what do you collect and why?

I am new here and to pin trading. We just did it our first time on our trip Dec 15-24. I can't believe it took me this long to try it. My dh and 11 year old dd loved it too. My 14 year old ds not so much. lol I would love to hear what people collect and why. I am so new at this ad still trying to figure things out. Like what is real and fake. ect... I have some ideas of what I want to collect. But right now, it's kind of what I like. Which is most everything. lol

I think I would like to have ones for favorite rides, or things that scream Disney to me. Like Small World. I also like pins with Minnie and Mickey in different scenes. Like the couples pins. Those are so cute. I also would like one of every park. My fave characters are Minnie, Tink, Eeyore and Snow White.

Hello, My 9 year old son and I have been collecting and trading for 5 years now. We collect mostly the attractions or places/hotels that we have been to or ridden on. We also collect Tron/Stitch/Pie Eyed Mickey/Hauted Mansion Opin House/Yeti and Space Mountain pins. I guess most people start out with pins that catch their eye or ones that they can relate too, like we did. After we got a little better and knowledgeable we branched out from there. Whatever you decide it won't be wrong because it is your collection. Have fun and enjoy doing it as a family!

My biggest pin collection is Figment/Dreamfinder. My very first Disney trip is pretty much a blur, but I specifically remember meeting Dreamfinder. It was so cool to me then (and still is now) that this wasn't a big animal walking around. It was a guy who took the time to bend down and talk to me. That he saw me timidly reaching towards Figment and told me I could pet him - not to mention that I could imagine him when I got home so that I could keep petting him - was just too much. My little three year old self nearly exploded. I also have several sketches and prints from Art of Disney, as well as the Noble Knight figure and a really cool bank that my dad scored for me on eBay.

My other main focus is on the Haunted Mansion. I loved the dancing ghosts as a kid, and the attraction overall still appealed to me when I went through my angsty teenage years. I'm particularly fond of Ezra and the Hatbox Ghost (obviously!).

Lastly are the villains. Just because.

I also have smaller sub-collections. I love the Redhead. I hang on to pins for my favorite attractions - which means I'll likely end up with at least one pin for EVERY attraction. *sigh* And I try to get pins for major holidays and events.

Great answers. I love those D pins that is an awesome collection. I agree that somethings I am collecting because they are of my first disney memories. My dad took us twice as a kid. Once before Epcot was open. I still have the stuffed Eeyore I got on one of those trips. I am wondering what my kids will remember most and collect. Mine are 11 and 14 and been 5 times.

It's funny you say that about the Haunted Mansion ride. I remember as a kid really thinking those ghosts were coming home with me and I didnt' like it all. lol

We just started too and I'm having a hard time narrowing it down. I think my main collection will be Chip and Dale since they have always been my favorite and my oldest son (8) wants to collect Pluto. My younger kids like every pin they see which makes it hard to trade them. I love the idea of doing favorite attractions, special events and places.

Hubs and I collect pins we like, mostly of characters we like or the (California) parks and attractions. Hubs loves Goofy, Sorceror Mickey, and Chernabog. I love Donald, the White Rabbit, and the Queen of Hearts. We both like the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat. Hubs likes the Cars characters and anything to do with planes or with being a mechanic. We both love hats, and we've collected the entire Character Hats - Collectible Pin Pack set. I also like to get pins of characters you don't see very often. I recently bought pins of the Wardrobe from Beauty and the Beast, Bolt, and Yzma. Hubs loves patriotic pins.

Other than Disney pins, I collect music boxes. I have somewhere between thirty and forty, but I haven't gotten a new one in years because I've run out of places to put them. One of my favorites is one with Mickey and Minnie building a sand castle inside a water globe that plays "By the Sea." I collect them because I love the sound of the music boxes and how they come in so many different shapes and sizes.

When I first started, it was DSF marquees as I'm a big movie buff. Then it expanded to opening day pins for the movie releases. I also collect Disney Star Wars pins but not specifically Star Tours. But over time, a pin here and there has caught my eye that I've added to my collection like Haunted Mansion and event pins.

