SPOILER WARNING! Wreck-It Ralph Pin discussion HUGE MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!
I just got back from the movie. I agree that Paperman might be one of the best shorts ever made. I enjoyed Wreck-It Ralph although I think the first act of the movie goes by too fast. We don't really get to see much of Ralph's game or Game Central Station before Ralph leaves his game. It would have been nice to get to know the characters better, show why Ralph wanted a medal so badly, and get a better understanding of how the game world worked similar to how there is quite of bit that goes on in Toy Story before Buzz arrived and the central storyline began. The movie does build steam though and the ending is surprisingly emotional. This is only the second time I've ever experienced the audience all go "aww" at the same time (when Ralph talks about the best part of his day). I saw a late showing with nearly no children in the audience, but everyone was very into the movie. The design for the Sugar Rush world is so cute that it makes me want to collect Sugar Rush.

I love Paperman as well! I usually like Disney shorts but this one is one of my favorites! I love the style, the flow, and the music. It was perfect! I wish they had pins of that :)

I'm not sure what you mean since the entire beginning of the movie basically shows why Ralph wants the medal. It showed that he was always treated as the bad guy even though he's just programed it to be like that. He was forced to live out with the other piles of junk and even though he never hurt or was mean to anyone, the tenants were always fearful, hateful, and aloof in his presence. That's why he wanted to get the medal. It was his one way ticket to what he thought would be a better life. I thought that there was a good amount of time spent on that.

I agree with you that I wanted to see more of Game Central but at the same time I can understand why. As of now, it's just a passageway between games kind of like the main subway stop. To the game characters, it's not that big of a deal while to us we want to know more. That's why hopefully they'll shed more light in the sequel since the director already revealed that he ideas for the 2nd WIR.

I feel the exact same way about that statement. It isn't cheating if you choose Vanellope though, since she is glitched in the game, anyone can just pick Vanellope to level the playing field. I know this is thinking about the metagame (thinking about a game in another form of media) but I thought Vanellope was extremely unfair and OP. If Sugar Rush was a real arcade game with her like that and the other racers didn't have some special power that they could use to level the playing field, Vanellope would eventually be banned from being chosen seeing as she makes the entire game unfair to those who don't choose her.

I'm the exact opposite, as I watched the movie I thought it was a prime opportunity to say it, but I thought it was just overall too cheesy. Confronted with an actual life or death circumstance, barely anyone alive will think of a witty catchphrase to say. To me, it made Ralph very grounded that even when confronted with death, he wasn't thinking about himself and what he would say, but saving Vanellope. That made me tear easily hands down.
It makes me wonder if the 2nd game would explain more of glitching. Is it if you're glitched you can't be unglitched? I can see that crossing the finish line meant unlocking everyone's memories but to me i thought it was a reset all kinda thing which would unglitch her since I thought the whole reason why she's glitched is because King Candy disconnected everything from her in the main frame. But if everything is reset and reconnected to her, wouldn't that mean she wouldn't be a glitch anymore? Hmmm.. questions questions...

I don't think it's a witty catchphrase. It IS the catchphrase. My boyfriend and I thought that would be meaningful since throughout the entire movie, all he did was wreck things... physically that is. After he recited the villains support group's credo when he was falling: "I'm bad, and that's good; I will never be good, and that's not bad" it was of him truly accepting his role in being a bad guy, I would think that by saying "I'm gona wreck it" is him not only accepting that he can wreck things but that doesn't necessarily make him evil since he's wrecking the mentos for good; to kill all the robot bugs. I don't think by him saying it, it makes him selfish I just think that this entire adventure brought him to this point where it doesn't matter anymore if he's seen as the bad guy. As long as he can accept himself and be a hero in someone's eyes, Vanellope, then even if he had to wreck things, which in his eyes is a bad thing since he can't fix things, it's okay because it's for Vanellope and for the good.

I wanted to see more of Ralph in his own game. They showed a little bit as a flashback while he was talking to the other villains, but I would have liked to see what his job was like, his relationship with Felix/Glenn/other villains, and more of how crummy his life is with the 30th anniversary party being the last straw. It was interesting how they drew parallels between being a villain and prejudice in our society (Ralph always being singled out for additional security screening, others whispering and getting worried when they see him in public). I guess I wanted to see something like Toy Story where we see how Woody is the leader before Buzz arrives so that there's more emotional impact when Buzz becomes the favorite. They could have shown Ralph thinking that he's part of the group and that Felix is his friend so that when he doesn't get invited to the party it stings a little more.

I thought the EXACT same thing originally, but I think the SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER glitch is something that can be gotten rid of or fixed at will because Vanellope said she chose to keep the glitch, why would she give it up when she could be here, or here, or here, or here, or here, etc. as she was going all over the place. I do hope someone makes her give it up because that is not fair...at all.

