by all means, share your stories of what you collect and why!!

Ramblings of a psycho's theory on her collections: **warning, long!**

I collect too many things again...
I tend to be pretty hard on myself with my collections because I just cant afford to get EVERYTHING I want. So every once in a while, I tend to "cull" my collection/keeper books. The problem is.... i really do like everything i have right now. hahaha!

I try to limit myself to 1 movie. And FROZEN definitely outstrips ANY Disney movie I have ever considered a favorite before. So technically, in my psycho logic, that means my HoND collection can go back to the trade book. But well, a LOT of my HoND stuff was stuff zapped to me or gotten for me by friends at steep discounts. So letting go of some of my HoND is just NOT going to happen. Some of it, sure, no problem. I can use it for traders to GET more of the other keepers. :)

My original horse collection was "Horses from movies who have personality and a name." such as Maximus, Sampson, Major... etc... however it recently became ANYTHING HORSE. I even have a pin with a crashed rocket with a saddle on it. Yeah... anything horse. lol I think I could comfortably cull a few out for my traders but not much.

Thumper. OMG, my thumper collection finally grew! I think i own a total of 10 thumper pins. lol I am so picky with those there is nothing there to cull.

Knights: Dashing hero's, or just the "knights of pin trading" or characters dressed in shiney armor... This collection is actually specifically to remind me of the awesome kind and wonderful people here on DPF. My plan is to gether a bunch of these together and then ZAP them to all the "knights of pin trading" here on DPF whom i love so very much. So technically, its not a "collection" but they are in my keeper book right now. It might take me another year to complete the group before i am ready to spread the love, but that IS my plan.

Dragons... what started as a love of those dratted WDI mickey Icon dragons..... Has turned into a Dragon obsession. If i see a dragon in a trade book i covet it. since i am born in the year of the dragon, this is actually something that makes sense. But how many Maleficent's do i need? Seriously? So I am going to limit my dragons to one of each character dragon, and continue trying to complete my WDI dragon mickeys. Oh and mushu.. i want lots of mushu. lol

Pixie hollow.... I am really torn about this. I have sooooo much pixie hollow and some are really great pins, but i seem to have moved away from them. THESE i may cull back into the trade book.

So basically i collect:

pin2521th72
pin15587th72
pin80880th72
pin35489th72
pin64753th72
pin83812th72
pin67670th72
pin74122th72
pin99143th72

And I think the pixie hollow can officially be let go. :)

Time to re-arrange my keeper books!!! AND time to update my lists in the new databases!!!

Really cool collections. I too am constantly trying to limit my collections. I just started trading away my villains collection mostly Ursula. I collect Nightmare before Christmas, Stitch and Alice in Wonderland. Vanellope keeps creeping back into my collection and I am torn about keeping her. She is just so darn cute! Considering that what I collect has huge collections I really don't need to collect anything else. Luckily I am not a completest. Oh and I have an almost complete Frankenweenie collection. Missing two pins I think. I hope they don't make anymore. Although a PTD/PTS Sparky would be cool.

Collections I still collect: Enchanted, Dumbo, Steamboat Willie, Peter & the Wolf, WDI Mystery Sorcerer Hats, black and white Mickey, Monsters University, Frozen

Collections I turned into traders: Up, WiR, some Jasmine, some Aurora, Mr. Toad, Punzie

I only started collecting pins recently as a result of boredom whilst waiting for more information on the Disney LE Doll releases, I was spending a lot of time on the forum and due to the slow down on info in the Disney Doll thread I started reading the pin related threads which was a big mistake as it has gotten me somewhat into pin collecting.

At the moment I dont really have much of a collection per say, I have been building up my Designer Princess and Designer Villains line so I guess you could say that is my collection? I am also a huge Toy Story fan so I have been building up my collection with that as well. I guess you could say that my collection is generally the higher end LE pins? I am trying to just keep my collection down to just buying ones that I really like.

What I is that because I am located in a different country with very little trading and availability of pins I have found building up traders to be difficult. Instead I just buy most of my pins and build my collection that way, I think at the moment I just have one trader :P. So I guess you could say that I am more of a collector of pins rather than a trader? It is an expensive collection though so I may end up just stopping once I complete the sets I currently have and only buy the ones that I like and can get at retail or close to it or else I will be broke spending all my money on Disney Dolls and Disney Pins! Darn you Disney for making items that are addictive to collectors!

