Hey guys, they have announced the release date and cover for The 15th Anniversay Mulan & Mulan II BluRay pack. It will be available on March 12:

I will be extremely mad and angry at Disney if they skip to do a LE Mulan 17in doll. She's my favorite princess, and she's extremely beautiful, I don't think it would be fair not to do a doll of her. Lets just cross our fingers, if a regular doll would came out there would be either pictures or preorders at DisneyStore, so our only hope is that she comes as a Surprise Release :( .

Hopefully they do a Mulan doll as she is a favorite of mine too. But the Pocahontas double pack came out the same time last year and there was no LE doll released of her. Hopefully they don't do that to Mulan as well but we are just going to have to wait and see. Hopefully we do get some info soon as it has been a while now since the last doll!

Mulan is my favorite princess too. I will be so upset if they skip her but I have a bad feeling they're going to :(

I thought the dolls were "supposed to commemorate" the Diamond Edition? I hate to be a Debbie Downer...but I feel that Mulan will get the Pocahontas treatment and no doll. :/

One thing I have to say about the Mulan doll (even though I don't collect the princesses) is this: PUT THE D**N COMB IN HER HAIR! So many things from the park meet-and-greet to the little dinky figurines have Mulan's little hair-comb-barrette just magically sitting upon her head. It's like it's just standing there. They don't need to be so detailed as to have the teeth of the comb, just the little band and the flower so it looks like it's "in her hair". It's like her stylist's mentality was, "Oh, I'm gonna put this in her ha-...no...I'm tired. I'm gonna just hair spray the bejesus out of it so it just sits here."
(*drops microphone and gets off soapbox*)

Unrelated yet kinda related-ish note. Has anyone seen the sequel? I haven't...but I also think of Disney sequels as vastly inferior before I even see them. After I see them...then I mostly still feel the same way.

And you know, Pocahontas really should get more special treatment and recognition. Sure, her story has been all fantasticated and such...but she was a real life princess. AND! Even though very little of the Disney product is made in the USA, Pocahontas is the only American princess. You think they would play that up a little. I think that she is just not as marketed because she doesn't have a huge ballgown. Oh wait, there's a sequel and she does have a very big, very beautiful, very birthdaycakelike ballgown. ;) But, I still think that the LE Pocahontas should be in her more cannon dress cause it can still be tastefully blinged out AND they should have her hair "flowing" with "Colors of the Wind" accents. Would. Be. Stunning.

P.S. Before anyone says anything...Tiana. She's my favorite Disney Princess (just barely surpassing Belle). BUT! She's not an American Princess. She's an American citizen...but Naveen and his royal status are from Maldonia. So therefore she's a Maldonian Princess. So maybe she's the first Disney Princess to legally have dual citizenship? ;)

I think that Mulan will be skipped over unfortunately, but I think that Disney may release her and Pocahontas in the future as there were a lot of disappointed people when they didn't release a Pocahontas doll

The Mulan release like Pocahontas last year was US ONLY = NO LE DOLL. You'll have to wait until after Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition has it's run.

haha...I <3 Tiana and I LOVE that you added this bit at the end! :)

They did release the LE 500 Alice and Queen of Hearts, was that along with a Diamond Edition DVD also?

I'm guessing we aren't getting a LE doll for Peter Pan???? Haven't heard or seen anything anywhere. And Mulan... I have a feeling she'll be passed over as well, simply because she doesn't seem to be a top seller (as opposed to Belle, Ariel, etc.)...

For the most part, the LE dolls do commemorate the Diamond Editions, but there have indeed been deviations. From the Princess/Wonderland-themed dolls, Alice in Wonderland, The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, and Brave are all not part of the Diamond Edition line, but they received LE dolls. I think Disney started off on one foot saying that these were for the Diamond Editions, and then changed it up with Tiana as her DVD/blu-ray release was a great marketing opportunity.

So long story short, as with all things in marketing and merchandising, plans seem to have changed with this LE doll line, and (for us) it's kind of go-with-the-flow as each release comes up. When they skipped LE Pocahontas, that threw us all for a loop. LE Mulan most likely will share the same fate, seeing as how we don't even know if a LE Jasmine is due this year or next year (and what the real status of Diamond Edition Aladdin really is in the different countries of the world--right now nothing official seems available to confirm anything about it), and Jasmine is treated by Disney as more of a "core" princess than Mulan. In general, Jasmine has been receiving a lot of character-specific unique items at the Disney Store, which seems fishy to me!

