Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
Just been to Oxford Street store, got there about 9:20am and they were already sold out. They got 15 of each doll in but had people waiting outside from 2:30am to get them!

The whole "Add to Cart" thing is a tease. Happene with Tinkerbell as well. Guessing it happens with anything. The site updates aren't immediate, I can dig that.

I've learnt some things today though.

1. Their site simlpy cannot hold. They probably underestimated the traffic. I do understand there isn't much point in catering for mass traffic for once a year situations, though. Still sad.

2. 500 for EU+UK is laughable. They either need to up to the runs to 6000 or give the US a lesser a share. They probably grossly underestimated the demand for these. Your movie generated over $1billion. Expect crazy demand on merchandise, yo!

I managed to order an Elsa before 8am (edit: 7:56). Someone posted a link on facebook and I quickly ordered, but I am not convinced it will arrive. The post was deleted so soon after, too...

I went into Oxford Circus Disney Store. I was a fraction late and all 15 sets were sold (I would have been next).

What next for me?

eBay, unfortunately. God damn eBay uggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I just called up the UK customer services and they confirmed they sold out about an hour ago :(
This.
Not saying people should stop trying, just saying people should be aware that they are officially sold out, but often errors occur and it makes it possible to buy the item, but later it's cancelled. Seen this in the US ...

Aww I know they are sold out and it's a slim chance they will be available again but doesn't hurt to try. Would you go buy Anna or wait? I keep thinking because many are disappointed their will be a lot buying from eBay so maybe I'm best to wait a week for it to die down slightly? Or just buy it now? Ebay sellers annoy me so much lol

Well at least I got a chance! Better than no orders in. It doesn't hurt to try in my opinion.

True, but just have low expectations. Very low. Situations like yours happens for many people across many retailers. Until you get a shipping note (and the product in hand), never assume you are safe.

I ordered Elsa at 7:56 and I'm not feeling very safe at all!

Was the link posted on the Disney Limited Edition Dolls page on facebook, because I was checking before and after 8am?

No, I'm not having a party over here. But I'm much more positive than a while ago with the huuuuuge disappointment..

So this is what actually happened.

I dont know if any of you are aware but right now there is a time zone difference between the US and the UK because the US is currently on daylight savings time whereas the UK is not. Now if you guys were aware the reason why the UK releases items at 8am is because 8am in the UK is 12am PST in the UK.

Which makes sense since all the Disney Store's around the world base their release on a 12am release in the US. So what this means is that since the the US has daylight savings time is that 12am in the US is now 7am in the UK. So what happened is that the items are released automatically by the system when it hits midnight in the US. But the actual website does not update until the designated time of 8am. So what was happening was that the dolls actually were available for sale from 7am (12am PST) but unless you had the early links to the page you would not be able to get to the page because it was still in the background and not available on the website even though the system had already released them for sale.

So what this means is that for those that just kept refreshing the page that would not do anything because the actual site has not refreshed and will not do so until 8am this is why everyone that tried searching and refreshing since 8am could not find it.

I found out about this last week when I tried buying the Pain and Panic pin. I noticed that I was able to find the pin a whole hour before it was actually released. I had my suspicious that it would happen again for this release and it did. So really it was a system glitch by the Disney Store because they did not take into account that the US has taken up daylight savings whereas the UK has not.

I am guessing they don't really need to update the website for this as it would time consuming to do so especially since the UK will take on daylight savings from March 30 so it will return back to normal from then onwards. I think it was just an uncanny coincidence that these dolls were released during this period wherein the US and the UK are on out of the ordinary time zones with one having DST and the other not since usually both countries take on DST around the same time.

I'm not sure this applies to all the webstores. With the Tinker Bell release I got the item# off the Spanish website where the dolls were available an hour before the scheduled release time. When searching for the number in both the German and UK webstore I got an error message until a few minutes before the dolls were officially released online.

Thank you milaya :)

Where do people get them early links, like how do you figure it out if there is no products showing yet? And what facebook pages are they posted on? I only know the Disney Limited Edition Dolls page and that's not a lot of help, I get the feeling it's some other page you are talking about?

Also, I have no idea when are today's dolls going to ship? I'm not thinking I got the doll 100% but just generally, when they send them?

When the fairies came out both countries did not have DST so what this means is that 12am PST was 8am UK as per the norm. The US changed to DST early this month (i think on the 9th of March?) so that means any releases between the 9th and 30th will be affected and this is where the LE dolls fell.

Also there can be one off situations where dolls are released earlier than normal and this is due to system glitches. This happened to SQ Elsa last year where it came out days before the official release in Sweden. So what I mentioned above applied to all web stores in general but yes there are times when there can be exceptions. Also the item numbers between the Spanish and the UK stores are actually different so using an item number from Spain will not work in the UK.

You should be ok as your order appeared to have gone through. If there was an excess in sales you will get an email about it later today. Usually before the end of the working day in the UK.

If the websites aren't updated how do people even find the early links.

i know when the tinker bell dolls came out I type in tinker bell but nothing but the normal stuff came up, but by then someone had already found the early link

Isn't there a disney store uk fb page, I am curious, even though I am not in the UK nor do I have access to buy stuff from there, how they are or if they going to address the issue

The customer service guy said 2000 people were trying to access the UK site, and that's why it was down :(

Sigh. I really wanted Elsa and my mum was kind enough to try while I was at work but the whole site went down and she couldn't get her. I told her not to worry, it's not her fault, but the disney store uk is so dissapointing.

I think they are just going to apologise but there really isnt anything they can do.

Like I said it was a glitch due to the time zones. During the next LE doll release this wont be an issue again because both countries will have DST therefore 12am in the US will be 8am again in the UK. This really was just a one off incident where the two countries weren't in sync like they usually are.

Polaris I don't think it had anything to do with time zones they were not online at 7:00am as the site was working fine then, the problem was sharing the same stock as the rest of Europe as they were bought by other countries whilst the traffic was so high in the UK (over 2000 people) it was down and by the time it was up the stock had been bought I don't think you should keep on about it when there's evidence you are wrong.

On the plus side my boyfriend got Anna in the basket, paid never got a confirmation email and then I did it and got the confirmation email!! It's true they might have oversold again but at least with the email I have something to complain about to them if it doesn't go through the fact that they said I had it and then disappointed me.

No worries you are more than welcome to believe what you want to but you should know I always post based on fact and if you would like some evidence I would be more than happy to pm you some. Congrats on getting Anna doll, I do hope you enjoy it as it is an amazing doll.

The reasoning makes sense from Polaris though. We're told 8am. So most will assume 8am and that's when traffic will be sky high. Those who managed to get it at 7am would have been few, and only if they knew what the URL was. It's how I ordered Elsa before 8am, because someone posted it on the Disney LE page.

Ultimately, things didn't go smoothly. Better accept it. That's the nature of online orders.

But accepting phone orders in brick and morter stores when they're not supposed to... one word. Deep!

Yes but we were all online at 7:00 and they weren't up if you searched the words that made up the product it would have come up but it didn't they still said coming soon no one on the UK site managed to get one until around 9:00
