Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
That is expected but then again not everyone will go rushing in to buy Aurora at high prices on the secondary market, I have a feeling that the secondary market will get flooded with Auroras and as a result it will drive her price down. If Ariel, Eric and Ursula are selling for less than $200 I would imagine Aurora would be the same.

I think you will find that even if she sells out very quickly she will be up on the secondary market and will probably sell for only around $200 at most initially before slowly increasing as a result of fewer dolls being on the market. By the way dont forget that the market is still full of Tinker Bells and Zarina's they just did not sell very well on the secondary market and right now you can buy one for less than $100 which isnt too bad at all.

The one who I think will be harder will definitely be Maleficent, I think she may go up to the $300 price right away.

It is all about supply and demand, yes the dolls may sell out fast and yes they may get listed at ridiculous prices but that does not mean that they will sell. Just because the Frozen dolls sold for such a high price that does not mean that will be the case for the others as well. I mean even after the Frozen hype you have some dolls like Cindy, Ariel and Wedding Rapunzel that are not breaking the bank to buy.

Then again that will also depend on what the doll looks like and if it is executed well or not.

Excellent points, and I really do hope I am wrong. and who knows, Disney may just bump the numbers up which will mean more people will get a fair chance at owning them. But until we know more it's all going to be speculation. As for me, I just want Maleficent and because she will more than likely be the harder to get of the two I am planning my attack now!

I think it will be LE 5,000 or at the very most LE 6,000 but nothing more than that, especially since Disney bases the LE size on the popularity of the character.

I actually think that you are right about the scalpers, they will definitely be buying the dolls and listing them on the market. Not sure how long you have been collecting the dolls and if you were collecting prior to the Frozen hype but what usually happens is that they tend to flood the secondary market and because of this influx in dolls people can drive the price. Again it is not the scalpers that drive the price but the buyers. I think you will find some scalpers will probably list her around the $500 mark and other around the $250 mark. Then you will have those that will list them for auction, the auctions will probably get you around the $200 early $200 mark and that will probably set the benchmark for a while before people start paying $250 for her and so. Then you will also have the preordered listings who will probably list items for around $300+

Either way I think people keep panicking that Frozen has changed doll collecting but in my honest opinion I do not think it has, I think Frozen is a blip and yes the current dolls released have gone up in price because there are fewer available on the secondary market as most of them start making their way to collectors homes but those that are upcoming or just recently released are so fresh and new to the market that it shouldn't be hard to find a better deal for Aurora.

Again it comes down to supply and demand which is economics 101. If people panic and pay $500 up for Aurora out of fear that they cannot get her for less then of course this will inflate the price of the doll. But I dont think this will happen. As you mentioned Aurora is just not that popular enough compared to other characters so you should be fine to get her at cost. Maleficent will be harder but shouldnt be too bad to get either.

It's absolutely 100% supply and demand and it definitely falls on the buyer as much as the seller. I am a doll collector in general - different types not just disney - and have gotten a few of the LEs in the past (Mostly just the ones I like) so the ebb and flow of the doll world isn't new to me. Perhaps it's just that the Frozen deal is just very in-your-face that it becomes hard to ignore. Other doll lines I have collected go through the same thing - the market floods and then recedes but there have been times were it floods and doesn't come down for a while. You just never know.

But you are right, we will more than likely see the market saturate and calm down again. Gotta say, Polaris, from some of your others posts I've read you always seem to hit the nail on the head! Good to have such a knowledgeable collector around!

LOL thanks Sweet Cheshire! I am a die hard collector and try stay on top of things especially since I am disadvantaged from living in Australia. I just did up a "Disney" budget last week and with flights, hotels, spending money and the cost of upcoming dolls and merchandise I am forecasting to spend about $20k on my Disney habit :(. I guess I wont be saving for a house this year!

With devotion like that Mickey should be rolling out the red carpet and giving you full access to Cinderella's Suite! Haha! :)

Soooo bummed out that they didn't make 17" Mulan she was my favorite DISNEY "PRINCESS" out of the whole princess line. I thought she would look amazing in her outfit! :(:(:cry::cry:

They probably will make a LE doll for her eventually, she does have an anniversary coming up soon so I would expect something to come out around then.

I think next year will be Jasmine's year (since Aladdin is expected to come out on bluray) and then maybe Mulan/Pocahontas the year after. Surely Disney will have to release a Mulan and Pocahontas or else the princess line will never be complete in terms of LE dolls.

