Hey there Princes and Princesses,

To me, being a completist is equivalent to becoming the pokemon master of pins. You're collecting all there is from a movie, animated short, character, object, animal, etc that at times seems impossible to do. I have recently decided to embark on a completist journey. I'm coming up to the one year mark of my pin trading life and want to challenge myself for the next year!

I am determined and motived to collect all the pins from the movie Princess and the Frog. A couple of questions to the completists out there:


  • What have you/have attempted to complete in the past?
  • How hard was that collection to complete?
  • Any tips for a beginning completist that you could pass down?

I hope to come to you one day with a complete PATF collection. Until then....

Ill never be a completist in lion king, but I'm only:
Pin 86113: DSF - Lion King - Rafiki holding up Simba
Pin 86114: DSF - Mufasa & Zazu

Away from owning all th lion king pins that came out at DSF that day! If anyone can help do let me know :bigthumb:
 
By no means an I an Ariel completist! (I wish!)
but I have ((almost)) every Frankenweenie.
My suggestion is be a completist of something that's coming out that you like. Take frozen for example. When pins are made of that it will be easier to collect obviously. The Japan Disney pins are always the worse to get (still don't even have the Frankenweenie pin of that :/ ) so try and get your character from there first!
 
I am determined to be an up! Completist....I'm nearly in single figures for pins I need to complete my collection....it's been so hard but fun too....good luck on your quest!

Toy Story Midway Mania, Carsland, a few hiddem mickey sets, Year 2 PODM's

How hard was that collection to complete?

Toy Story Midway Mania and Carsland pins took close to a year to complete. Some were rather expensive and others just not available for trade or purchase.

Any tips for a beginning completist that you could pass down?

Try not to pick a character/subject that has 1000's of pins in the group, pick only one or two and concentrate on those and try not to obsess about it to much .... patience is key.

Have fun with it ... I collected the WDI - DLR-DCA Attraction - Radiator Spring Racers 9 pin set and only displayed the pins in my shadow box as I actually got to ride that particular vehicle ... it took 6 months and 31 rides on RSR to get on all 9 cars.

I'm a Mad T Party completist... I didn't think of it in those terms at first, I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the Mad T Party band, it's like the whole show was made just for me! So I pounced on every pin I could find, until I found them all. It wasn't too hard, though; they don't have a huge number of people wanting them, like, say, Tangled.

...or like the other thing I decided to become a completist on, which is Brave. That's a whole lot harder, and I may never actually do it (especially since they'll be making pins at a much faster rate than Mad T Party pins), but it's fun to have something to wish for.
 
When I start a set, I pretty much have to have ALL of them! I'm only 3 pins away from owning all of the Disney Dreams Collection pins... as you can see in my siggy. You just have to be patient, which is extremely difficult for me!

Every Jessica Rabbit pin made during official pin trading, completed in 2012. I also casually attempt doing the same with Duffy.

How hard was that collection to complete?

Very hard. It took 6 years and a lot of time, effort, and money. And patience to wait for a handful of pins to show back up...sometimes years.

Any tips for a beginning completist that you could pass down?

-Don't start if you don't have the money for it. That wave of Jessica pins in 2007/2008 almost killed me.

-Know what you're getting into, as far as rarity is concerned. I had no idea how rare some of Jessica's pins were when I told myself I could do this. Fortunately, it worked out for me in the long run, but high rarity could deep six you.

-Grab stuff when it first comes out...you don't want prices spiking high on you later.

-Don't be too desperate...know what a pin is worth, and if someone tries to screw you, pass on it. Chances are good that it will come around again, and sometimes for a much better price (this happened to me several times...I was downhearted, then later, pin + discount!).

-Don't start anything with characters that have lots of pins (like someone advised above). Princess and the Frog should be manageable.

-Do invest in good traders, but don't go overboard...you'll need that money for your collection, after all. Get popular characters or series with broad appeal. Although I collect Tinker Bell and Jessica, my best trader is Stitch, hands down.

-Watch eBay like a hawk. Sometimes it's easier to just buy rather than trade (especially when you take shipping and how much you spent on your trader into consideration). And if you get a good deal, you actually save money.

-Get your pin trading friends to help you with looking out...once people knew about my mission, I had some folks helping me out 'cause they knew what I was doing, introducing me to traders and etc.

I only have one pin collection I consider complete at this time, and that is my Mulan and Fa Zhou collection, with a total of four pins! These four pins cost me a lot of money, though, almost $200!! I probably overpaid for one of them, the one I just crossed off in my signature, but the sentimental value is worth more to me than the dollars. I am so, so happy to complete this collection, however. It is really gratifying, I set out to get these four pins, and I did it.

I am aiming to complete my Brave collection, someday. I am pretty close right now. I'm just missing a couple DSF pins, the Pixar Mystery collection pins, the PTN, and of course the Elinor Pendant...lol. Something tells me I will never truly have a complete Brave collection however, because of this rare pin. But I will try my best!

I have no desire to be a completist in any of my other collections. There are some pins in those collections that I think are just plain horrendous. And I could never in a MILLION years be a Stitch completist lol...its just not possible!
 