Oh gosh! I have way too many collections!

My main collections are Couples and Sleeping beauty. I also collect Belle, Ariel, Rapunzel and jasmine because I can't make decisions on my favorite. And then any other princess pins I find and like. I also love the male characters/ princes from all the movies! I used to collect villains and still have mainly maleficent and gastons but decided to let go of most of those. And I have a small Hercules, Robin Hood, and Bambi collections as well as random character cutouts of any and all random characters I like :) oh and lady and the tramp and pongo and perdita but they count in the couples :) plus my race pins and just any random pin I like :) it gets hard when you get all the easy ones of a collection and it's hard to get more so I just start a new one! And like I said I can't make a decision to save my life so I don't...I keep everything I like! :P

I feel this pain, although some of my collections I consider "complete"

I collect:

*Mulan and Fa Zhou (complete). This is a remembrance for my father and only has four pins in it, but those are all the pins of them together! haha. So its done and in its own display :)

*Brave. This is for me and my momma <3 And Merida is one of my favorite princesses!

*Frozen. My new favorite Disney feature. I am not going to be a completest (at least not on purpose...if it happens it happens, right??). I love the movie to pieces, I can't stop watching it. 5 times and counting, and I hope to make it many more. Anna is my new favorite princess, and I honestly can't see anyone ever replacing her. I have never felt so...similar to a princess before! I resonate with her and all of her quirks. And Elsa is to die for, she is just awesome! I love the message that the film conveys and I support it fully. I want to express my love with pins haha. I hope they don't get TOO crazy!

*Gaston. Because I love Gaston. Don't think that needs much more of an explanation haha. He's a babe

*Pocahontas. As my second/third favorite princess (Merida and her are fighting for that spot!), she needed a collection. I don't really actively seek her pins, mostly because they never show up, or the ones I want are bananas prices. But I did manage to get my Eagle New Classics pin, so yay! <3

*Oliver and Company (complete-ish). I started this collection when my two orange kitties passed. My cats were very special to me, and I wanted to commemorate their lives with a cute display. I still couldn't have done it without David! :D

*Princess and the Frog. I haven't added to this one in a bit. I've considered dropping it, but I just love Tiana too much to get myself to do it! :(

*Stitch. Another slow mover. I kind of get them where I can but I don't actively seek out crazy rare pins or something. I just think he's cute and he makes me smile with all of his antics!

*Tarzan and Jane (complete-ish). They are tied for "favorite Disney couple" in my book (with Kristoff and Anna eh eh heh). I love them so much! Sadly there are very few pins of them together, so this one is practically complete for now! I'm praying that the BT has my favorite scene on it!

*And finally, Princess Beloved Tales pins. this one is...stumped! I have three currently, and I'm so very grateful for them. They're so so gorgeous!!

Sigh. This is SO me. It started with Rajah & Marie which then grew to Lady & the Tramp and 101 Dalmatians. So cats, then dogs, then the Brave cubs haha. I decided I needed to collect a princess too, so Mulan came along.

I thought that would be it...

Then Frozen happened. It was my intention for those pins to be traders butttt they were beautiful and I absolutely loved the movie. I have decided that if things get too crazy with Frozen I will elect to collect only Elsa...but we shall see about that XD I seem to have very little self control when I find a pretty pin!

LOL! This post is adorable... and very relatable.

Recently, I too have been thinking of cutting back. There is no way I'm giving up ANY of my Figaro pins, and all of my Peter Pan pins are pretty safe, too. But a few of my minor collections... The Sword in the Stone and Alice, for example, I may have to cut back on. I told myself when I started collecting that I would only keep pins I absolutely love... but it's getting to the point where I know some of my pretty pins would get more even love in another home, so I think I'll be sending out some zaps soon! :)

My collections in the basic order of priority although I have a tendency to rotate when collections start becoming complete...

Tangled. ( I'm down to 4 actually pins of her, not ones they stuck her in with a million other characters, then I'm missing 7.)

