Wristbands for next weeks DLR PoDM pins
I don't see this a dramatic game changer. This does the following:

  • Makes it easier for everyone to at least get through the line once so that one person isn't walking away with 30 pins and another leaves with nothing.

  • Moves the time period of when you can get multiples. Instead of getting through one line and making a mad dash to the next line people will just have to go through once and then wait for the 1:00 line if they want extras.

  • People will still be able to get extras, it is just going to distribute them more fairly. Instead of an environment where one aggressive person can push and shove their way to 22 pins while 9 other people only get two a piece, it redistributes the opportunity so that all ten people come away with four each.

  • This *should* do nothing to the prices. The total number of pins has not changed. And the number of people wanting the pins in theory has not changed. If the prices change it is because of seller manipulation....but of course, that is already going on so discussion on prices is pretty moot anyway.

And as far as the next release goes....Steamboat Willie? The story will be different for Beauty and the Beast, but if this release does have a huge turn out I'm thinking people are going to be sitting on these pins for quite a while. Very few people probably collect Steamboat Willie as a theme. I'm a huge PODM fan/collector and I don't even want this pin. I'm only going to get one or two because I feel obligated to. I greatly dislike that it is not a feature file and that the pin is in all black and white because it is going to stick out like a sore thumb when put with the rest of the collection.

I'm most interested to see how the handle people who are not as up to date w disney info as we all are - who show up that morning like normal - go to say westward ho only to be told they have to go all the way to downtown to get a wristband - I can see tons of complaints about that. And yeah this actually benefits resellers who usually bring tons of people with them anyways . . . and hurts people who want a couple for themselves and a couple for trade.

I don't see how that is completely true. If a seller was bringing three other people with them before and as a pack line hopping and hitting four different locations, that 2 pins per person which is 8 per line and at 4 lines that is 32 pins. With this method, that same pack of four people would go through the wristband line once and then may only be able to go through the second chance line once which would bring their group total down to 16 pins.

This new method:

1. Hurts the sellers/traders that brought multiple people AND line hopped.
2. Hurts the singular seller/trader that worked alone but went to more than two lines to in order to get multiples.
3. Helps the seller/trader just wanting to get their two pins and can now possibly get a couple of extras.
4. Leaves somewhat unchanged the seller/trader that wanted to get four pins total - two from the wristband and two from the second chance.

Yes, this new method makes it more difficult for the person trying to help gobs of people and sell to them at cost, however, with a more even distribution it should allow others to get more than they usually do and step up to the plate to fill in that gap.

well poop!!!

I need one of these pins and I cannot get to the park until about 8:30am, due to dropping hubby off at work first. Do you think this will make the pins last longer on the shelves perhaps????

good thing i am over at WDW, lol.

let me know if u need help with BaTB i know i will be going for sure for that one, i will be needing at lest 3 for me.

I would think that people who sell these for a living would just bring more people with them with these rules. That could mean higher prices if they end up having to pay someone to help them get more. I agree with Crystal that it benefits resellers and hurts people who want a couple for themselves and a couple for trade.

TRue, good points...

From what I was told, all wristbands will be handed out at the same place - right around Pin Traders / Rain Forest Cafe / ESPN Zone area - the line up starts up in the DTD parking lot where most of them start up...

well IMO, this could make things so much worse, like it can make people angry and stuff, but my advice is for you guys that are in the lines that day, if you guys see someone cutting in line, just get a few witnesses and call a cast member and they will take care of it, just please don't start screaming and putting and calling people names because remember, we(here in DPF family) have to make the difference and show people that pin trading is not full of crazy, nasty people. stay calm, and "try" to just go with an smile and leave with an smile. best of luck you guys. keep us post it on how this release method ends up working out.

Thank you ... The last release my younger cousin got pushed and hurt (not badly, but still unacceptable) while trying to get a PODM at DLR, the person cut in line and didn't get reprimanded or anything. It was just upsetting because if that happened to me or i would have been there someone would have gotten a beating...lol.. it's nice that they're making things civil and preventing people being upset, injured, or left out. It's a good idea for dlr since the amount of PODM there is limited to 500

What I like is if & when you get your wristband circa 6am, then you don't have to sit around and vegetate at all and can be on your way until the stores open. Win win for me.

omg, i would totally gotten physical as well if someone would had hurt someone dear to me, i can't believe people sometimes, they are worse than animals. god, you are right it is never acceptable to be a jerk and push people over, good thing i don't live in disneyland, it seem things there are way worse, the way pin traders handle things(leases). anyways... hope you don't get in to a fight over these pins, it is not worth it.