When it comes to scalpers, I hope the fairy dolls taught them a lesson. That not all these doll will sell like crazy  the amount if people selling their tinkerbell right after the release were just stupid

I really hope you guys are right and Aurora won't be popular, then I might have a chance to get her :)
But...I'm just asking, because this hasn't come up in the discussion about demand/price yet: What about Maleficent? With the movie being released just a few months prior people will know who Aurora and Maleficent are, Disney will probably advertise the new classic movie release and if the movie is popular the LE classic dolls will probably be sought after, wouldn't they? :-/

I think your train of though is similar to what scalpers would think in terms of the LE dolls. (Not saying you are a scalper but is something that scalpers would think to justify why they would buy lots more dolls hoping that people will react towards the movie in a similar manner as they did for Frozen).

I think every year people always freak themselves out with these releases and as a result come up with so many reasons why things could go wrong. Which is fair enough because the more we want something the more we worry when we know there is a threat towards getting it.

personally I think you will be fine so long as if you are online on release day. People need to stop comparing the doll releases to Frozen. These dolls were around much long than frozen was.

My my predication is that yes the movie may compliment the movie but it is very different to the original so there could be just as much a negative effect as there would be a positive one. Also Maleficent is aimed more towards young adults/adults and not kids therefore I do lot think that the merchandise hype will be as big as frozen. Besides it is a live action film so it is unlikely that this movie will have a huge impact on the blu ray merchandise release later this year mainly.

No worries, totally get what you mean!
And yes, I totally freak as I was "lucky" enough to experience the March Frozen Doll disaster in Europe first hand :( So I'm just scared I won't get Aurora as well. Stupid thing is, I'm in London the day they're released with no internet connection! I have no idea how I'm going to get them/if I should try to get them in London from a DS there (don't know how many they get, which store gets them and at what time I have to queue to have a chance).

I hope you're right and people who like the Live Action movie won't be as interested in the classic dolls.

Does anyone think maleficent will get a higher edition size than Aurora?Usually the princess will get more than the villian but in this instance Maleficent is more popular than Aurora. They could do 5000 maleficent and 3000 Aurora or something.

I´m sure Aurora will get the higher edition size, as she is in the Princess line and well known. The villains always have the lower edition size...

Just a thought I was thinking if they ever remade Snow White earlier personally I would love a Snow White that looked more like her instead of the one we have which to me looks like a more mature version of Snow. Does anyone prefer any of the remade characters? I.e coronation Elsa, wedding Rapunzel? I am tempted to get wedding Rapunzel to go along side my blonde one but you never really hear any one talk about the wedding one.

I just got the wedding one yesterday! I don't have the blonde Rapunzel as she is too expensive, but I don't understand why bride Rapunzel is so underhyped. She's really, really beautiful and well made! So if you have some spare money definitely get her :)

I agree that Maleficent is more popular, but I doubt they will do a higher size for her than Aurora. Princesses always get the higher number while the villains get the lower numbers, and Aurora is still a popular princess. I am expecting Maleficent to get a higher number than the past villains though :).

Like many others have said it is very highly unlikely that the villain will be a higher edition than the princess as these dolls originated with the princesses. Also there are some die hard Aurora fans out there. I mean Tiana was not a super popular princess and yet they still released 5,000 of her so it is unlikely that they would reduce it for a classic princess.

I do agree that Maleficent is a popular villain, she was the fastest selling designer villain so I would probably say that she will have a higher LE size, just not sure if Disney will increase it something like 4,000-5,000 or if they will just increase her by 500 to 3,000 only.

I am interested to see if they do release a prince Philip this year, if they do then that will mean that next year we could possibly be getting two male dolls, Aladdin and Jafar which would give us the first ever male villain doll which would be pretty cool.

The doll is actually made to look like her classic disney character not the newer redesigned princesses hence why she has the softer features which is funny because Cinderella is made to look like her redesigned princess as opposed to her classic one which is a shame. I actually really like the Snow White LE and think it is one of the best due to its more classic look which actually works really well for her as opposed to the look they gave her in the designer fairytale doll, there she looks very young, almost too young when lined up against the other princesses.

There actually hasn't been any remade characters yet as all the dolls were released during a period in which their movie was still being marketed by Disney, some characters just have more than one doll based on their popularity, that started with Rapunzel and was followed by Merida and the Frozen sisters.

