PIN & POP PIN & POP Site Announcements & Ideas

PIN & POP PIN & POP Site Announcements & Ideas
I’m new to pin trading and participating in my first trade arcade this weekend. I totally love it. The only thing that is frustrating me is that I have offered pins almost 24 hours ago, and the traders have had 20+ offers the entire time. It would be great if I could offer my pin for a set time, say 12 hours, and then pull it to trade elsewhere. Or maybe give traders a nudge to decline once they have 10 offers or so. Surely they can eliminate some to free up our pins?! Maybe a feature on how long the trader usually takes to accept or decline a pin would be helpful. I suspect these folks are just collecting all the offers before they respond. Which means my pins are locked up until they decline them (which will likely happen with those numbers of offers).

Aside from that, I’m excited to find this resource and can’t wait for the next arcade.

Yes. Make all the offers you want and if other traders miss out because someone else accepted a different offer, that's on them. It's also a reminder to yourself not to sit on offers too long because they may disappear. I tend to let "maybe" offers sit for the first day, and periodically review them to see how I feel. Like for this one, I had Friday offers that I accepted a few of today lunchtime. I like to have 3 offers to review to get a sense of how other people value my pin. Sometimes I get way better offers than I think I will, and waiting pays off. The harder thing to control is if you make offers on multiple of the *same* pin, they could all accept and you end up with duplicates. But you can turn around and trade them in another arcade.

I agree with the "wait for 3 before you trade me" rule! I have a hard time deciding on some pins every event and I like to have options!

From P&P

Coming up in June….

We will not have a Trace Arcade in June. I hope to spend the time getting settled in our new office and getting caught up with all the past events.

However, we will have a Pin-A-Thon weekend on June 20th - 22nd.

What is a Pin-A-Thon? Well this is where we take a weekend to focus on adding pins to the database. A Pin & Pop goal has been to get to 100,000 pins on the site we are getting very close.

The Pin-A-Thon will be a three day event, Friday - Sunday.

We will have prizes that unlock after adding so many pins. During the event I’ll keep you updated on how many pins have been added as well as what prizes get unlocked.

We will have a special on trade tokens during the event so if you are looking to trade over the next few events, this will be the time to stock up on trade tokens.

The next Trade Arcade will be July 11th - 13th.

Hmm... I wonder what the special will be...

That’s the one big thing I wish was different. If I win a pin, I should be able to cancel the rest of my offers for that same pin. I don’t want to get multiples of it. I believe at one point they said they were going to work on that but haven’t been able to get to it yet.

That would be SOOO nice. I really don't want to end up with duplicates, but when 4 or 5 people are offering the same pin from my ISOs it's a total crap shoot guessing which one I will have the best luck bidding on.
It's not a big deal if they're the type of trader that takes care of offers within a few hours or half a day, because then I can move on to a different trader. But when I make an offer within an hour of the event opening, and still don't have resolution when the event closes, that means I missed out on other opportunities to get that pin.
First world problems. But still frustrating.

Best thing if you get duplicates you can re trade them time.

I appreciate all the insight from all you experienced traders. I have scoured the boards for my interests and now would like to start offering trades for others. I see some boards listed as “isos for them,” but their ISO’s that I have aren’t highlighted yellow like mine are. How do I know what pins I have that others want?
Update: so I’m going to those boards, finding things I like, and starting an offer to see what I have that they want. It works but it’s a little clunky. If anyone has a better tip, I’m happy to hear it.

So there are 4 sections to the list of Tables.
  • You both have pins each other wants
  • You have pins they want
  • They have pins you want
  • Neither of you has matches
To see what you have that they want, you have to do a couple steps.
  • Click on their table
  • Click on a pin they have
  • Click the blue "Offer Trade" button
On the popup you will see your pins that match.
  • If you have one or more of their grails they will appear first, on a brownish background
  • If you have one or more ISOs, they will appear on a yellow background
There are also, tabs for ISOs (default if you have at least one match), Interests (default if you don't have a match), Others, and pins they already have listed as Owned.

Pick what pins you want to offer them from the various tabs, and then Review and Submit your offer.

As you are offering trades, try to match like for like, Open Edition (OE) for OE, Limited Release (LR) for LR and Limited edition (LE) for LE. For the LE pins try to get as close to the edition size as you can with your offer. You don't want to offer a LE 4000 for a LE300 for example. Good luck on your quest.

Agreed. I think I’d want to go one step further and be able to rescind any offer that wasn’t accepted yet.

Hoping the move goes well for them and that other thing about getting caught up with past events would be great too.

Jen and/or Chris takes care of that roughly 24 hours after the end of the event. Any trades not sorted get cancelled automatically.
I think Cyke meant during the TA. For example, I offer pin A to person 1. Later I see that person 2 has a pin I want more and they are ISo pin A. I don’t want person 1 to accept the trade as the pin then won’t be available for person 2 so, since they haven’t yet accepted it, I want to cancel it.