Tiger lily. ( almost complete!!! The last few pins I'm missing are extremely difficult. :/
2 le 100 pins, 2 frame sets, and a tiny hard to find pin.)

pocahontas. ( this collection is basically complete thanks to my Christmas zap from the amazing wax family. :)
but I'm still on the hunt for sedesma pins I'm missing and a few brooches...)

brave. ( I'm practically done. I'm missing the impossible elinor pendant, the 3 disney adventure pins, and the 4 clan buttons from WDW.)

Horses. ( this collection kinda of just gets pins added when I find them I don't actively search but it's a pretty big collection considering. I am the year of the horse, I own and ride horses as well, plus I just love the dynamic of a princess and her horse. :) )

Vanessa&kissthegirl. ( complete. She Was my first collection and I own every pin of her... <3
my kiss the girl collection is down to the Gomes and Japan stitch le 200.)

Dodger from Oliver and co. ( my dog is a jack Russell and I love her to bits... )

Mulan. ( I'm not a completist. I own pretty much every pin I want. I wouldnt mind adding the brocade and le 100 sidekick pin but that's it.)

Misc. pins is mostly my characters dressed as other characters... I just love the idea of the pins. Disney characters playing dress up, makes me giggle.

**edit** and frozen teeheehee. ( but I own every pin that's out so far. :) I love that movie not sure where it sits in ranking but it's before horses...)

My main collections are Frozen, BATB (only belle beast and gaston though) and Pocahontas (only Pocahontas though)

And then I also collect Ariel pins and Bolt pins!

Then I just collect any princess pins of any of the princesses (I love the princesses hehe)

Ive decided to just focus on keeping my PTN collection going so im parting with my stitch invasion pina amd other pins to keep them going and Im wanting to start to pick up collecting Sven from Frozen least there is only 1 pin of him so far haha

Ive put to much effort into my PTNs to mot be able to afford those so Im making a sacrifice lolol Only other collection Im definitely keeping is my Kevin pins others are undecided at this moment in time.

I only ever collected Hercules and now I've added frozen to the mix it feels pretty overwhelming xD Hercules is relatively easy and more a question if timing and just finding people that still have them as there so old. Froze a very intimidating and hard but i love it so sticking with it :) no more though xD two is enough.

Well, when I first started collecting I wanted anything I could get my hands on. I have since narrowed it down to about 25 different collections and have begun selling/trading what doesn't "fit".

So my main collections would be:

101 Dalmatians - My favorite Disney movie, so it is my largest collection

Princess and the Frog - Love this movie and Tiana is tied for first place with Belle as my favorite Disney princess

Hunchback of Notre Dame - Although I'm missing many, I consider this collection complete with 40 pins because I cant fit anymore on the board

Black Cauldron - Nearly complete! Only need 5 more!!!

Villains - Most of my collection. May get rid of some

Brave - Also considering this one complete as the rest of the pins seem "unobtainable" for me

The Great Mouse Detective - Nearly complete! Only need 6 more!!!

Frankenweenie - Complete except for one rare one from Japan.

Fantasia - Mostly Sorcerer Mickey and Chernabog

Atlantis - Very close to having all the LE 100s

Other smaller side collections that I hope will grow:

Tangled

Frozen - Only need about 4 more

Wreck-it Ralph

Beauty and the Beast

Oliver & Company

Robin Hood

The Rescuers

Enchanted

Emperor's New Groove

Lilo & Stitch

Planes - Only need 3 more

Nightmare Before Christmas

Toy Story - Just started this one

Ratatouille

Star Wars

My collection is all over the place. I used to collect everything I liked, and it was a lot. Recently, I've decided to collect series or sets that I would frame. I really love the Designer Fairytale, Beloved Tales and PODM pins. They'd be treasures to have and they'd have a purpose. Because right now, all I have is five pin bags with random LE and OE pins that match my "collection". And it's all over the place. So many things to like!

Seconding OlafOlaf, Just collect what I like. Pretty new to the hobby. I like Maleficent, Jessica, Animals (this is so broad), Frozen (me and everyone else) mainly Elsa/Olaf/Sven/the Ice palace, and a bunch of strange pins that just happen to make it onto my likes. I would love to collect Fantasia pins but it's pretty obscure, and any of my favorite characters from films.