Difference in point of view I guess and I understand where you are coming from, but I don't see it. I see the Bad-Anon speech as a way for him to cope with what is about to occur (his death) and I think saying his catchphrase doesn't really help with that coping..."I'm gonna wreck it" is an obvious statement seeing as he was, for lack of a better term, going to wreck it lol but it doesn't help him focus on what the main point is...that he was finally okay with being bad. I don't think he ever associated "wrecking" with being bad because he wrecked Vanellope's kart and he, at the time, thought it was for her own good.

Earlier today I started hoping for a Kingdom Hearts world based on WIR, but then thought it would be way to similar to Space Paranoids and The Grid. But I still say it would be awesome. What do you guys think?

As much as I love Kingdom Hearts (and believe me it's one of my all time favorite video games! Love it so much!) I would be utterly confused as to why it'll show up it WIR. Will just seem super out of place. I don't think WIR is a place for any game characters but more of old school and modern games that most kids, teens, and adults know. They pick very specific game characters to show up and mention while everything else is made to imitate a game such as Wreck-It-Ralph = Mario and Sugar Rush = Mario Kart since I think if they were to try to bring everyone in, there would be big licensing issues and probably cost more to use the characters.

Mmm.. I can see what you mean. Basically, you wish there was more backstory and more elaboration to Ralph himself. While I do get it, I personally liked the movie's pacing. While I would love to know more, it's not something that will make and break this film for me. Maybe in future sequels, they will cover this though :)

While I doubt any single person will be able to mention every single one (unless they've seen the movie 5 times already lol), I can mention as many as I remember:

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

- Ryu and Ken speak to each other the first time the arcade closes
- One of the girls from Dance Dance Revolution tells every other arcade machine that the arcade is closed
- When the movie skips through time showing all of the arcade machines that have come and gone, you can see many famous arcade machines (I noticed Street Fighter and Street Fighter II) being swapped in and swapped out
- Bowser, Zangief, Blinkie, a Kano-look a like, and Blinkie are at Bad-Anon
- Bad-Anon takes place inside Pacman's game
- "Aerith" from Final Fantasy VII I believe is spelled in graffiti when you first enter Game Central Station
- Chun Li is seen talking to Zangief when Ralph is holding the Pacman cherry
- Q-bert along with many other game characters are sitting in game central station
- Sonic appears on the directories in the station talking about losing lives outside of your own game
- There are many football players walking around the Station
- Ralph finds a Mushroom while looking for the medal in the lost-and-found
- Ralph finds Zangief's underwear in the lost-and-found too
- Ralph drinks at Tapper's bar
- Ryu is seen drinking, getting up, and leaving in Tapper's bar (in 3D, not 2D like in the beginning)
- Various game characters autographs are seen in the hallway of Tapper's (I noticed Chun Li, Ryu, Ken, Blinkie, Sonic, and a few others I can't remember)
- Pacman and Sonic are at the 30th anniversary party
- Mario is name dropped at the party for always being fashionably late
- Chun Li is talking to a Pauline and Daisy look-alike in Game Central Station

I didn't notice anymore, but I believe I'll be seeing it again this week so I'll try to spot more :)

Oh yeah, I remembered that the end of the race against King Candy the track was rainbow and had no edges ala Mario Kart final level. Also the boxes of mystery power-ups was very Mario Kart esque. Turbo seemed to be from the game Outrun which did have a sequel called Outrun Turbo. I saw a hidden mickey on a billboard outside the arcade when it is zooming in the front door in the beginning of the movie.

You'd have to be a true vintage gaming geek to catch this one (and, yes, I am one... :) ), and it's not technically a gaming character, but Mr. Litwak was inspired by Walter Day
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Day
He's the creator of Twin Galaxies which is an organization that tracks world-record high scores on video games (arcade games mostly I think). And he's always seen wearing that referee shirt. :)

That's one real-life character in the movie based on a real-life character in the real world... I wonder if there are others. Like the little girl playing Fix It Felix... They should have had Billy Mitchel playing Pac Man (maybe they did, actually).

The first person to ever get a perfect score on Pac-man...

I don't think it would be similar AT ALL. A WIR game would most likely take place in just Sugar Rush and Wreck-It-Ralph. Those 2 worlds are completely different than both The Grid or Space Paranoids. On top of that, they could have the world be comletely based in Sugar Rush, with Sora & co. trapped inside because the game views them as glitches (considering they weren't programmed into the game). I think WIR and Kingdom Hearts will definity mix one day, but I would much rather they focus on other worlds first (Tangled would be nice).

I agree with this very much. I can see a WIR appearing in Kingdom Hearts considering they visit many different worlds, but I cannot see a big Kingdom Hearts reference appearing in the WIR movie (graffiti would be the most I could see but I can't see any KH character directly appearing in the movie).

There was graffiti that said "Sheng Long was Here" and there was one that said Jenkins which might have been a Leroy Jenkins reference.

