So as some of you know, I am not on facebook. Don't have time or the desire to be there. Amy however is and she was mentioning that on one of the forums there they were talking about zaps and how it is bad to sell, trade (I imagine auction off would be the same).

I guess I will start off with my feelings about the subject and then ask for others thoughts.

To me a zap is a gift. After I have given a zap to somebody I feel that it is theirs to do with whatever they like. It is a way for me to tell somebody else that somebody out in the world was thinking of them and wanted them to know it. If they can turn around and use that gift to get something else they want more then that is fantastic. If they want to keep it then that is great also. For me I love the idea that I could brighten somebody else's day. They sure do seem to happen at the right time it I am noticing.

On my wants list I have a lot of pins that I want to use as traders. We go to Disneyland once or in really good years twice a year. I know what I have had success trading in the past while we are there and it also allows me to feed my trading habit when I can't get the pins I need for one of our collections. I do most of my trading for other traders. For me pin trading in person is supposed to be fun and if I am not pin trading while we are there how can I have fun?

When I receive zaps, if it is part of something in our collections that I already have then I swap them out and keep the zap because it has more meaning then the one I bought or traded for. If it isn't something from one of our collections then I use it as a trader to hopefully get something else we do want.

If it bothers you that I might use a zap as a trader then please don't zap me. I would not want somebody to be unhappy they zapped me and I didn't keep it then to not get zapped at all. I never want unhappy pin friends!!! Don't get me wrong, I love getting zaps!!! Who doesn't? It means that somebody out there took the time to find something for me and that to me is more important then what the zap is!!! Which is why I love art zaps so much!!! I have always said it doesn't matter what you zap, just that you zap. Like everybody else it is really nice knowing we are not alone and there are other really nice people out there trying to do nice things for others. It puts a bright shine on this cruddy world we live in. There are so many bad things happening that I cherish when somebody does something nice. It allows others to see there is still good and nice people all over the world and is a huge reason I love being part of this family!!!

By the same token if I zap you and you decide you can use the zap to pay for a bill or trade for a pin you really want, then please do not ever feel guilty about it!!! It is simply my way of saying that we are out here and you matter to us. There has been several times when we have zapped money instead of pins because I knew the other person needed it. I want the person being zapped to feel appreciated here and part of our wonderful family!!!

I get very excited when I am zapped and feel pretty honored that someone went out of their way to buy/trade the item and mailed it to me. I have kept the few zaps that have been given to me, even if they don't fit in with my collection. But that is just me. If I zapped someone and they chose to trade it/sell it, by all means it is your pin. I gave it to you as a gift and you can do whatever you want with it. If you're able to trade it for a pin you really want, I helped in that and that's still a good thing. If you sold it for cash and then purchased a spiffy pin, I wouldn't get mad.

Each to their own when it comes to zaps. Personally, I keep my zaps because it was something that I was not expecting and was done out of the kindness of that person's heart.
 
I think Facebook is full of drama. My wife has me on there under her name, but I never go on there. She is on my pooh list right now. I agree if you are zapped and you can trade it for something you want or visa versa, by all means it's your pin to do with it as you wish. Me, I have been zapped once by the dear Tiggermickey and I kept it as it was a gift, a nice gesture.
 
I can see where someone might get their feelings hurt if they see a person sell or trade a pin they zapped that person with. However, it was a gift and I do feel that once the person receives it, it is theirs to do what they want with it. People change their minds on their collection, might need some money, etc. On a personal note, twice I've been zapped a pin that I had just either purchased or traded for. I was so excited to get the zap but also felt a little bad knowing I was putting them in my traders. Considering I haven't been zapped that much, the odds of that happening to me twice astounds me. LOL!
 
Me, personally, if I get a zap, I tend to hold on to it. Even if it's something I don't really collect. I feel like the person was thinking of me, and it makes me glad to know that!
If someone chooses to do something with something I zap? Well I have mixed feelings to be honest. If its something someone says the NEED or HAVE to have, then I feel kinda crummy. But hey its their pin, they can do what they want...I'll get over it!!!
 
I concur on the mixed feelings. It is completely their pin and I agree that whatever they choose to do with it is their business. I have given or traded pins to friends with the caveat that it goes in their keep it forever pile as it was something I was emotionally attached to but knew they would love it. I wanted them to be happy. Zaps though I look at as a little good fortune sent off into the world to make people happy and if it is traded someone who loves it will eventually get a hold of it and the person who trades will eventually get something they love. This is pin trading after all not pin keeping b:)
 
I can see being mad if you zapped someone with a really nice pin and then they turned around and sold it, but trading it seems fine to me. I mean, maybe you just zapped them with what you had to hand, but if they can get something they really like, that's all to the best. Plus, the pin is still going to a fellow trader. Selling it does seem iffy, tho. I, personally, wouldn't sell something I was zapped with. Trade it, yes.
 
I agree with David as well...and in the long run...who's to say they didn't get another pin and kept yours...no one knows. All in all...a zap is an act of kindness. ..to brighten another's day. If it did that for even a second...then I am happy.
 
