Looks Like WDW has cancelled PTNS for near future!!!!
Wow. I'm sorry to hear that! I hope DLR doesn't do the same thing!

Jenna is who does the PTN events. Someone told me it is because of the way people acted at the fantasy land release. First they take away 10% of our discount and now PTN so not fair

I'd guess that they were losing money on the events, but they could have decided to charge a modest entrance fee if that was the issue.

Has anyone taken a walk through the convention center during when a typical PTN would be held? I wonder if they've been booked up with convention business, and so there isn't space for pin traders. Or for the lines to form without interference with other convention business.

this really stinks. Perhaps they will do a PTN on the night of pre registration, September 12th, so we can at least get Punzel & Figgy. Who knows what they are up, too! The thing that stinks is we have reservations at Ohana's that evening. But I'm sure one of our friends will pick it up for us.

awe i wanted to go to my first event, is it too late for the villains one? i just want to see and maybe have a lot of pins to trade but i doubt that

Nope, is is not too late! They haven't opened registration for the September event yet, but hopefully they will soon!

that sooo totally sucks! The rapunzel PTN, did it say WDW on it anywhere? DLR is still doing PTN's, so perhaps they will send her to us for release?

Someone on here said something about disney getting out of pins... I can comfortably say disney will NOT discontinue pins. Its to easy a money maker for them. Things are changing, but I think in the long run over the next year or so, we as a group will be happy with the changes that occur in this hobby. We just have to wait and see what replaces the typical PTN, and how Disney releases its pins.

I think we all need some comfort food. How about cookies? Cookies are a great comfort food in this time of frustration.

I'm not saying that this is inaccurate, but someone with the title of Merchandise Guest Services isn't exactly the authority on this type of information. I worked for the company for over 2 years and I know for sure that there isn't anyone named Sherri that high in the hierarchy of decision-making. (I won't divulge how I know that though, haha) PTNs aren't even organized by anybody in Merchandise Guest Services. However, it is possible that she got the information from someone above her. Until there is word from someone who knows that information for a fact, I wouldn't assume it means PTNs are done. They may be planning out a schedule for them and Sherri just isn't privy to those details, thus only being able to give out the tidbits that she knows.

Yes, the Rapunzel PTN that they previewed said Walt Disney World on it.

I don't want to believe this. Not saying it's not true , just don't want to believe it. Has anyone else had any other information or emailed WDW? Really hoping this Sherri is mistaking Not sure how they don't make money on pins even with the amount of fakes 500 LE at $10.00 is $5,000 for a rental at the convention hall for a few hours. Plus the other merchandise they sell that night.

She is kind of ambiguous in her email.
After reading it a few times it seems as though she is saying that there isn't currently a PTN scheduled. And as far as she knows there are no plans to schedule one right now. That does not mean they are not doing them anymore. Someone can go to her tomorrow and talk about scheduling a pin trading night.

There has been 2 ptn booked at the contemp both were cancelled within a few days of the event.. So it's not for the lack of space- my issue is if they are blaming dec its curious since it wasn't a 'true' ptn (and IMO poorly scheduled and handled from Disneys side...) sigh.. Course if they release all the pins at sept it'll be a nightmare ...

Kind of glad I did not go to the Dec. "event" craziness. I am staying on the positive side of thinking and going to agree with Karkura! ~~~hmm my sign not posting..

I'm not convinced this is true. The memo has misspelling and grammatical errors. Disney is more professional than that.

The December event was a disaster but it was announced last minute and was very poorly managed with the whole "no line business" and free for all. I didn't say they would never do a PTN ever again but it's clear they have cancelled some. We were supposed to have them every 2-3 months and it's april. FYI it looks like the May PTN for Disneyland pin is showing as release in May....still no information for WDW. I stand by my thought the next one will be in September or maybe.......juuuuuuuust maybe one to show off the merch for the Sept event but I'm not really holding my breath on it.

Oh and yes, the person I talked to may not be the authority but FYI I'm not the only person that has gotten this answer.

I'm just soooooooo frustrated with Disney World pin activities at the moment.

And if you want the email I'm happy to give it to you just PM me.

Horrible. They already have the ballrooms--just pick an empty on..it takes very little to set uo the tables and put in the merchandise. I find this very odd and frustrating but i really ask people to drop a complaint as suggested in the original post....i for one took trips down for PTNs so yes they are loosing money.

Hmmmm. Normally, I wouldn't trust what any given cast member has to say- just because Disney is fickle and changes their minds about things all the time (and CMs can assume and understand things wrong, as well). But the proof has kind of been in the pudding lately, hasn't it? It's been almost 6 months since the last event, and that was a poorly thrown together thing that didn't even count as a real PTN.

...I just don't understand the logic behind this. A few years ago, when the PTNs were starting to look empty, then yeah, I could understand. But lately, PTNs have been HOPPING! Which leads me to three conclusions:

1.) They aren't doing them because they don't feel they're necessary to still get pin traders' money (less bang for our buck)- they've been doing this with the September event for a while...just giving us the bare minimum for a "show", taking our money, then running. Maybe they feel the PTNs were too hard to run (gathering cast members, paying them, organizing them, etc.) when they know they have us hooked anyway.

2.) They can't do them due to job cuts. Basically, the people who currently run them are too busy with the work piled on to them. If there's anything I know about corporations they love to dump as much work onto people as they can, then trim jobs.

3.) They really are punishing us for bad behavior, got fed up, and decided not to do them anymore. Granted, the behavior would have had to have been REALLY bad, but at some point, management would back them on this (even over sales), if it got out of control and to be more trouble than they're worth...

It's not because of space- there's more than enough ballrooms space at WDW, and it can't be full all of the time.

Whatever the reason, if it's true that they're cutting PTNs, then we've definitely got a problem, as a community. WDW is starving, and soon, this part of the pin trading world is going to be all but dead. Oh, sure...they're sell PINS- families will buy them, and for the cute OEs, we may even still buy them. But pin TRADING, as a collectible hobby, won't be the same...we may be here, but we'll be all but worthless, supply-wise.

We already lost DS.com, we already lost most of our LE releases under 1,000...if we lose PTNs, we won't be able to keep up with DLR/Cali (and I would argue that we can't anymore, anyway). With no new releases to pump into the hobby, it's going to dry up over here.

This is a big mistake on Disney's part...if there's anything we know from collectible hobbies, it's that you don't let them get bored. Because most of us have addictive personalities, and quite a few of us have more than one hobby. If we don't have a way to feed our obsessions, our attention WILL drift to other areas, and our money will go with us.

What really sucks is that there are any number of ways they can change/alter things to still make money AND keep us happy, but they don't seem to want to make the effort...they'd rather just cut us off at the knees.

There was an article this weekend saying Disney is slashing jobs - specifically in the Merchandising category to "save costs."

And that might be some of the reason their "artists" have taken to stealing people's art from online. Check it out:

Shameful.

We just wanted to let everyone know that PTN's have NOT been cancelled. This information comes from a friend of ours who works at WDW, and just wanted me to relay that information. They are simply still trying to find a space and date for the next PTN. We agree that it has been a while since the last trade night, but we're sure Disney will not let us down!