I forgot I so have to get a cool Fox and the hound pin. That was the first Disney movie my parents ever took me to see. That might be the only movie my mom has ever went to that I remember. lol Our religious beliefs didn't include going to the movies. But as I got older she let me make my own choice. But I always remember she took me to that one. lol

My main collection is the Hitchhiking Ghosts from the Haunted Mansion. Adore Ezra; he's my favourite. I also collect other pins from the Mansion; mainly interested in the Hatbox Ghost, Organist and pins depicting the Mansion itself (both DLR and WDW).

My other main collection is Phantom Manor (DLRP). I'm trying to be a completist or at least semi-completist. To go along with the Western theme (and also the connection of the Manor to DLRP's Frontierland story-wise) I collect Thunder Mountain, Thunder Mesa and Thunder Mesa Riverboat pins. Frontierland is my favourite land especially at DLRP.

My main collection is The Little Mermaid. TLM was by far my favorite film as a kid and is still one of my favorite films. I adored Ariel as a kid and I still love her. I could always relate to her for wanting to be part of a different world. I mostly collect Ariel as a mermaid, Ariel and Flounder, Ariel and Eric, and Ursula. I don't really collect the rest of the pins. This movie and then the musical helped me a lot through high school and college. The songs helped me relax and watching the movie is a stress reliever.

I collect the princesses as well. However, I don't collect the princes separately. I only have the princes on pins with their princess. I however am turning my princess collection into a collection of just Snow White, Belle, Jasmine, Aurora, and Cinderella. Belle and Jasmine were my other two favorite princesses growing up. Like with Ariel, I have a personal connection with Belle. The BatB musical has helped me a lot in grad school because I can relate to Belle. "Home" has become one of my most played songs on itunes and my ipod. I still love Jasmine and love the fact she stood up to her father and Aladdin when they tried to con her into get married. She is still by far one of the strongest princesses. I ended up falling in love with Cinderella, Snow White, and Aurora when I rewatched their movies. I am getting my masters in history and one of the reasons I am starting a "classic prince collection" is because they were the original three princesses and they did help create history. Snow Whites success made Disney possible. If that movie flopped, Disney would not be the company it is today. Cinderella also helped Disney financially and she is one of the strongest princesses, in my opinion. Sleeping Beauty is by far the most beautiful film Disney ever created. The animation is just breathtakingly beautiful. The Evil Queen has become one of my favorite villains so she is one of the only villains I collect. I am kicking myself for not getting the designer villain merch when I had the chance.

I collect mainly Beauty and the Beast I just love the meaning behind the movie finding inner love for one another. I also collect The little mermaid just like the pins. A little of snow white mainly the seven dwarfs ( grump and dopey). My son has been collecting since he was three (2000) he started with just picking a pin everytime we went instead of a toy then his collection started he collects chip n dale. My husband collects the Haunted Mansion and Pirates I think that is the dark side of him. My daughter could careless about pins she says they are just pieces of metel with paint on them. but before she felt this way she collected stitch and NBC. as a family we collect annual pass pins or anything that we think we need which if you ask my husband it is everything.

I'm also looking for pins associated with Germany, in honor of my heritage, and Donald Duck, my favorite Fab Five member. I have a memento collection of pins, which just reflect where I've been, tours I've been on and stuff like that. For those I have tendency towards pins with the classic, black-and-white Mickey because I love that version and vintage cartoons like that.

My actual collection is of pins based on Disney's Jules Verne-based films and attractions, but only the ones with Disney characters on them (minus a few exceptions). As one might glean from my signature, I love Victorian Science Fiction and Jules Verne in particular. Disney's adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was one of the things that got me back into Disney as an adult, after I had given up on Disney during my cynical teenage years.