I'm pretty sure the reason Aladdin is getting so much more merchandise has a lot to do with the Broadway Musical coming out soon. Also, I'm like, 95% certain that the next Disney Sephora collection will be Jasmine, meaning it makes sense for more Jasmine merchandise to be in the Disney Store right now. Given how much publicity Aladdin is getting right now, I'd be pretty surprised if there isn't a Jasmine doll released in a couple months.

Ah yes, tushay. Were they around the time the Tim Burton movie was released on Blue Ray like Tiana and Rapunzel? Maybe Alice and the Queen were a "Hey, lets see how this goes" experiment of sorts?
I remember the facebook forum was FILLED with angry international collectors because of how they were an LE of 500 and only sold in the US stores. I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging or anything, but it really does feel rather prestigious to have something that was so exclusive. They are actually why I'm really obsessed with checking the store site daily around the update time. I don't want to miss out on the next super random surprise release!

Also as a side note...anyone notice the weirdness of the site lately? They post the Oz stuff...but not all. Sgt Calhoun randomly pops back up and sells out in a day. And now all the Oz stuff is taken down...and the Designer Wicked Queen doll is back up. Seriously DisneyStore...get it together cause now you are just *toying* with us. ;)

*I know I used that joke on here already...but now it's more fitting. :P

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was a high grossing film, the animated version also has a cult status so they combined elements of the two. Others have signalled new cinematic releases although the respective dvds that follow are not Diamond, think Tangled, Brave.
Sgt Calhoun should never have been released until after WIR worldwide debut as it is not fair on those who haven't even heard of the film.
Europe only got 50 dolls.

This MULAN DVD IS US ONLY = NO LE DOLL, there isn't anything new. A new wide release feature edition isn't scheduled until after Sleeping Beauty. So looking at the worldwide release schedule she would appear after 2014, like Pocahontas. Look it up for yourself. You have a license to whine if these two do not appear after LE Aurora. Until then hush up and wait for their turn, lol.

So...wait...I'm partially confused. (I'm also too lazy to look this up anywhere online)
I know that Peter Pan is being re-released soon. February something if I remember correctly.
Is Aladdin being released sometime this year too? I read that it was pushed back to 2014...but have been reading in other forums and people seem to think it'll be re-released sometime in the summer. I dunno. All I know is that I want to be ready for them and any surprises the store may release. ;)
And finally, is it true that they cancelled the theater re-release of The Little Mermaid? I read that on a facebook page. It just would make me wonder what it means for any LE timeline if they were to pull such a popular movie from being shown in theaters.

Based on historical LE releases they have based most of them on Diamond edition releases and popular Disney movie releases. Shivatopia is right in that the release of Alice in Wonderland (the animated movie) was not a diamond release but I think the dolls were released to commemorate the release of the Tim Burton movie and the fact that the animated movie had its 60th anniversary in 2010.

and I do agree with some of the other posters on here in that there will not be a LE Mulan doll but now I am starting to wonder if there wil even be a Jasmine release. Based on this wiki http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Walt_Disney_Diamond_Editions
the release date for Aladdin is stil unconfirmed however it looks like it is part of the diamond edition lineup.

So I think we will be getting a Jasmine doll but don't know when. In the past the LE dolls were released heavily on the second half of the year with usually only being one released early in the year. Last year it was Wedding Rapunzel so my guess is that it will be a Peter Pan related doll this year. Then the Cinderella equivalent for this year will be Ariel which is pretty much a no brainer.

TinkerTigg not sure what is going on with the cinema release of TLM but here in Australia they currently have a Disney princess marathon and they are showing all the Disney princess movies at the cinemas. Irregardless if they cancel the cinema release of TLM they will still be releasing a LE doll as part of the Blu Ray Diamond edition release so we should be expecting pre orders around June like they did with Cinderella.