I thought I was going to be more into the Little Mermaid because i loved it when I was younger, but except for a few pins I'm not really crazy about it (phew).

Reading though this thread makes me feel a little better about my own relatively small collection ;) I started collecting everything Figment and then started a few small side collections.

Figment - 58 pins left! Haha, I will never get them all, but at least the ones that are left come up for trade/sale rarely enough that I'm not spending myself silly on them!

Brave Little Toaster - Completist! (Just one pin )

Susie the Little Blue Coupe - Completist! (Five pins)

Pedro the Mail Plane - One pin left out of six!

Reluctant Dragon - One pin left out of sixteen!

I also have a few other pins I've collected for personal reasons.

Well I completely understand! I think I collect so much because I like so much and it's really to hard to make a decision! Also I get even more excited when I can add to my many collections. I did narrow it down a bit to as follows.

*Lumiere - He is my dream role in Beauty and the Beast the musical, I sang Be Our Guest as the opening of a New Years event party and he is one of my best impressions. So for all these reasons he is at the top of my list! :)

*The Caterpillar - Yet again one of my favorite impressions I enjoy doing and he also made me laugh with just how monotone he is and his facial reactions to Alice. :)

*Si and Am - I'm a cat person and a villain lover so naturally I gravitate to this sneaky feline pair.

*Jafar/Iago - My favorite villainous duo.

*March Hare/White Rabbit - Both of these characters I enjoy for the comedic properties. Also, I would love to be either of these roles in Alice in Wonderland the play. I also do a good impression of The March Hare.

*Fauna the green fairy - She reminds me so much of my grandmother. So when I see a pin of her it reminds me of her and makes me smile. Also, green is one of my favorite colors.

Of course I have other sides as well but those are my main focus as of now with others randomly creeping in every now and then. :)

So I collect pretty much every pin I like. There are some characters or types of pins I like more than others (like characters dressed as other characters, tennis related pin, parade pin, Haunted Mansion, dance related pins, and figment, just to name a few). I am on a mission to get at least one pin of every Disney character and attraction, so I guess that can be considered a type of collection, right?

Okay, I'll list my collections, too! :)

Figaro - Figaro has always had a special place in my heart. I'm an animal lover, and my childhood pet was a tuxedo cat named Oreo. I think I have about 30 Figaro pins so far... It is my biggest collection of any solo character. (I also have a couple pins of Cleo!)

Peter Pan - My biggest movie collection. I think I have about 40 Peter Pan pins - I only collect the ones I fall in love with, which are usually pins of individual characters... My favorites are the ones I have of Tick Tock, Tiger Lily, and the Lost Boys, and my pins of the main characters flying through the sky. I do love Tinker Bell's character in the movie, but I do not collect random pins of her that are not associated with Peter Pan.

Hanukkah - I'm Jewish, and although I'm not a religious person in the least, Hanukkah is my favorite holiday - and it is SO hard to find cool, unique Hanukkah stuff. So when I found out Disney made Hanukkah pins, my mind was blown. I think I have about ten or twelve so far, which doesn't sound like much - but I think there are only about 40 in existence!

Halloween - Mostly pumpkin and jack-o-lantern pins! My second favorite holiday.

Classic Disney animals - Kind of an offshoot of my Figaro collection - I have a few pins from 101 Dalmatians, Lady and the Tramp, and Bambi. I also have one beloved pin of Lucifer, who reminds me of my current cat.

Chip and Dale - When I was a wee one, my favorite tv show was Rescue Rangers. One day I wrote Chip and Dale a fan letter, and I was delighted when they sent back an autographed 8x10 black and white photograph (currently framed on my desk). Chip and Dale was my first collections, and one I'm kind of done with - because I'm lucky enough to have accumulated almost every pin I originally wanted of them! (Aside from one pin in which they are dressed as Woody and Buzz which is almost impossible to get.) I think I have about 20 Chip and Dale pins.

Haunted Mansion pins - Another one of my first collections that I'm pretty much done with - and one of my smallest. It contains the four open edition pins that featured the Fab Five dressed as the Stretching Room portraits. I also have a few more easy-to-get pins from some of my other favorite Disney attractions, including the Tower of Terror and the Enchanted Tiki Room.

