Hey all, this is my first post here, yet I've been keeping an eye on this forum for info for so long. Woot Woot!
Now to business. :I
This is what *I* want to see this year. Personally, I don't really care to collect the princesses. They are great and all, yeay hooray, lovely, but after their movie is out and about...they sort of enter the "oonnee ooff uuss" and "pretty princess" mode. I collect and adore the Disney Villains. I LOVE them so much. They are first introduced in their movie and simply steal the show. Sure, I'd love me some Naveen, but I'd rather burst in to flames, wear lavish and glorious garments, and rule by my own rules.
The villains are so vast and are so unknown. To quote the musical Wicked, "Are people born Wicked? Or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?" I LOVE the villains because of the psychology that is behind them, the levels of motivation, and all the glorious (untapped) potential they have. Going a step further, until last year, there really were no villain merchandise. It was like an after thought if you found them anywhere. The princess merchandise has become a dime a dozen and anywhere you look. The villains, nope. They are SO rare and, therefore, so valuable to me. I have the Mother Gothel, Queen of Hearts, and Lady Tremaine 17" dolls and just love them.
That's my (condensed) ranting and raving about why I LOVE the villains and why these 17" dolls what I want to see this year (and eventually).
Wicked Queen (Surprise Release)
(This is supposed to be the 75th Anniversary of Snow White. They released the Snow White doll for the blue ray, why not the one originally the fairest in the land during the anniversary? In crazy doll collector mentality, they "owe" us the companion piece to Snow White. In reality, it just makes sense. It's the anniversary, people would be in an angry riot if they released the same or a new Snow White, and it really does seem to be the "season of the villain".
Captain Hook (Surprise Release when the Blue Ray comes out)
(Come on. The trend of the villain appearing along side the hero will hopefully continue. Sure, the boys get forgotten by Disney and therefore don't really get the spotlight. But...I would dare the Disney company to provide me with more than one reason an LE Captain Hook doll wouldn't sell out. The only valid reason being that they did a horrible job in creating it...but I still think a bad job at creating him as a doll would still sell out. Plus, they really could use the same rolls of fabric they've used for the 3 currently released villains to create his outfit, hat, and hair. All they'd need to invest in would be a new body mold, head mold, metal scraps, shoes, and feathers and...BAM! He could be created and should be.)
Wicked Witch (Released sometime with either the movie in theater or the movie on Blue Ray)
(Now, this movie has nothing to do with the musical Wicked and *technically* doesn't have a real connection to the MGM Wizard of Oz. It is supposed to be a "prequel" of sorts that tells the story of how the Wizard came to be, but MGM makes sure everyone knows that they own the rights to the first movie with Judy Garland. Even with all that being said...Disney would be a huge fool not to try to profit on this character. People that aren't really Disney fans would want a Wicked Witch doll from this Heirloom Collection. Even as I type this, I feel like it would be a stretch. Not just because she kind of doesn't belong with the other "Disney Villains" and because she's so attributed to a totally different franchise and universe...but because of the fact that she would have an actress's likeness. If the rumors are true, Amy Adams is why we don't have Giselle anywhere. She argued that Giselle was based on her likeness, so therefore she was owed a percentage of profit for all the merchandise. Sure, they are creating the "Disney Movie Collection" and hopefully created a new rule in the contract stating something that gets them out of that problem...but still. I want one, but I feel she's not that likely.)
Ursula (Surprise Release when the Blue Ray comes out)
(Again, she's a no brainer when it comes to a villain that people would buy up in a heart beat. She would be an absolute beast to box, but so worth it. Plus visually, she'd be a fantastic break from all the sea of reds that the current villains are wearing. Now, I know a lot of people are saying they'd love to see a Vanessa and how rare and different that would be. I don't deny that in the slightest. But really? Could you imagine your collection with Ursula as Vanessa? I think it would be too much of a break and an oddity. Plus, she only has two possible outfits really: the peasant dress and the wedding dress. Neither fit the iconic "image" of Ursula. I hope they perch her in her box in all her glory, tentacles twisted, (ideally) Flotsam and Jetsam draped across her shoulders like a shall, the flowing hair, the purple skin, and that great big grin. If she doesn't fit...then get creative. She'll fit.)
The Snow Queen (Screw it, announce her.)
(The concept art just looks gorgeous. To not create her just seems like a huge waste of time and profit.)
And as for the hopefully soon...
Jafar (Surprise Release 2014)
(The classic doll looks like a flop. BUT! That one is ideally for a child's playtime and not an adult's "pretty pretty collection". So, I think it was a success in it's own right. But a Jafar in this Heirloom collection quality? That would be GLORIOUS!!
Maleficent *CARTOON VERSION* (Good Lord Hopefully Soon! Maybe Angelina's movie will push the doll creators to make the cartoon one as a reminder of the first incarnation?)
(Honestly, I feel like the world will hear the running footsteps of fans to the stores and the fans online clicking their keyboards for her. She's my ultimate goal and will be my center piece WHEN they finally release her. I just hope and pray that they make her gown-robe correctly. It's basically supposed to be a HUGE "poncho" with tons and tons of fabric. I want a Maleficent doll released for this Heirloom collection SO VERY MUCH! And, if I like the new movie...then maybe an LE version, but I'm fine with just a new classic doll added to the "Disney Movie Collection".)
Yzma (Random Surprise Release)
(Come on. How freaking fun and amazing would that be? They always give the dolls these exaggerated and oversized lashes...she had them. They give their garbs these elaborate and ornate liberties...she had those too. A doll of Yzma in that first outfit she was ever seen in would be so truly epic.)
Cruella DeVil (Random Surprise Release)
(Again, how absolutely stunning would that be? They could use the same skinny body mold for Yzma (or vise versa). She is the Disney Diva so focused on fashion and glamor and extravagance. So, that only means that they could create such a BEAUTIFUL doll of her.)
Hades (Random Surprise Release)
(How could he not sell out when it comes to us collectors?)
Dr. Facillier (Random Surprise Release)
(Even his box could be amazingly designed with the shadow creatures all around him.)
Narissa (Most likely never gonna happen, but oh my, she'd be a surprise)
(Considering they are creating a "Disney Movie Collection", maybe they fixed the alleged "Amy Adams Problem". Narissa was just drop dead gorgeous in cartoon form and live action. So an Heirloom doll of her...PRICELESS!)
Sure there are a lot more villains out there, but the ones I listed are the ones I really hope they create within the next few years.
And now, even though I love the Villains. There are only two non-Villains that I would LOVE to have in this quality.
The Blue Fairy
Esmeralda
Seriously, they are just such beautiful characters and there is no merchandise out there representing them! Esmeralda just brings me to tears with her song and heart, and the Blue Fairy is basically a huge heart and looks like my mother.
Yeah, that was a huge long rant and rave. If you are still here with me. I thank you.
Thoughts?