Okay- so we all know how information varies throughout the Disneystores, but I went to my local DS yesterday and asked some CM's/managers if they knew anything about a Peter Pan Doll. They told me that usually when an LE doll is on the horizon (for a dvd release), they get the info when the pre-order/lithographs for the movie are available. All they got were the lithos. They have heard nothing for Peter Pan, so I don't think there will be a pre-order, however my guess is that if there is a doll, it will be a surprise release.
In my dream world, it would be Tiger Lily :p

They also said that they've been getting in a lot of Jasmine stuff lately (as can be observed online as well). They didn't mention the release of Aladdin on Diamond, but I'm optimistic. So the running theory is that something is more likely for the sultan's daughter. I can't imagine Disney passing up on one of the core princesses, especially since Jasmine has always been fairly popular.

I agree with the other people theorizing that Mulan will not get an LE doll. Sad but true. Mulan and Pocahontas usually share the same fate, it seems, and most of the time they get the short end of the stick.

I hope this is helpful! Or at least gives some other collectors a little hope for the future :)

p.s. Anyone else think that maybe Disney realized that there were a ton (almost too many) doll releases last fall, so now they might be slowing the release of new dolls to build up hype? Or that they might be putting more consideration into which dolls would be more popular (since Meri/Eli set is STILL available even with a low edition size, Calhoun was available for a long time, and the villains actually went on sale)? Just a thought.

There were WAY too many dolls. I think they would do better if there were not so many, so often, and with them being so expensive most of us could only choose so many to actually buy.

I do think that they are feeling somewhat hesitant to sell even more LE dolls right now.
I feel like their "downfall" has been a combo of a slight lack in quality control and an overconfidence.
THANKFULLY, all the dolls I've ever ordered have arrived in showroom quality. (By my standards at least.) Sure there is a loose strand in my Designer Tiana doll, whatever. Sure there was a random extra plastic tie thing on my Lady Tremaine dress, a careful snip took care of that and it looks fine. But, I've read a ton of reviews/complaints from other collectors about snags and loose things and broken boxes and even stains. (I even read of someone getting a Lady Tremaine doll that didn't have the green gem on her neck.) That sort of stuff...I would be LIVID if it happened to me. So, I feel like that has some people feeling worried and or disenchanted about buying dolls.
Then, it comes down to the pricing. 100 for the 17" LE dolls, I'm committed and accepting of that. They are worth it. If they randomly make an LE doll that is an edition size of 5000 or something...then I would want a price drop because I just see that as greed. Which brings me to the Designer Villains. Their Edition sizes were double that of the princesses...yet there was a price increase. They were the same quality/standard/feel as the princesses...yet you had to pay more? If you know me, then you know I'm all about the villains. But...seeing that they were more expensive for being the "same amount of doll"...disenchantment. And, just my personal feelings, I would have LOVED a plus sized Ursula and Queen of Hearts. And then going even further...I feel like the Queen of Hearts and Mother Gothel were the only "risks" when it came to their design. Had they taken a risk with the other divas, I'd have been more on board. Going even further, I've read a ton of reviews about the Cinderella dress and the Brave combo dresses. I've never seen either in person, but I've read a TON of complaints on the designs and the fabric choices. I think Cindy looks like her dress is right after the Fairy Godmother finished transforming her dress...but that's just me.
This is me totally over analyzing everything, especially since I'm only in it for the LE Heirloom Villains, but I very much do feel that they are now "trying to calculate" what will sell out and what will collect dust in their warehouse. All I know is...I do value the dolls I chose to buy and have been lucky enough to acquire. They are stunning. As long as they keep making the Villain dolls and they remain so stunning...I'll be happy. ;D

P.S. Also...a scary thought...do you think that they could just be thinking, "Well...they haven't made us sell out of these dolls...so...they are not going to be getting any new ones!"

I think Disney is going to release more dolls. It seems to be the same schedule the past couple of years.....they release one in the spring, one in the summer, and like 500 in the fall! I'm sure we will have one coming in the next month or two. I think anyway.

They'll keep making LE dolls because they know we will buy them. Whether perfect or not, true fans of the movies will buy no matter what. I myself am a collector and have been for 20+ years but I don't flip out over a little snag or something, but that's just me. I'm grateful to have these great dolls...whether they are 100% perfect or not. True I have slight complaints as to why they change things like Cinderella's look, but we all know they are trying to appeal to the here and now so she gets updated. What can we really do about it? Marketing has a purpose. That's what doll artists like myself are for ;)
