Hi everyone!
So, rumor has it that they are going to be releasing new podms!! Can anyone confirm this? I wonder what they will be!? Enchanted, sleeping beauty? So many options, I hope this rumor is true!

That rumor has been out since the rumor was out they were stopping. Rumor they were stopping was because Imagineering didn't want to cut up anymore movie reels. But I'm pretty sure they could make movie reels or there has to be a bunch sitting in theater closets somewhere. But the rumor of 2014 PODM's I think started maybe around Nov 2012. We found out they were for sure stopping PODM's in Aug 2012 maybe? With 4 to go I think. SBW, LG, BATB, and PC. Everybody hoped for a Sleeping Beauty and Up for the most part.

Sorry but this seems a way bit speculative, sure, and I read on the internet that Mickey mouse was originally supposed to be squirrel,,,, But seriously..

is it possible,? Sure as is the origin of our hero rodentia,

is it probable? Well some of us who have all or most of them, may be thinking, gods I hope not!

Without a doubt that one series bought out the most uglines from the pin community moreso than any other release in recent memory, from the fistfights to the ubercharging on the net auction sites,
this one series seemed to also herald in a new kind of pin enthusist,
the one who saw pins as a profit medium, because you cant get to the park, and are willing to pay it , I shoud charge 300 or more for a spefic shot,
are we hobbist or collectors?
Without a doubt this one series saw some of our community greatest acts of kindness as some folks zap others with pins or arranged to get for other members, but to the outside world the PODM was PT first noterity, and videos on youtube of midlleaged guys fighting over disney merchandise doesnt speak well for the hobby esp when the guys are spewing obscentity at each other and fighting like its outside Bubbas on a Sat night. in front of DTD or LGM,,

The pins were awesome, a view of what the hobby can become, and the beauty of the artwork that entrances us all, but they were also a glimpse into the real people that see dollar signs and dont appreciate or care about what that little cel may mean...either to the viewer or the creator, and for that I can hope they rest alittle longer.

Now where did such a rumor originate? We hear rumors all the time here but not much holds to be true at times.
I first heard this would be happening from someone who went to the ROE event. I believe they said that it was listed as a series for 2014 or 2015.
I certainly do not know if this is true, just was wondering if anyone else had heard this/knew more details :)

That series can remain dead and buried, in my opinion. Too much hassle and stress surrounded that series, following the Rapunzel release and the obvious trending towards cashing in on pins for profit.

Don't get me wrong, I love the series. I don't love the lengths one has to go through, in order to acquire one.

It is truly unfortunate that people turned it into that. That's why I only try to trade PODMs for other podms because I know their original cost was the same.
I love that series so much, I had no idea there was so much hostility over it. Is that just in Disneyland? When sword in the stone and Aladdin came out at WDW there were no lines, crowding or anything. I don't know about the other ones, but I was there for the release of those two

Hey .... who are you calling middleaged??? :nono:

@lrdobkins

The Disneyland pin traders can be very competitive, plus the area of the Park is much more compact. This lends itself to a much more concentrated amount of people, than WDW, attempting to get the pins, from the three stores selling them, at the same time. A popular princess release can be sold out in a matter of hours and are usually gone by either 10:00 or 11:00 am.

We do this sort of thing for pins (Disneyland, Disney Soda Fountain, WDI, D23, and even for princess themed makeup at Sephora), which probably puts Disneyland guests very high on the list of crazy consumers.

The first couple of times are pretty fun. But when they turned into multiple day campouts, for multiple locations (typically DSF and Disneyland), it got old really fast. Tempers flared and all sorts of nastiness ensued.

Like I stated previously, love the pins... hate the hassle of aquiring them.

I can't remember exactly, but I think at Reflections of Evil they announced two new series of Piece of History pins (one for each resort). I think some people confused this with Piece of Disney Movies and that's how the rumors started.

When sword in the stone and Aladdin came out at WDW there were no lines, crowding or anything. I don't know about the other ones, but I was there for the release of those two

After the Tangled release, things got really bad at WDW. The pins were sold out by noon in most cases, and Beauty and the Beast release, sold out even faster. When I was there for the Mulan release we were able to hit MK, Epcot and Downtown Disney before they sold out. For BatB my parents were only able to buy at MK, it was sold out that fast.

If they do bring PODMs back, they need to increase the edition sizes. I would say 2500 per coast (5000 total) as a starting point. But things like Up or Sleeping Beauty could probably even support even more, considering that people would be happy to have many scenes from a movie (Versus pins where people are happy owning one).

WDW is just as bad as DLR for PODM's. That website that hires 10+ people to come to every release and make the circuit at WDW snatching up all the pins. We're talking like 200+ of each PODM going to one large group of people. DLR resellers have nothing on those people. WDW was still easier to get PODM's than DLR and they had 2 chances with WDW saving some pins for the artist signing. Word was also that WDW got more of the pins, it was never an even 1000/1000 split betwen coasts. WDW supposedly got 1200 while DLR got 800.

PODM's was the first time I can remember where two people could buy the same pin and yet one was better than the other. And not like a mystery box with different pins. It was instantly a contest. Who's scene was better. That competition added to the drama and subsequent shoving, pushing, cutting, running, etc to get a better scene.

Of course no one was lined up for Sword in the Stone no one wanted that pin, few collect the movie. I'm sure there are some that do, but let's face reality, it's not a hot ticket item. There's a reason you almost never see them for trade or sale. They just tanked. Sword in the Stone, Jungle Book, and Dalmations all have ~190 wanting while others are 220-300+ wanting. They just missed the mark with a lesser popular movie. Disney did not create all PODM's equal! Hence the issue with wanting a good scene. Which I think also left room for interpretation of what was a "good scene" and the price hiking.
The first year was particularly bad because the scenes were often absolute junk. There were so few good scenes that only a few were super popular right away. I mean, who wants a horses arse? Or a blank black screenshot with a shadow, or with a white dot? Bambi, Cinderella, Dumbo, Peter Pan all had just awful scenes, Fantasia I think too. Year 2 was a popularity contest too, for sure less popualar were Nemo, Toy Story, Steamboat Willie, Lonesome Ghost, and Pluto's Christmas. Even Monster's Inc just sat at LGM for a month or more. I remember seeing 2 or 3 PODM's hanging at once. Also, don't forget year 1 was $19.95 and year 2 was $24.95. So they didn't all cost the same. 25% increase to year 2. But then the new year they got better scenes but still not the most popular movies. Aladdin didn't have a big line and sell out instantly, PODM's didn't blow up until Tangled.
But better scenes and more popular movies was worth it IMO.

Just in case this rumor is still out there, I know for at least the 2nd half of year two, Disneyland and WDW did both get 1000. Info from someone who could look up the inventory for each selling location the day before release. The WDW split was

Epcot: 250
Downtown Disney: 330 (some held for signing day)
MK: 180
AK: 120
Studios: 80
Contemporary: 40