During a trade arcade, can you show me the edition size and year for the pin someone offers me - instead of just the title? I realize there is limited amount of space on the screen. I know you show "legendary" and "epic, etc" tags. I want to know the year the pin was released. I do not always remember pertinent details about my ISO pins. I know even less for "related" or "interests" offered pins. Presently, I must click on the pin, scroll to the top of the offer page, then visit the pin's detail page just to see basic information about the pin. When someone sends me 27 pins, that is a lot of work. If you want me to go to the pin's detail page, why must I take through extra steps? Just give me a clickable that opens the pin's detail page in a new window.

The landing page "Nifties Fifties (NF) Flashback Pin Trading Celebration 2025" banner and 'view the pins' link only goes to 54 of the event pins. All of the individual pins are missing.
@Chris Nickols

The individual pins are not part of the series, but have their own series for their sub-set of NF pins. Could this be the problem?

"Niftie Fifties Flashback Pin Trading Celebration 2025"

There is a verified link that states:
This series has been confirmed as containing all available pins and has been verified as complete.

Pins in this series are locked and cannot be moved to other series. Likewise, additional pins will not be able to be added to this series.

Contact jenn@PINandPOP.com if you feel this series has been verified in error.

Thinking the comment could spur duplicate listings (since the NF pins are all in the PnP database... they are just not appearing when clicking on the landing page banner.)

I'm not sure why we now have "Set" and "Series". Seems like overkill and an unnecessary level of complexity. The structure you previously had seemed sufficient. But regardless, if you are going to keep it, the link that I should see when looking at lists of pins should be what I presume to be the lower level (set). A good example is the pins for the WDW 25th event that were recently loaded where all of them have "25 Years of Disney Pin Trading Celebration 2025" rather than their individual sets as previous years had. Having that more generic link makes it harder to get at the actual sets (like the mysteries, Pin Trader Life, etc).

I know we have discussed this elsewhere, today. However, I am prepping to go to the event at Disneyland, and I came across an example, because you asked for chat for an example.

There have been 30 Magical Mystery Pouches produced so far. Right now, these are connected within each Pouch collection via the Series field

Ex: Magical Mystery Pins Series 29 - Slippers Disney Trading Pin Series | Pin & Pop or Magical Mystery Pins Series 23 - Character Water Bottles Disney Trading Pin Series | Pin & Pop

But I want to quickly review all 30 sets to make sure I have marked the pins that match my themes as my ISOs.

If I search "Magical Mystery Series" I can find all 30 pouches. But I also get many additional results like: "Magical Chefs Mystery Collection" (3), "Character Connection: Encanto" (11), "Disney Designer Masquerade Connection" (7), "95th Anniversary Filmstrips" (9) and this is only the first 3 pages of results. Out of 13 pages of results.

In a Series and Sets construction, someone could build a "Series" that has 30 results. Each pouch that has been released. Clicking on one of these, and going to the Pin Detail Page for the Pouch would have link to a Set, that would take you to a page where a person could see the 6 pins for that pouch.

I agree with you that both the Series and the Set link should be accessible from a Search in the search bar, and right now only Series links are displayed. So if I searched "Magical Mystery Series," I would still get my 13 pages of results. But I could find any of the 30 pouches, and click on a link that will take me to a page displaying 30 pouches and go about my business of verifying what I need. But someone who just wants to see the 6 pins in Series 29, could *also* click a link to go to a page with the results they want.

If there is only one option, then one person is happy and one person is digging through 13 pages of Search results.

We've had both Sets and Series for a while but now we are working to clarify the difference (and obviously we have more work to do here) - I'll post a follow up in the next week or two to attempt to clarify this more but simply, a series of pins "belong" together in a themed or released collection but are usually available separately in blind boxes, mystery packs, Pin of the Month (individually purchased). However, a set of pins, while they can be traded separately, are usually purchased together on a single card, frame or lanyard.

I think it's important to have a distinction between the two (especially for trading) but we need to work harder on making the distinction easier to understand and easier to work with in our system.

Thanks @Chris Nickols . That certainly makes sense to me. FWIW, it differs from what I am hearing from others. So it sounds like the communication part is the big needed/pending piece, even within P&P. What you describe as series aligns with what I have seen and understood. I had been hearing that was going to be moved down to the set level and Series was going to be changed to be a conglomeration of Sets, such as the example Hope gave above with the potential change to those mystery series. Glad to hear the current Series (and set) design is remaining the plan. Now I just need to convince someone to break all the mystery sets from the upcoming WDW 25th event into separate Series which is what started this whole discussion. :)