I'm a small scale completest... I don't go after ALL the pins of a particular film or ride or character, but I will look to complete smaller sets within a certain theme. For example, the one I had the most difficulty with was a series featuring Mickey and Co. as characters from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was very easy for me to find Goofy as Prof. Aronnax and Mickey as Captain Nemo, but the last one I needed - Chip and Dale as Nautilus crewmembers - was virtually impossible! I made another set easy on myself and just bought the whole 20,000 Leagues starter set (with Mickey and Co. in diving suits). I don't have the money or inclination to be a completest on, say, ALL 20,000 Leagues pins (a lot of them I don't even like), but working on smaller sets within that theme gives me a nice goal that can actually be accomplished.

In the past I have tried being a completionist for the following:
- Pudge
- Underrated Characters
- Charlotte
- Vanessa
- Stitch As Other Characters

Nowadays I am trying to be a completionist of:
- Ursula and Vanessa Mirror pins

Currently I am a completionist of:
- Sugar Rush
- Helga Sinclair

For the 2 collections I am a completionist of, fairly easy. Both collections are either new or have very few pins in them (Helga Sinclair only has 1 pin like Charlotte :lol

- Start with the hardest ones first (if you can get the hardest, it only gets easier plus if you ever decide to quit, you have great traders)
- The newer the release the better
- Narrow down the collection (try to limit it to as small as possible to make sure all the pins you get you really like)
- Focus on subgoals (if you start trying to be a Little Mermaid completionist let's say, that's crazy, where do you start? Start with just one character and work your way up, makes things more organized and easier for your goals)
- BE PATIENT (with so many pins it is easy to drop a lot of cash on pins, they will come around again)
- Set up parameters (make sure you understand which pins are in your collection and which pins aren't. Does someone being dressed up AS Ariel count as LM or is it ONLY ones that are directly from the movie? etc.)
 
I'm a completest with only specific characters more than movies...although I'm trying for some movies.
i can proudly and officially say I own ever Vanessa pin ever made so far and every individually made pascal pin so far. Very proud of those completions. Still working on my Pocahontas, brave, and tangled collections. But it is true if you want to be a completest always aim for the high pins first, BUT always go for any pins that cross your path on your journey to get the hard pins. I've made the mistake of over looking easier pins in the past cause I figured I could get them later ad then when I'm ready to get them either they're nowhere ti be found to trade for or sometimes as flukes they become a super sought after pin. ( like stupid Pocahontas beloved tales...took me forever to get that pin) haha

That just makes me sad, as cast members are not suppose to sell costume pieces, or give them away, even when they leave the company.

I am definately a Pinocchio completist, Ive got all the Pinocchio pins listed on Pinpics. Since completing that collection I have moved onto collecting other pins that I think are beautiful or just appealing, but I wont extend being a completist to anything else. Every time a new Pinocchio pin comes out, its a must have, not because I necessarily like the pin, but because, how can I not get it, when I have every other Pinocchio pin. So in a way its now a bit of a curse lol!

Ive been collecting pins for 17 years, tt probably took a good twelve of those years to complete the collection, and then I have since been adding the new releases to it. It wasnt until I had internet access that this hobby literally took over my life. Then I was able to surf the net every day looking for purchases or trades. I never missed a day, because knowing my luck, thats when someone would post that one rare pin I was after!

Nowadays though, I'm trying to chill out more and speed more time with my family instead, but its very difficult to avoid the call. It only takes one pin trade or purchase to drag me back under!! hehe!
 
I am a Pocahontas, BATB (eek I know :|) and Bolt completist... Also adding ratatouille to my set of pins I want.

I'm not where near on any of those collections though! But I love hunting out the pins and I love ticking them off on pin pics! I'd love to own every Pocahontas and BATB pin ever made! It's gonna be a challenge though!

Bolt and ratatouille not so much as there isn't that many pins from those movies!

I am desperately hoping I can collect all the frozen pins as I am SO excited for this movie!! And being able to start the collection from the beginning is so exciting as I might be able to be a completist for it! Just gotta hope that some lovely person might be able to pick up the park and DSF pins for it :lol:
 
Oh I forgot about one. I'm also a completist for Administrative Professionals Day/Secretary's Day pins! I've only got a few more to go now... again that's a collection where they haven't made tons of them. On the other hand there are also a few that I just don't have matches to the people trading them...
 
The signature says it all-FIGARO and I am still trying to complete them all. I have strayed and dabble in completist Si & Am, Mittens from Bolt, Ivan from Peter and the Wolf (1 away) and Chandu.

Just collect what you like. Depending on the character, it could take a very long time and alot of $$$$$$$$$. Obscure characters can also prove very difficult.
 
I want to be a PatF completist too!! The only problem... Which is a pretty big problem is that there 2 PatF pins that are LE 25. So the way I see it is that I will try to collect em all except those two. I know that will never happen for me. Lol
 
I want to complete the WDI Mystery Sorcerer Hat collection and the Peter and the Wolf pins. I have the easiest P&tW ones, and am just diving in to the more difficult ones.
 
There are no 'easy' pins, so don't pass on a good deal (trade/buy) as they are hard to come by. Focus on a few at a time (a mixture of not so rare pins and a really rare pin) so you're slowly reaching your goal. If it gets you stressed out (it will!), just pause and take a look at your collection so far and smile