The collection itself started incidentally, after I went to Tokyo Disneysea. One of the areas in Disneysea is based on 20,000 Leagues and pretty much the only souveniers available for it were pins. That was in 2009 and I hadn't done much with building this collection until our trip to Disneyland USA in May 2012. In seeing so many people with lanyards and managing a trade for a pin of Stitch riding the Astro-Orbitor, I decided to take the plunge. Keeping to the Disney characters was a conscious choice to help limit how many I would have to go on the hunt for, and because I like that mixing of the Verne concepts with cartoony style. For all intents and purposes this collection is now done, though my girlfriend and I are going to Paris this May. I know there's a new pin coming out for the Nautilus attraction there that I'll pick up if it's available.

I've thought about whether I want to start another collection, but I don't think I'm financially prepared for it. The next most likely option wold be the Haunted Mansion, because that was the other thing that got me back into Disney, but there are just SO many pins that it's very intimidating. If I do I might follow the same strategy of limiting it to ones with Mickey and Co. but for now I'm staying with what I've got.

Myself, I collect Minnie Mouse and Cheshire Cat. I also like to collect vintage Disney pins. With significant dates for myself. Plus, the older disney pins, when the Pin Trading first started. I just finished collecting all the PODM's. I sure am glad that's finished. I am looking forward to trading at the DLR this year. If you ever visit the LGM, I hope we can meet. Best Wishes!

I haven't had much of a chance to start growing my collection yet, but I know what I'll be looking for in the future. Mainly I'm interested in collecting pins with favorite characters of mine, namely The Beast, Jane Porter, Fauna, Duchess, Morph and Jim Hawkins. I'd also really like to collect the WDI pressed pennies, as I've also been collecting pressed pennies for quite a while now, and I think it'd be fantastic to have a group of pressed penny pins to go along with that.

I collect Aladdin because it's my absolute favorite movie. I love the characters, the chemistry between Aladdin and Jasmine, The Genie, and pretty much every character in the series (if you include the cartoon and the other two movies). I also collect Tangled (it's another one of my favorites), The Aristocats, Kingdom Hearts, and Treasure Planet.

I also collect Jessica Rabbit because for some reason I looked up to here when I was a kid :'D She's just way too cool and sultry and awesome.

Oh, and I collect pins that are in an iconic art style (art deco, poster parodies, etc.) because I'm an illustration major and jfasdklfal;gheirirejklafd pretty art <3

I have a few different collections, because I just love everything Disney! My "main" focuses however are:

Brave: This film has a great sentimental meaning to me. My mom and I are all each other has, and the relationship between Elinor and Merida is just so realistic and beautiful, that it really rings a chord with me. Merida is definitely my second favorite, if not my favorite princess. I think she is beautiful, strong, realistic, and a great role model for children. She is also misjudged a lot, which makes me love her more!

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit: I adore Oswald, and find him to be a fascinating part of Disney history. I think his legacy needs to be cherished and documented (and therefore...collected!). I'm actually quite Oswald obsessed. Half of my wardrobe is of the blue-short-clad-rabbit.

Pocahontas: My favorite/second favorite princess (Merida and her go back and forth!). I love everything she does, everything she stands for, and everything she is. She is a phenomenal character; one of the strongest female leads I have ever seen! Not to mention she is drop-dead-gorgeous, and the score from the movie holds sooo many morals its not even funny. Sadly I only have one lonely Pocahontas pin at the moment.

Stitch: This little guy is just so fun to collect! Not to mention he's heartwarming. I think everyone can learn a little lesson from Stitch! My favorite pins of him are his invasions of other Disney films, him dressed as other characters, or just heartwarming moments from the movie (him reading his book in his box bed haha). I have about 5 Stitch pins currently, but I hope to expand this soon!

Princesses/leading ladies: Because I love all of them.

Gaston: No one has amazing pins like Gaston

Peter Pan: I have 0 Peter pan pins, but I would love to start collecting it. I love the film a LOT more than I should. It embodies childhood and maturity in a delicate way that I just can't get enough of!!