I agree with David too. Once you've sent a zap, that pin belongs to the recipient. Whatever they do with it is up to them. If they trade it for something else or sell it for money, you've still helped them out by being the reason they have that trade/money. So you've still gifted them! The format shouldn't matter, just the thought.
 
I cant believe im saying this but I AGREE WITH DAVID.:facepalm: anywho i think the total funny pathetic part is that their is somebody so nosy and bored that they actually know or noticed what somebody else did with their zap! geez go mow the lawn or something.
 
If I receive a zap, I always keep it no matter what it is! Unless it's a double, then one of the pins will go onto my trades... unless I would like a double! :) I would personally feel bad about trading a zap or selling, but if i were to do so I'd ask the person who zapped me with it for their permission first :lol: This is such a complicated topic, I totally get the mixed feelings everyone is having! As for sending out zaps myself, I don't mind what they do with the pin- it's their pin now so they can do as they please. :)
 
I will say the same thing here that i said on that FB discussion::

To turn around and sell a zap is something I personally would not do.

To use a zap as a trader for something for my keeper list.. I think that is in the spirit of the zap. M zapper would be happy to know a pin they sent me got turned into a keeper.. wouldn't they?

I have gotten amazing zaps, zaps that will never ever leave my collection.
I have also gotten random small pin zaps which i know the person zapping me with won't mind me using for a trader. Pins not on my want list, but a small something to say they were thinking of me.

**not bragging, dont take it that way** If I were to keep every single pin people zapped me over the last 3 years, I would have a very um... eclectic, bunch of pins filling a page or two of my book. I have kept some, but I have also used some for trades to get pins I want. I think my zappers would be happy to see that.

If i zap someone, I do not expect them to keep it unless it matches their collection.
 
I agree with David as well. I'm even OK if someone wants to sell the pin. If they need the money for expenses, to buy a pin they would like better or even to go to the movies, I'm happy I was able to help out.
 
I am sure that there is somebody who disagrees with me. Please do not be afraid to post your opinion as well. I brought this up to talk about. I do understand how somebody might be upset if somebody didn't keep their present, but I would rather bring it out into the open then have anybody upset in private.

This is an open discussion so as long as it stays civil I will keep it open, I really do want all sides to discuss it.

This Is an interesting thread. People are very emotional about their pins. Me included:wavey: and I like to understand what everyone is thinking. Hope everyone is having great pin experiences out there today.
 
Personally, I would be a little hurt if I zapped someone and they sold the pin. However, I would be completely fine if they traded it to get something more fitting for their collection. I haven't been zapped but I would personally never sell a zap. I would, however, feel comfortable trading it.
 
I have no problems with people selling or trading the pins that I zap them. I have no problem trading a pin that I was zapped, or even zapping it to someone else, if it fits their collection and is just in my traders. I would probably give the heads up if I were selling a pin that I had been zapped, though, because that would most likely be a more desirable, valuable pin, and I would want the person to know and not "hear it through the grapevine" and think I was ungrateful.
 
I have been zapped about three times and those pins went into my collection. I have sent out several little zaps not knowing for sure if the person needs or even wants them. I look at their collection to get an idea of what they like. People's want lists are not always up to date so I hope I'm not sending something they already have. I figure if they don't really need it, it still gives them another trader. Everyone likes to get new traders in their books. I suppose if I zapped someone with a super expensive pin from their wants list I might feel a little hurt if they traded it away but people do change their tastes in pins over time and may want to start a whole new collection so that's what it's all about. Getting the pins you really want. I was collecting Jessica Rabbit but when I saw that so many were being faked, I stopped looking too very hard and now I am starting a Dumbo collection. I agree with you. Zaps are fun to give and how ever the person uses it is their choice.
 
I've been zapped several times by several wonderful members of the forum. When I receive a zap of something off my wants list, that's easy. It's automatically a keeper.

There have been a few times, however, that I've been zapped with pins that are not on my wants list, and once or twice with pins that don't even fall under any categories I collect. In this case, I say thank you, and I do very much appreciate the gesture, but I feel comfortable trading it away, or re-zapping it to someone who does collect that theme.

I am not against re-gifting, both in the pin and non-pin world, and this goes for the gifts I give, as well as the gifts I get. No sense in holding on to something that has outlived it's sentimental value, just because it was a present. I believe that you can love and appreciate a gift wholeheartedly without feeling obligated to hold on to it forever.

I'd rather pass a pin on to someone who would cherish it in their own collection... Or to a new trader... Or to someone who just needs a smile!

David, I have zapped you in the past, knowing that you were probably going to re-zap my pins... That's what you do, after all, and you're very honest about it. :)

It makes me happy just knowing that the pins I'm sending you are gonna make someone smile, whether its you or the next guy or gal down the road. :-D

You have zapped me multiple times... you've made me smile, laugh, and even cry with your generosity, good humor, and shiny bits of metal.

I may not have zapped anyone with their grail pin (yet!), but I do what I can, when I can. When I send something to you, I feel like I'm a little piece of the magic that is the Grail Slayer. :)
