...
>>devils advocate<<
150 wrist bands is typical of dsf right?
If you showed us right on time and picked wrist band #7, but the random select process made #10 the start, you would be rather upset, because youi showed up on time and now are basically last in line.

I like what they did for brave release, with wristbands and requiring you to stay and keep your place. It worked well, the release went smooth.

so, refuse early line up. start wrist band hand out at like 8pm to keep us nutjobs from hovering. If people run, rush, or push the security can refuse you, if you show up early and have to be told no loitering more than once no wristband. If you cause drama in line after wrist band is recieved, it can be taken away. block the alley if needed before line up starts. Im fact, maybe theyshould say no overnight line at all, get your wristband and leave! wrist band and stamp perhaps to prevent cutting them off and selling to others?

Another question everyone. Since DSF asked everyone to leave and come back at 6AM, why did 80% of the people stay? It looks as though DSF really wanted everyone to go home and not keep a line all night. Wouldn't it have made more sense to do as they asked? If we continue to not listen to them they may not continue to be as gracious as they have been during these pin releases.

They didn't ask people to leave and come back at 6am. They set up canopies for the camp out and when people asked... " Does this mean we can go home?" they didn't give a straight yes.

Oh, okay. Thanks for clearing that up. It sounds like they still don't know what they want to do.

I wish they would just do an online RSP. It is so easy.

It sounds like just want to make sure the alley isn't super packed in case of a need for a emergency exit in the theater. That's why they asked us not to bring out air mattresses and other stuff that takes up space till after closing. I really don't think they find us annoying as everyone else is making it seem here. They told us we were their best customers, gave us ice cream after handing out wristbands, and always just try to make camping out better for everyone involved (them and us) at each release.

They did not ask everyone to leave!! They said you can stay if you want. I like other people drove a long way. I do not live right around the corner to just go home. It made absolutely no sense for me and my family to go home, then turn around and leave in the middle of the night to get back to DSF by 5 am. Everybody who stayed was perfectly welcomed to do so. They simply made it optional to stay this time instead of mandatory.

I dont think they wanted people not to stay - they were just trying to give some people the option. But when asked - "does this mean we can go home and come back?" the pc answer was "We need you to be here and in number order at 6am."

They also gave us free little personal ice creams and popsicles as soon as we got there and as always ree coffee and hot chocolate in the morning! They really do spoil us! Out of anywhere that we buy pins - I really do always feel appreciated at DSF by the little extra things they do for us! :0)

Then when you don't get selected to buy one, you and anyone else who does not get selected will just complain about how that is unfair!!! Either way it won't work. The BEST soution is to not announce releases anymore and just put pins on the shelf. word of mouth will take care of itself, Like it did for the Surprise releas. By the time the pin trading event was over, the line was up to number 255. that was at 9:30 am. Plenty of time to get there and get a pin. Since this LE 300 was limit one per person.

At least an RSP gives some of us a chance at the pins. The way things are going now there is no chance at all.

But I do like the idea of unannounced releases. There is a chance there too.

If only they would bring back Disneystore.com pins. :(

Me too! I always try to stop by whenever I go down because of that (even when there's isn't a release :P)

Oh and the last prize for the pin trading event raffle was a camping chair with DSF logo embroidered on it :)