So does DLR get 500 of these? Do we know for sure? If so, that means there will be 250 wristbands total.

wow, 25o writbands is a low quatity for DL. i know DL gets less than WDW since we have more parks and well you know we are better(totally kidding, just having fun), but not sure if it is 500 that they get, with other release good sources of info in the pin trading world(cast member at PTN incharge of answering questions of upcoming release) have told me DL gets 40% of the edition size of a pin being share between DL and WDW meaning if the edition size is 1000, DL gets 400, and WDW gets 600. but IDK how they are doing it for PODM...

I believe it is more than 500. I've asked each location how many they had and these are what I found out. Obviously each release has been slightly different as some other locations with 10 or 20 have been used one month and not the next (embarcadero, toontown).

Paradise Pier: 10
Disneyland Hotel: 20
Downtown Disney: 200+
World of Disney: 50+
Fly-N-Buy: 30
New Orleans: 50
LGM: ~200
Westward Ho: 200+
Emporium: 110

I believe it really is 800-1000, though it sure doesn't feel like it.

Ok so for the LK release they had wristbands and it didn't do anything. So I was one of the crazies who got in line for LK the night before and around 2am-ish the security guys said that they would normally not allow us to wait inside the DTD parking area (but since we were there they allowed it). They said next time they want people to wait outside of the DTD parking area (where those white booths are) until they open it up and then they would give out wristbands around 5-6am and you can leave and do whatever you want.

The problem is that no one left because you needed to keep your place in the line we had been waiting in all night. So wirstbands for DTD did nothing because people just stayed in their same place in line even when the cast members told us to leave and come back at 8am.

Not sure what will actually happen this time for DTD. I have a feeling they don't want people in the DTD parking area until it has been cleared for security reasons. But that doesn't mean people won't be there waiting still.

Not much help, but I wanted to let you know that the first attempt at wristbands failed. The one thing it did prevent was random people trying to walk up and cut everyone to buy because you had to have your wristband cut off when you purchased.

But again, that is seller manipulation of the pricing. There are still 2,000 pins to go around. If a seller has to pay people to go with them in order to get more than their fair share that cost should come out of their profits. Am I saying that the sellers won't try to pass their self created costs off onto the buyer, no, of course they are going to. Does it now make that pin that you used to be able to get for $40 now worth $70? No. The increase in a sellers costs does not and should not increase the true value of a pin. It will only change the amount a person is going to hold it ransom for.

If a seller feels that their own personal cost and effort should increase the value of an item.....do the buyers a favor and stay home. The recent spikes in values on some of the recent releases are absolutely artificial and being driven by the sellers' activity.

Yeah 250 does seem low! WDW better than DLR?! HA! JKJK. I really want to go to WDW I've never been

Were the wristbands not numbered and then pins sold in numerical order of wristbands???

Yep. People will be bringing their ENTIRE family to get as many of these as they can! All of a sudden 2-year olds will be pin traders.

My son is 5 and he is a pin trader, but he does not care much about the PODM's except to look at mommies scenes and yes he helped me get 2 more but I used them strictly to trade with and traded them pretty much at value, one even less, because I too get annoied with the high prices for good scenes on E-bay and wish to help other traders who didn't get one to be able to obtain one. In return I bought him a pin for his collection as a thank you for helping his mommy. So if anyone sees me and my son at a release and we both have bracelets, it's because we are both traders, lol, I don't know if I will ever make another PODM release they seem to always fall on a work day. I've been relying on others to help me keep my set up to date, I really hope bracelet thing does not interfere with others obtaining multiples to help others out.

T.T Oh dear... now this may just be me, but it was nice to have a release where wristbands weren't needed (and you didn't have to travel to the location twice) to get some pins... the old way worked just fine! This is the last PODM for me anyway before I head back to the UK, but I wonder how this will end up working out...

OH bOY. First its funny how everyone likes different things. I love alot of the PODM but THIS one i want badly. I love black and white pins? I dont know why. I love how they look all together and i love how this frame was done. (i cant see the films anyway cause i keep them on black pages) I also feel so sad for you DL folks. I'm not saying there are not rude peeps everywhere, but when i go to DTD in fla. There isnt even a line? Infact i was there 5 days after the PODM aladdin release and they still had pins...i got the last one. I hope the wrist band at least helps spread oout the bullies. I feel sorry for the kids, it seems like there was pushing and rudness which is NOT the Disney example. Good luck to everyone, and lets take care of eachother the best we can. Keep trading, keep sharing, keep Zapping.
