Mine thinks I'm weird for "wasting money on pins" lol. How about you?

Mixed bag really. They do think I'm insanely weird but also they like my enthusiasm for something. I'm a brony though so if anything the pin collection is fine, dad started me on it on family holidays, its the collection of plastic ponies and my cosplaying that worries them!

Trick to them not bothering you about your pin trading, like even weirder things

My parents have come to accept my addiction. I mean, I make my own money, pay for my own gas, and drive to DSF and DLR on my own. Why should they care?

I got started trading at Disneyland with a bunch of family members. I'm the only one that has kept up with it though. My grandma bought some of the Magical Musical Moments pins from the Disney Store when we got back from the trip, but that was the extent of it.

IN the words of RIZZO from GREASE...."there are worse things i could do, then collect a pin or 2".....ok almost exact. Anyway my sweetheart loves it cause it keeps me busy while he is away on business, outa trouble !!! LOL so he feeds my addiction and the kids come up to my room and say "I thought you said we have no money for food"???? Which is true cause i bought pins with it...LMAO

Well my gf collects pins too, so she's definitely OK with it, and the rest of my family knows that I have been collecting collectibles for mostly my whole life, so they understand what's involved

My familys cool with it but one time I was freaking out because I thought my grail I bought was a scrapper and my sister was like 'so?'
and I replied ' o_o ....... SO?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN SO?! IM ASHAMED TO CALL YOU MY SISTER...' haha so she doesn't truly understand XD

My whole family collects pins. We have been doing it for years and have spent many nights camping out back in the old days. It's something fun to do as a family and we have made many friends over the years doing it.

My uncle sent me a box of pins that his kids and I had collected from back in the late 80's. He asked me, "So does it feel like Christmas?" I said, "No. I won the LOTTO!"

I have a wonderful hubby, who started my addiction. Until the pins came into my life, we did not know I had an addictive nature. At first hubby was surprised at my unexpected obsession. Now, he just smiles and says its ok, since I don't spend money on myself normally.

It depends on the day and their moods, lmao! Most of the time they don't say much about it; they think it is good to have a hobby. However, I think they wish I wouldn't talk about my pins and my pin friends as much as I do! I try to sell stuff so I don't take the household money for my pins, or that would be a MAJOR problem! I just try to sell odds and ends to make my pin buying money; also, this way they don't know if one day I can afford one of the pricey ones, ha ha!!! Overall, they know I am  and love me just the same!

Everyone already says we are a little crazy to be such huge Disney fans. They think the pin collecting is just an extension of this insanity. My mother is the exception, though, she thinks the pins look pretty cool.

For me, my family knows it helps keep me focused so they don't mind. I come from a big family of Disney geeks, we all collect something. My older sister collects all the old movies, including the live action stuff that few people have heard of. My younger sister is in art school right now, hoping to eventually get a job with the Disney company. She has a few pins from friends but she's mainly a tattoo collector. She has a very intricate Jabberwocky on her left arm that turns into an old tree that the Cheshire cat is laying on. Even my sister in law, my brother's wife, has Alice tattoos and collects Toy Story memorabilia.

I'm pretty lucky to have a family that's not just cool about it, they're supportive. The 3 Caballeros pin I recently acquired was a sporadic gift from my Dad. Why? He said it was because I never ask for pins, so he wanted to treat me.

My fiancée doesn't mind he has his own little collection that he bought/traded while we was at Disneyland Paris
plus I was doing this years before I met him so he knows that I'm serious about it to keep it up this long.

Outside of my work life and me and my fiancée.. I have it pretty bad at the moment. Like social/friends wise through something that wasn't even my fault that's what upsets me the most... But my boyfriend knows that doing this is one of the only things that occupy me and make me happy so he likes me to buy pins as they bring out a smile in me most often hidden.

My mum doesn't mind ... I've got her 2-3 Alice pins over the years and she loves them.

Anything slightly Disney related my dad has the same answer "I hate mickey mouse" lol but he don't care either... As long as he doesn't get dragged into it he's okay hehe when they first released pins in english shops the closest one to me was at Lakeside so he done the 40 mins drive there and 40 minutes drive back to take me as he knows how important they are to me

My family are cool with it. My brother collects coins and my mum collects autographs. So they understand me collecting pins. My friends think they are cool (but they don't have the collecting bug lol)

My hubby thinks I'm completely insane, my one daughter thinks I'm off my rocker and my other daughter wants them for the grandkids. In fact she is fast getting addicted to the hobby There is hope for her to fall under my spell and be the pin addict I think she can be

They definitely like it a lot better than my cosplaying and Pokemon Plush collecting, haha. In fact, my mom got her own lanyard the other day.

...it has begun.

Between my mother's purse collection, my sister's shoe collection, and my brother's gun collection, I would put pin collecting in the "mild" section.

The biggest thing I need to do is to keep them organized so they don't lurk out of my room and into the shared areas of the house. Rules of the house is that you don't spread your hobbies and/or collections out of your personal space.

I have been collecting for almost 10 years. I have had MANY other hobbies over my lifetime and I expect to probably have a few more in the years ahead. Many people feel that since I am "over 60 years old, retired, and worked in NYC in the Finance area" that I would prefer golf or something like that.

I actually have made MANY friends from this hobby and actually enjoy looking over "our little pieces of art" every now and then. I have over 2500 Villains pins and I do not see stopping in the near future. Mt wife is a "casual collector" with about 400 pins but she says she is Not a "pin crazy person like me" lol!!

Our kids have no interest in the hobby so who know what will happen to our collections when we are gone!!

Mike S.

My kids like it but lose interest quickly. They love when new pins come in the mail. I don't know how to disply the pins so that they an appreciate the hobby. My wife s OK with it but knows I am a big kid at heart!
