Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
Yes but we were all online at 7:00 and they weren't up if you searched the words that made up the product it would have come up but it didn't they still said coming soon no one on the UK site managed to get one until around 9:00

I am UK. I managed Elsa before 8, but only because of spotting the link on Facebook, which was removed right after.

So this is what actually happened.

I dont know if any of you are aware but right now there is a time zone difference between the US and the UK because the US is currently on daylight savings time whereas the UK is not. Now if you guys were aware the reason why the UK releases items at 8am is because 8am in the UK is 12am PST in the UK.

Which makes sense since all the Disney Store's around the world base their release on a 12am release in the US. So what this means is that since the the US has daylight savings time is that 12am in the US is now 7am in the UK. So what happened is that the items are released automatically by the system when it hits midnight in the US. But the actual website does not update until the designated time of 8am. So what was happening was that the dolls actually were available for sale from 7am (12am PST) but unless you had the early links to the page you would not be able to get to the page because it was still in the background and not available on the website even though the system had already released them for sale.

So what this means is that for those that just kept refreshing the page that would not do anything because the actual site has not refreshed and will not do so until 8am this is why everyone that tried searching and refreshing since 8am could not find it.

I found out about this last week when I tried buying the Pain and Panic pin. I noticed that I was able to find the pin a whole hour before it was actually released. I had my suspicious that it would happen again for this release and it did. So really it was a system glitch by the Disney Store because they did not take into account that the US has taken up daylight savings whereas the UK has not.

I am guessing they don't really need to update the website for this as it would time consuming to do so especially since the UK will take on daylight savings from March 30 so it will return back to normal from then onwards. I think it was just an uncanny coincidence that these dolls were released during this period wherein the US and the UK are on out of the ordinary time zones with one having DST and the other not since usually both countries take on DST around the same time.

That is what I was trying to explain, the actual website doesnt refresh until 8am. But the dolls were made available for sale from 7am. So if you had a direct link to the doll page you would be able to find it because it was an active page. But the website had not been updated yet so the actual Disney Store website was not linking to the doll pages as the links were not activated until 8am. So the way to think about it is that it is sort of like the the doll pages activated so that you could buy them from 7am but were not linked to the main Disney Store UK website until 8am. But if you had the links to those doll pages you would be able to access it and buy the dolls before the entire website even refreshed at 8am.

Hope that my explanation was a little clearer LOL. If not let me know and I can try doing something up to explain it better.

Polaris did just explain that refreshing and searching through the store didn't matter, because the actual site was not refreshed yet. It's obviously just an error on Disney's side, they didn't think the timezones through (or like Polaris says, it can be too time-consuming to change the settings according to the timezones).

On subject though, I have both dolls and I've never been happier! These are my first limited dolls. I was afraid I would miss out on them because I didn't have enough money but my bf and mother helped me get them. Congratulations to everyone who could buy them! I hope the ones that couldn't can still find them through a trade or a bargain! :)

If we didn't have the links before 8:00 or disney limited edition dolls or anyone on the disney store uk facebook I doubt anyone did we only had links for a couple of european sites :/

No worries you are more than welcome to believe what you want to but you should know I always post based on fact and if you would like some evidence I would be more than happy to pm you some. Congrats on getting Anna doll, I do hope you enjoy it as it is an amazing doll.
I believe you 100% Mike!

It's such a mess and it's putting me off collecting before I even got started! Its all a bit stressful and then to end up with nothing.
£
60 a doll isn't cheap so there's no way I can afford
£
235 for an Elsa on ebay :(

"The Limited Edition Anna and Elsa dolls, released this morning, were hugely popular and sold out within minutes. The nature of limited editions does mean that not all Guests will be able to purchase, and we are sorry to those who have missed out on this release."

Amazing apology right there.

I just purchased Merida on ebay to make me feel better, I wanted Anna for £60 but no way paying ebay prices for a character who isn't one of my favourites and not too bothered about missing elsa as I already have the first one which I prefer so feeling a little better. I can why it would put people off and I do think they need to up the edition size. Now if this happened to sq elsa, maleficent or aurora I would be very upset so fingers crossed they sort it for sleeping beauty .

Wow that is almost like a slap on the face apology, it would be nicer if they sounded a bit more human. The apology just sounds too structured and cold.

I think what they need to do is part the editions a bit more evenly between the US and Europe. 500 out of 5000 is a very meager percentage. I get that the US is their "mothership" but Disney is VERY popular in Europe as well, plus there's Disney Parks and Disney Stores here too... Americans always have the best chances.

I think the issue is that with the November LE dolls we had 1000 out of the total 2500 and ours took a week to sell out, after the initial pricing issues. Obviously since then the movie has exploded in popularity (as have the LE dolls in general) but I guess Disney wanted a guaranteed fast sell out this time (however unfair it is... :-/)

Well technically the Europeans have the best chance as you can actually order from both the US and the Euro sites. But yes I can see what you mean it is an uneven split but to be honest before frozen it took ages for these dolls to sell out across the Euro sites. I mean even Tink and Zarina took a while. I just this this crazy sell out is because it is frozen and not because they are limited edition items. Also I feel like due to the mass increase in people going for these dolls that whilst there was an increase in euro buyers there seems to have been a lot of other international buyers that maybe missed the American preorder that they were for these dolls in the Euros too.

Thank you ^^' I just never know how to jump into a conversation thats been flowing (especially for almost 300 pages...) and when I do I seem to make a mess of it!! Hah. Anyways, congrats to everyone in Europe who gets their dolls today. I'm off to bed so I can be up bright and early for my Anna. Good night!!!

Don't worry, it's the same with me and I'm not even a collector. But I get as excited as everyone when there is a preorder or a release. :)

Can't wait to see some niche photos of the girls :)

Seems like next time they need to do some kind of allocation between the European online sites so that if your site is down you still get a chance of getting a doll when the site's back up again.
It did seemed a good idea that all of Europe had access to the same supply but if part of Europe is unable to access that supply on release it majorly sucks! I was left hopping frantically from site to site and have now learned the words "sold out" in multiple languages :)

My suggestion is, that Disney should start making more LE dolls, like 8000 or something and should give people the ability to pre-order those dolls and make more available for Europe. So the pre-orders won't be sold within minutes. x)

Or just do pre orders in general and then only make enough dolls for those orders. Might keep scalpers at bay as well.

But Disney did issue a large amount with the Designer Villains and those ended up on clearance!! A CM once told me that if disney made the dolls more readily available, they would not be so desired or wanted. They would end up on clearance like the rest. But I agree that there should be a larger allotment for Europe and elsewhere =)

I like this plus have cut off point of pre-orders. Some manufacturers do this for large scale/expensive models. Once the window shuts, that's it. You also pay a deposit, which may or may not be refundable. Usually non, in case you decide to back out.

I do think collecting is about the rarity of what you want to collect. I mean, it plays a part. If you could just buy everything with a snap of your finger it wouldn't be an adventure, most collectors want to find something not everyone can find. But that's my opinion. 500 dolls for Europe is ridiculous though, but some people told me that previous dolls weren't that popular in Europe, that the market for dolls isn't as big as USA's and that they didn't sell out as quickly. I think DS doesn't want to take chances in taking losses by increasing the LE size. I do think they should've given more than 500 to Europe, but USA is much bigger and more populated too. I don't think they can please everyone.

What a huge mess. I wonder what kind of "forum" people are talking about on FB in which the early "links" circulated? I kinda feel this wasn't completely legal...?

All my sisters together! The Store was a mob!