The Aerith one actually said "AERITH LIVES." I thought that was funny xP

Hey folks!
Just letting you know at Disneyland they are having meet and greets of Ralph and velonpe at the arcade area at tommrowland. :)
just so fans will know. :)

Do you guys think SPOILER SPOILER (lol) that King Candy/Turbo will return if they make a sequel? I was having quite the conundrum over this. Here is my hypothesis:

If Turbo got in to Sugar Rush, he wrote himself into the game. There was a piece for "King Candy" in the game's mainframe when he went to move the "medal" piece (his secret lair thing). So in essence, he is a part of the game. Unless, of course King Candy was always a part of it, and Turbo just took over? Either way, I could see Disney making him come back, if he was in fact somehow a part of the game. When you die in your game, you regenerate, correct? Therefore, wouldn't Turbo regenerate? :o

Or, when the Cybug ate him, he then became a virus, and can't regenerate? Questions, questions.... I just want to know if he is alive or not!!

Either way, I am seriously dying for a King Candy/Turbo/Cybug mash up pin. I think it would look amazing. I can't stop thinking about it!!

And uh...where do you think Felix and Calhoun are living? xD I can't picture Felix fitting in in Hero's Duty, but I REALLY can't picture Calhoun sitting in the Penthouse of Fix it Felix Jr.!
I have decided I also want a Felix and Calhoun wedding pin. Yep. It needs to happen.

And wait...there was a short at the end? What kind? :o I didn't stay until after the credits

Yay! more Kingdom Hearts fans! Almost done with Dream Drop Distance...
I'm almost done with KH DDD as well, I just got back from watching this movie and I loved it. I can't wait to go watch it again, and again. I loved all the references, and as a huge Nintendo fan, I loved the Konami code.

i didn't know there were so many gamers into pin collecting, now I don't feel like such an odd ball. :)

The movie 'kill screened' at the end of the credits.

It was short and simple, but totally worth waiting for. :)

I just realized I want a Fix-It Felix Jr. arcade game pin... And Sugar Rush, Hero's Duty, etc... It'd be cool to see pins of the actual game machines as seen in the arcade...

I loved Wreck it Ralph, I took my grandma to see it last night with my little sister.

I will tell you the only thing I didn't like:

PAPERMAN.

NO. NONONONOONONNONONOO. Bad Disney BAD D:<

A few years ago a French short came out and it was simply called "Love". It was a live action short and it was at the international film festival, it didn't win...but PAPERMAN is basically the same exact movie just using 3d with a cell shaded shader. I was so sad...It was a cute short, my grandma enjoyed it but I REALLY HOPE that Disney bought the short, or asked to redo it. I don't think I'd ever been mad at anything Disney did until now :/

I just saw Signs with the link rik posted and they are alarmingly alike, but not completely. It is possible that Paperman took some elements off of it, but I do think in the end they are different in some ways. In this day and age it is fairly easy to claim rip-off on anything and everything. I'm trying to give Disney the benefit of the doubt lol xP

I think the Paperman "storyline" has been done a million times in a million different ways, just tweaked here and there. Heck, it reminded me of those silly little "Dating Site" commercials they have on television right now. It's just a classic boy-meets-girl story where they meet again due to some magical third party and end up living happily ever after. I don't think they made it for the story, I think they made it to show off a huge step in animation history. It was just a good way to show that animation off-- just some cutesy, memorable little love story. It's nothing to get angry about, in my opinion. Even if they did "copy" it, or take the idea from someone else, it's still beautifully done. xD

As for King Candy being in the sequel, I hope that they don't go that route. I don't care for when they bring back villains in the Disney sequels. It's always far more exciting when they bring in another villain (hopefully not related to the original, i.e. Zira in Lion King 2 or Morgana in Little Mermaid 2). I'm anxious to see what they do end up doing, and I hope it doesn't take them ten years to do it!

I feel kind of the same way. I don't think it would be bad if he made a cameo or played a very minimal role, but I wouldn't want him playing a big part all over again. Kind of how Morgana was related to Ursula and that reminded you of Ursula, like that. I wouldn't like it if he came back to life and was the main bad guy all over again. I just think with so many different genres that they could really think outside the box and hopefully bring bad guys from other types of video games.

Yeah, like, I find myself LOVING King Candy/Turbo. He was a pretty awesome villain, considering just how EVIL he was! It was almost disturbing, the things he did and said, when you really think about it! So it's not about that at all-- it's just that (like you said), they could go so many other ways with it. There are many more possible villains that they could create. And like I saw for other ideas, perhaps the arcade characters could be introduced to console/online games, and there's some nerdy hacker villain, or some big baddie from a console/online game-- the possibilities are truly endless.

I think that is really interesting if they had a human become the bad guy or they had a console game that came out that was filled with all these classic arcade games (all of the one's in the arcade at least) and then WIR could be introduced to the online gaming community, and possible even other versions of himself and one of them could try to be the definitive one. There are a lot things they could do, and seeing as WIR1 turned out so well, I very well trust WIR2 in Disney's hands.
