ah sorry i had to go for a sec.
i feel like both the croods and monster U are strong contenders for the oscar.
*SPOILERS*
the croods deals with a father coming to terms with the fact that he might not be able to protect his family and the idea of self-innovation. it also deals with people in general's intrinsic fear of anything new and how sometimes being open-minded to the new is the only way to survive.
monsters u deals with characters learning that no matter how much they want something, it just might not happen and sometimes you have to change your goals/partner up. mike always wanted to be a scarer, but he ended up being an assistant to a scarer instead. even though the scarer in question is his best friend, mike's dream still basically is never fulfilled. i mean i don't really like the idea of putting this kind of message in a movie for kids, who should chase their dreams without reservation, but i feel it's a strong message regardless. also it's a nice social commentary on the current lack of *dream* jobs in the states and the academy seems to love those kind of stuff.
as for despicable me... gru ain't got no need for no oscar! he and is family made over a billion dollars in the box office!
sorry this was long and rant-ish xD
