So my son and I are starting to collect pins and then eventually trade. My son knew right away what he wanted to collect, villians, nightmare before christmas, and anything ghost or Halloween related. I on the otherhand can't decide what to focus on, I love Disney as a whole, but would like to focus on just a couple of themes. I am sure I will figure it out, before our Disney trip in Oct, but this made me wonder:

What does everyone collect and why?

Tinker Bell- because she's visually pretty, and has some great pins.
Jessica Rabbit- Love the movie, love the character, great pins
Duffy- Love him
Princesses- Also just plain "pretty"
Tower of Terror- Favorite attraction, and I love Hollywood noir. I'm picky about which pins from ToT, though

I dabble in Stitch and Chip and Dale, but they have to be super cute or cool in some way. For all other pins, there has to be something about them that is cool enough that I go outside my normal collecting patterns.

You've probably got an idea of what you might want to collect, but definitely bop around Pinpics some and look at all the pins out there (especially Disney Auctions era and Disneyshopping.com era)- you'll definitely feel a pull for certain pins...

Princesses!!!!!! Aurora, Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan, Snow White, Cinderella, Tiana, Merida, and Pocahontas. These are my favorite pins because they are usually so pretty!

I also collect:
Cats! They are so cute.
Hercules. Childhood favorite movie.
Bolt! He's another cute character.
A few random Donald and Daisy pins.

Probably not a good person to ask to narrow it down.

Together, sis (jadeites-lady [who rarely gets on here cuz I'm hogging the computer]) and I collect Belle, Mulan, Silver Mist (Asian water faerie from Tinker Bell movies), Little Green Men, and Star Wars. I have a minor collection of Mickey/Minnie as other Disney couples and doing couple-y things, plus some Asian themed pins.

I collect Alice in Wonderland, but I try more classic looking pins. It was favorite movie when I was younger. I also collect Mary Blair art inspired pins and small world pins. (so pins that are Alice, Mary Blair and small world are my grails. All 3!!!) :hsd:

I also collect classic Disneyland themed pins, Rapunzel (since it was the first movie I took my daughter too) and any other pins that I just think are cute.

I am in love with anything train related, pocket watch pins, key pins, haunted mansion duelers and stretching portraits, and really well thought out pins. not the mass production pins that are a dime a dozen. Trains because my family has been in the railroad for 70 years, pocket watches and keys because i just love them, and haunted mansion because i love the ride.

Happy trades

I collect Lion King pins. LK is my most adored Disney movie! Love every part of it! Love the characters, music, everything! Wish there were more LK pins on sale in DL and WDW... I also collect PODM, Goofy, and anything that floats my boat at the time

My main collection consists of haunted mansion, Halloween, and NBC pins... Since I joined the forum I started collecting PODM's because they're awesome... :salute:

Paula collects: Ariel, Belle, Dumbo, Donald, Animal Kingdom, Patriotic, Flower and Garden, Duffy, Bears, pins that catch her fancy.

Me-FIGARO!!!!!!! And Si & Am, Ivan from Peter and the Wolf, Mitten from Bolt and Chandu. >^..^<

I actually have two Disney pin collections. The first is a collection of mementos... Pins of parks gone to, tours gone on, and so forth. Those are my souvenirs (and if I can help it they tend towards involving the old school, black-and-white Mickey, because I love vintage animation art from the Twenties and Thirties).

My gratuitous pin collection is very specific: attractions and films based on Jules Verne, but only with Disney characters on them. So, for example, Mickey Mouse looking like Captain Nemo from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea or Donald Duck riding Disneyland Paris' Space Mountain. That collection came about in a very natural way as I have actually been visiting all the Disney parks with Jules Verne references... I've been to Disneyland Paris and to Tokyo Disneysea, so my collection just started with pins I picked up when I went there. Unfortunately I never got the chance to ride WDW's 20,000 Leagues submarine ride.

As to why Jules Verne, he is my favourite author. I absolutely adore his work and many of the movies based on it, including Disney's 20,000 Leagues and In Search of the Castaways. I even run a blog on Victorian Science Fiction. In fact, it was 20,000 Leagues in combination with the Haunted Mansion that got me interested in Disney again as an adult, long after I stopped watching the movies and things as a teenager. I'm hoping to go back to France next year and to visit his actual home and grave in Amiens, as well as go to Disneyland Paris ^_^

I'm kind of all over the place too; partly movies/characters/attractions that I love, and partly just other things that look cool. Primarily Alice in Wonderland; then Cinderella (I like original dress & pink dress), Pirates, and Small World; also Brave, Princess and the Frog, Haunted Mansion, some Muppets, Mickey icons as food or other Mickey icons I like the look of, clocks & keys (though I haven't got many of those yet). A few Hidden Mickey sets I really liked, like the chess sets & watch sets. The character hats mystery set. I'm hoping to get some of the Administrative Professionals Day pins (because I am one!) and maybe some of the Mother's Day pins (my mom passed about a year and a half ago) and trying to get more Maleficent & Diablo (or just Diablo alone- I like crows & ravens). And now that I've seen Lilo & Stitch there's a few Stitch pins I kind of like too.

I have a board shaped like the Mad Hatter's hat, which will contain the Alice and maybe the pirates, and I'm in the process of making a board shaped like the glass slipper, which will contain the princesses, and thinking of a Mickey-icon shaped board for the Mickey icons and the attraction-related pins.
