A scrapper pin that I can love

So, I was at Disneyland resort about two days ago and was looking at one of the pin boards. I saw a toddler Mulan pin on one of the boards and asked the lady if I could see it. To my dismay, it revealed a sharp, snaggle edge and upon closer inspection, Mulan's eye was severely slanted in an almost vertical fashion. I no longer have the heart nor bravery to tell CMs that they have scrapper pins on their lanyards or boards because more than once I've gotten a stink eye from CMs and disappointed looks when I have mentioned it, so I just stopped. Now, I politely just say, "No thanks" or "Hmm...that's really nice but I'll keep my pin". In this case, I said, "She's really cute but I just don't think I can quite bear to part with my pin at this moment". To my shock, the CM took the Mulan pin off her board and held it out to me and mouthed, "Take it". The kindness of this gesture floored me. Even though I knew it was a fake pin, having it suddenly warmed my heart. What a nice thing for her to have done. I smiled like a big old idiot and thanked her and said, "I'm going to City Hall right now and leaving you a compliment!" and now she was the one who looked surprised. She thanked me twice and I left and did just that. My grandmother pointed out that maybe she knew it was fake and that's why she didn't care about giving it away but I like to think that it was just a CM doing something genuinely nice to brighten a guest's day. So I now have her in my pin book, my one and only scrapper pin, and looking at her makes me smile, snaggle edge and crooked eye and all

Edit: Also wanted to add that I will never trade her (in part because I don't trade scrappers). To me, she's a symbol of a kind deed someone did for me so scrapper Mulan stays with me always!

What a cool story! That's a scrapper you can look at without feeling disgust, and that's a good (and rare) thing!
 
Thanks everyone. I just wanted to share because I think sometimes it's easy to get bogged down by the bad pin trading experiences (especially involving fake pins) so I just had to share a positive one
 
sweetheart cast members are allowed to give out pins like that its just not publicizes bc cast members are supposed to create "magical memories" for guests. I am more than certain the cast member did it of magic and not malice. Cast members when they know about pins being fake they will remove them from their lanyard.

Actually no, we aren't allowed to give them away unless we have more then 12 on our lanyard. Or more then 30 on a board.

Bringing in damaged or lanyards without the full 12 pins results in a 7$ fee for each pin 'lost'.


How do we get 12 or more? Either find them on the ground OR bring extra. It was more then likely from to good of her heart.
 
Ah that's a truly nice moment and thank you for sharing it!! I think the Cast Member wanted to make you happy and didn't realize that it was a scrapper pin! So good to hear that the Disney Magic is still alive and well!! Take care, *bjr
 

Oh my gosh, I hope that by giving that compliment at city hall that I didn't accidentally cause her a fee!

I wouldn't worry about it, Aquata! I'm sure her saying thank you for giving the compliment was heartfelt, and maybe as Romancing_Train said she brings in extra pins or found an extra pin to replenish what she gave away in generosity. That was so sweet of her to do for you and what a kind experience! Thanks so much for sharing!

Oh no! Her compliment will actually go in a record of sorts for her! She'll also get a mention on the board in her head quarters for which ever place she works!

It's more like for people constantly giving away/losing pins. It's kind of more or less to stop cast members or to discourage them from stealing them themselves.


A friend of mine met a family that saved for 10 or so years, from the time there son was born, to bring him to Disneyland at least once. They didn't have much money with them, and the boy wanted to pin trade so bad that my friend GAVE the boy his whole lanyard! They gave him a compliment too and nothing bad happened just a 'don't do that thing EVERYDAY' xD!

Sometimes, not always...

Nice story, I've seen it happen before and have experienced it myself, and no, the CM won't get in trouble for giving *a* pin away! :wiggle:

I'm glad you went to City Hall to give a written compliment. I've done that before, I feel good about doing it, because I know it *does* go on their record, and probably most people go to City Hall to complain, not compliment (not that I have proof of that)!
