New PODMs?!?!

I can't remember exactly, but I think at Reflections of Evil they announced two new series of Piece of History pins (one for each resort). I think some people confused this with Piece of Disney Movies and that's how the rumors started.

This is what I think also. PODM and POH get confused all the time. Heck, some people can't even get PODM right.

Aren't the newer films (WiR, PatF, Frozen) not shot on film but are just all done digitally?

I would not count on them doing another series.

But is they did I would love to see:

UP
Walle
Robin Hood
Sleeping Beauty
Cars
Ratatouille
WIR
Brave
Goofy Movie(but they would never make this one)

I sincerely doubt it will be back as a series.

Here is why: Disney discontinued the Piece of History for about a year (or two?), and when it came back it didnt do as well as a series. They have continued that series, but it DID have a couple years of hiatus. The first year or two it was NUTZ. like PoDM's were. When they brought back PoH, it was in both parks, AND the edition size was increased significantly.

Disney doesnt NEED the hassle of all of us pin psycho's waiting overnight in DTD or in front of park entrances for wristbands and releases. They dont HAVE to, we will buy other pins to feed the addiction. they can make money off us without the extra staff and security.

That being said, a part of me wishes they would bring them back. (i would love an HoND, Hercules, and maybe a few others) The only way i see it being effective without mass hysteria is if they increase edition size and control purchase ability better.

The Tangled PoDM release almost made me quit pins completly. It was a HUGE factor in me Divorcing my Tangled collection. There is just something wrong with a hobby when you watch adult men shove 10 yr old kids out of the way, and watch people you THOUGHT were decent traders cut in line... more than once!! You see others RUN to the next location, and blatantly buy 20+ of the pins for major mark up resale.

I say good riddance to the PoDM Series. It was pretty, it was cool. but the releases were anything BUT pretty cool.

Ok my two cents.... Though with the exchange rate it may be worth three...

I have two PODM pins thanks to a wonderful trader or two on DPF...
Did I want these for the scene.... Nope not at all. Heck you can't even see the scene well unless its back lit. I wanted them because Goofy was in the scene...that's the simple truth of it. They are special pins to me but not because they are PODM. They are special because someone took the time to think of me and what would make me happy.

More PODMs?? I'm on the side of whatever... I would never pay crazy prices or wait hours to get one... But to each his own.
Personally I'm more fascinated by POH pins

I have the two PODM that I wanted. Tangled and Pluto's Christmas Tree. I was not expecting to get Tangled, but my daughter went to the release and got one for me, surprise! These are two pins that I'm always worried about. They are pins I can't really display. I don't want them to get dusty, so I have them each in an open sandwich baggie. I don't want them near the light, so they're in the shadows behind my computer monitor. I love them but I don't know that I'd want anymore.

I hope not! And I didn't see any mention of them on the preview boards last night at the PTN at WWoS (sorry, I don't call it ESPN). I think they did have a new PoH pin.

With that said, as much as I liked these pins, purchased during the WDW releases, I hated the cheating, cutting and some of the worst behavior I have ever seen at a pin release...and I've seen 13 years worth. Makes me sick how people act and how they think it's OK to treat others so poorly. Bah, I still hate thinking about it. So, as much as I love the ones I have, I don't ever want to see these pins released again.

Oh no here we go again

Any way back to the subject... I don't think PODM pins were well thought out. You need a light to really see them well but on the other hand they shouldn't be exposed to light because of the damage it can cause... See what I mean

Don't hate the podm lover we are sexy
No hate. That could have been worded less, sexually. Keep in mind that children are part of this forum, and if a parent saw a comment like that they might think twice in letting their child be part of the forum.

If they do release more PODMs, I wonder if they'll stick to just movies as opposed to shorts. I'm probably wrong, but aren't the Lonesome Ghosts, Pluto's Christmas Tree, and Steamboat Willie the three least popular of the series?

We interrupt this PODM rumor with the following important message:

First and last word of caution, this is a family forum, as it deals with Disney and Disney related topics, and viewable by anyone on the internet, including young ones. With that in mind, please be mindful of things that you post. Those who fail to be mindful will receive warnings/infractions

Thank you, and we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread! :wavey:

Shorts are not necessarily a bad thing. Having a few mixed in would help reduce the pinsanity a bit. There are always a few "duds" mixed in with each series.

That rumor has been out since the rumor was out they were stopping. Rumor they were stopping was because Imagineering didn't want to cut up anymore movie reels. But I'm pretty sure they could make movie reels or there has to be a bunch sitting in theater closets somewhere. But the rumor of 2014 PODM's I think started maybe around Nov 2012. We found out they were for sure stopping PODM's in Aug 2012 maybe? With 4 to go I think. SBW, LG, BATB, and PC. Everybody hoped for a Sleeping Beauty and Up for the most part.

Actually, theaters don't keep the prints after a movie run, they are returned to the studio and 95% of them (at least) are destroyed/recycled. The studio will keep a few (in some cases only 2 or 3, sometimes maybe as many as 100) in their archive for special occasions (like theaters that want to rent old movies for one-time screenings and such or anniversary re-releases).

With the advent of digital, most of this is going away, even for old films. That's probably where the film has been coming from for the previous PODMs, as Disney switches a movie to digital only for theatrical, they destroy more of their archive prints that aren't needed. Cutting them up for pins is a good way to make some money off of them. (And, it's always possible that they printed new reels just for the pins, but that's kind of expensive. If they were going to do that, they should just pick 2 or 3 good frames, and print up hundreds of them, that way there's only 2 or 3 different pins per title... That would help avoid a lot of the mayhem with the series.)

Prints of all movies are still being made, as there are still many theaters that aren't digital (but some studios will stop making prints all together within a year or so, and probably all of them in the next 2 or 3). So even films like Wreck-It Ralph have a fare amount of prints (if they haven't been recycled already) that they could easily set aside for pins. But if they want anything vintage (or anything older than 2 years probably), they'd have to use archive prints or make new ones.

But I wonder if part of the motivation for the series in the first place was that they were starting to get rid of 'extra' archive prints as they convert them to digital for theatrical use...