All the dolls originally had a doll released with their bluray release but then Rapunzel had the short Ever After which resulted in the creation of the wedding Rapunzel doll which is the largest in terms of LE edition size of 8,000 (I think that at this point in time Disney thought that the dolls were becoming popular due to Rapunzel's original release doll selling out faster than her predecessors hence why they increased the LE size). But the problem was 8,000 was just too much which resulted in Wedding Rapunzel being available for almost half a year and even longer in the UK, even though she did sell out faster in the US a majority of this was to scalpers and as a result the secondary market was flooded with the doll which made it possible to actually buy the doll at less than cost on some occasions. I think the Wedding Rapunzel was really an example of over-saturating the market thus killing the hype for the doll which is really unfortunate because the doll is amazing, the detail on her wedding dress is just amazing. Both Rapunzel dolls were done very well though as there is a lot of detail in her dress on both occasions. I think one thing that hindered the sales of the wedding Rapunzel doll was the fact that she had short hair, whereas Rapunzel is always associated with having the long hair, I mean her whole story and the character itself is renowned for having long hair.

Even if we don't get a Prince Phillip doll, I am expecting there will be three dolls next year for Aladdin. Disney likes to go all out in terms of both limited and mass release merchandise during years they have D23 Expos. That is usually why they save their biggest Diamond Edition releases for the D23 years. Plus, it wouldn't make sense to have just a Jasmine and Jafar doll, the standard Princess and Villain release, when Aladdin is the main character of the movie and even in the title. If Phillip isn't released and a Aladdin is, then I think its safe to say that Disney plans on releasing three dolls for each D23 year if we are going by the last one and the 2015 one.

Personally I don't see Phillip being made which is a shame as Phillip and Flynn are my favourite male disney princes and the only two I would be interested in. But I don't think Phillip is that popular is he? I think if we get 3 dolls for sleeping beauty it's more like to be Aurora in pink and then another in blue and a Maleficent but it might just be two for that release. I do kind of want a Phillip though although at least we will get a designer version of him. I just hope he looks better than Eric if they do him.
While I'm unsure if we will get Phillip I would say it's much more likely we will get Aladdin as he is the main character. Ooh I hope they do a Jafar he would be one that could look amazing!

They don't always release a villain doll so I wouldn't assume that they were going to release a Jafar. Whilst it would be likely Aladdin just so happens to be the first movie that actually has a male villain in the line up since the villains were created into dolls (the first was Mother Gothel) prior to that Belle and Tiana who both have male villains did not have the antagonists for their movies made into dolls. So it will be interesting to see if Disney does decide to do a Jafar doll. Also I would not assume that Disney would release three dolls just because it is a D23 event because they actually didnt release any dolls at all during the expo, they just previewed it. I would say they did Eric because he is popular and TLM was popular as a movie overall. I would say for Aladdin they would definitely have to do Aladdin as he is the main character of the movie as opposed to Jasmine but that being said Jafar is not as popular as say Ursula and Maleficent and we all know that male dolls generally do not do as well, especially if they are villains, so we may find that even if they were to do a Jafar doll that he would probably be dropped to a 1,500 LE size. Similar to Lady Tremaine (who again was not such a popular villain).

Also I am not entirely sure if Aladdin is confirmed to be the bluray diamond edition for fall release next year, there has not been a confirmation from Disney yet, whilst I believe it is highly likely it is still based on speculation and nothing has been confirmed yet.

Based on how fast Eric sold out, I'd say it's more than likely that we'd get a Phillip.

I'm like 90% sure that well get Aladdin next year because he his the most popular Disney prince and male character. Plus, the movie is named after him. And I'm also 99.9% sure he'll be in in his Prince Ali outfit.

But here's where it gets interesting... Are we going to see a Gene LE doll? :p

I'm sure that they will.
Disney saves the princess movies for the Fall
to capitalize on the Christmas rush.

Yes that is true, but they did release Lion King in the fall after they did BATB, so there was that gap which was filled in with the Rapunzel/Alice dolls. So it is not always the case that there will be a princess movie released in the Fall. They generally will release the popular films that did well financially in the fall (ironically these popular films tend to mostly be princess films) but yes I do agree that it is very likely that it will be Aladdin. Although Aladdin has had many changes to it's release date and was never originally part of the platinum line up so that is also the reason why it was unsure if it would make the diamond edition line up.