Mickey icons - A whopping collection of four random pins I just really like the look of.

The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, and Alice in Wonderland - As much as I love all three of these movies, this is one grouping I'm thinking of cutting back on.

Princess pins - My newest collection, but it's sort of odd it took me so long to begin collecting these, since my favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast. Maybe I was scared of all the hardcore collectors! Anyway, I only collect a few of these, too. I love the "Kiss" series, and I'm almost done collecting those - just one to go! I also have a pin of Minnie dressed as a princess, a Beauty and the Beast Window to the Magic pin - and a Belle princess crest. It's a small collection, but cherished.

Okay, that's it! :time to breathe:

Ah so I'm not the only one who collects a lot of random themes. :D

Commencing collection listing...

King Candy - Hopefully one day will be King Candy/Turbo. Completist status at the moment. My favourite Disney movie character, so of course I collect pins of him!

Big Thunder Railroad - The Paris version is special to me, but I collect any pins of it from any of the parks.

Haunted Mansion - Specific characters mainly; Hitchhikers, Hatbox and Organist. Gotta love the Mansion!

Phantom Manor - Still trying to be a completist. My favourite Disney ride.

Disney Trains - Railroad and Casey. Changing the collection to only focus on pins of the trains without characters.

Riverboat - I like the riverboat?

Mad Hatter - Only single pins of him. Ed Wynn is awesome.

Racing themed pins - Haven't started this collection yet... but hopefully can start soon.

My collections are pretty focused...

Thankfully I'm not even close to "too many collections." Every time I think about starting another one, I find that I just don't have the heart to strengthen the will the spend the money. I've flirted with a couple (Main Street USA, Peter Pan, Fantasia) but never followed through.

What has happened is this: besides my memento collection of pins I pick up (or have been given) to commemorate parks and tours and events, my proper collection is Jules Verne-related pins. That is, pins from Disney films and attractions derived from Jules Verne books, like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (films and rides), Space Mountain: Mission 2 and Discoveryland (Disneyland Paris), Mysterious Island and its attractions (Tokyo Disneysea), etc. At first this was going to be strictly those pins with Disney characters on them, such as Mickey Mouse in a diving suit or Goofy riding the Orbitron. That expanded a bit to a few ones without characters, like the only Mysteries of the Nautilus attraction pin in existence. Then I got this bright idea to create a kind of "Under the Sea" diorama with one set of 20,000 Leagues pins (this one to be exact) mixed with other ocean-themed ones, against an ocean-themed back. Right now it includes an Ariel and a Monstro pin, but I have Flounder and Sebastian pins on the way. There's a couple more I kinda' have my eye on as well.

So basically, while I haven't taken on a second collection as such, I've definitely expanded my one collection to include a lot of things that ought not to be in it :)

I have a ton of different themes - I want to concentrate more on culling down my collection to stuff I love. I've given up on being catching them all in any category, but it does free me to concentrate on only the pins I really really like.

Sleeping Beauty in Blue, Prince Phillip (swoon), Briar Rose
Mulan
Robin Hood
Chip n Dale
Winnie the Pooh
Mike Wazowski
Any weird pin that catches my fancy
Theme Parks (events I've attended or magical memories)

Wow, that doesn't even scratch the surface! I've got a lot to go through! :)

Tinker Bell- I've loved her since I was a (younger) kid. I also never want to grow up, so I think she keeps me young  Never giving her up.

Lumpy (3 pins to go!)- Pooh's Heffalump Movie was the first movie I ever cried in. I feel very emotionally attached to him for that reason  Also, he's just so CUTE

Certain Tangled pins- Was my favorite Disney movie (until Frozen). I can connect with Rapunzel and fulfilling dreams, so they remind me that it is always possible for me to fulfill my dreams, no matter what people do or say to me. I may have to trim this one down if I want to collect...

Frozen- My favorite Disney movie. I love the idea of sisters and love and family. My sister is my best friend. I love her so much and the movie definitely reminds me of her and how much I love her and what I would do for her.

Animation Themes- I want to be an animator. 'Nuff said.
