Collections You Gave Up On?
When I originally started collecting, I collected all the animals from classic Disney movies. My collection included Dumbo, the Aristocats, and the characters from The Jungle Book, amongst others. Then I decided to trim my "cute animals" collection down to just my favorite animal characters -Figaro, Cleo, Bambi, Thumper, Flower, Lady and the Tramp, Si & Am, 101 Dalmatians, and Lucifer. I traded away my others.

I don't think I'll EVER quit collecting Figaro, or Peter Pan. Those are my two true loves. :) My smaller collections - Robin Hood, Sword in the Stone, and now Alice in Wonderland - may take a backseat now and then, but that doesn't mean I'm giving up on them... I only collect the pins I LOVE from those movies. And the same goes for Chip & Dale - I'm just particular about which ones I add to my collection.

I stopped collecting Haunted Mansion Pins in 2009. The O-Pin House event at DLR for me killed the pins. They became so cartoon like and there were over 250 pins released that year for the 40th anniversary at DLR between DLR and WDI. We still have some but we have traded and sold a lot of them off. For my daughter she gave up Nightmare Before Christmas except just Sally by herself.

When I fitst started I had Lilo & Stitch, The Aristocats, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. I probably will colect a few from those after I finishe the ones I'm already collecting :)

I started to give up on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit when I was striking out left and right in trying to get those 85th anniversary pins and all his other pins were just too expensive (Epic Mickey 2 pin) to buy or never found. But I'm startingt to see more new pins now so I maaaaaaayyyyyyy be changing my mind.

I've given up on Brave. I decided I didn't like the pin designs enough and the movie wasn't very good at all. I have sort of stopped going after Marquee's hardcore. They just got too insane. I have only acquired 2 of the ~25 I need to complete in the last 6 months. Too many people paying the insanely high BIN prices.

I used to collect mainly Star Tours pins but I have so many now. I rotate my lanyard between my Star Tours and my Wreck-It Ralph. They've kind of forgot Star Tours since last years update. I mean, 1 new LE pin a year would't kill you would it Disney? I don't think we've had a parks LE pin since the 25th Anniv on January last year. I was really hoping for an Attraction poster from the monthly set. WDI did do a lot of releases in 2012 though. So I did get some new ones.

I'm thinknig of giving up Brave. There's 2 pins I know I will probably never even see in my lifetime, and in the span of about a month I went from missing '3' to missing 14. I don't have to be a completest, I don't particularly care for the mystery boxed pins but the ones I do really like are going to be too hard to get ):

I've also reached a ponit in my LK and Kitty collection where the things I was are le 300 or worse, and I don't have the time for that...or monies...or pins ):

*gives up all da things*

DisneyStore.com pins...they just don't make them like they use to, aside from the occasional jumbo, but I'd rather buy from the parks or DSF.

I gave up on Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Stitch, and Keys. However, I have recently decided that in stead of giving up, I will pick up to five pins from other movies I love to avoid 1) Completely going broke 2) Having my walls be covered in pins. So, I will stay with Tangled, Lion King, Prince of Persia (COMPLETE!!), and Random Faves. :)

It did hurt to give up BatB but surprisingly I gave up Stitch easily. I collected Brave for about a week and then decided I didn't want another collection that was as popular as Tangled. Tangled & Lion King take up enough time so I will not actively hunt for the other movies I love.

I've made a conscious decision to stop collecting large mystery box sets. You know... the ones like the Mystery Stamps or Art of Animation where the pin counts can get up into the 70s with the regular and chaser pins. Too much money and frustration to track those things down or score them outright out of a mystery box. They make all your pin buddies crazy and tell you that this is the last time they help you to complete the set. :D

Club 33 pins. No one trades them. They are silly to buy. Yes.

i have about a dozen of them, from various events and from the club itself. So I might auction them off on dpf if there's enough interest...

one day I will eat there...one day...

:) I gave up on Monstro, Blue Fairy, Big Bad Wolf, Bruce and sharks in general! :p There may be others but I can't remember. I didn't give up on them because they were difficult themes to obtain, I gave up on them because they were just TOO random. All the character themes that I currently collect are in my top 10-20 Disney characters. Monstro, Blue Fairy, Big Bad Wolf and Bruce just are amongst my top favourites, even though I do like them a lot.

Great White Sharks are my favourite animals of all time, which is why I wanted to collect sharks in general as well as Bruce. Other than Bruce though, I didn't end up obtaining any other sharks pins during that time, so that ended up being pointless!

^^ I kept all of my Monstro pins, and a few of the Bruce pins. The rest went on my trades list, so I still technically have them!

I gave up on jumbo ear hats series mainly because they don't fit on a 2" lanyard and am considering trading off my princess and frogs and keeping my 4-5 favorites. decisions, decisions.....

I haven't really given up on anything yet, I'm basically just starting! (:
But I'm narrowing down my characters a bit, for example I'm just collecting Dale now instead of Chip and Dale...(:

I gave up on Robin Hood, because there are so few pins and I just could never get any trade responses to get them. The few I have, I bought in DPF sales. Also I re-watched it recently and... well, it just isn't one of my favorites anymore.

Also I kinda started running out of room. I haven't given up entirely on Mary Poppins, but I've taken most of those off my wants list except a few special ones.

I collect a lot of different things, so I also went and narrowed all those categories way down in my wants. The only thing I've had an inexplicable urge to be a completist on is Brave... only now my lanyard is filled and I'm not sure what to do with the rest! So who knows if that particular urge will last...

+100
I totally agree with you soo hard on this! They really don't, they are either pins that are booster sets, pins that are not really good traders and pins that are too darn expensive...I mean I remeber when I got a 250 LE centaurs pin from there for lik 12.95 plus shipping and that was a long time ago...i had gotten some great pins from there and now it is like not even worth it to buy from there...their stock never is interesting nor does it change a whole lot

My collection started with The Disney Marathon Pin of 2009 then it went to a thought of trying to collect Tinker Bell, then within a few months it went to Disney Theme park attactions. I still do collect some Tinker Bell on the side since I like Tinker Bell and the Disney Princesses.

I gave up on Stitch and Nightmare. I never really intended to collect ALL the pins of these two series but there's just so many that it's overwhelming. I will still casually collect as time goes on but not hardcore serious.

Well, I gave up on the PODMs. I thought it would be cool to get scenes with cats in them, and got a Lucifer and Bagheera (sp?) scene. But they didn't even make scenes with Dinah, Cheshire Cat, Si or Am, etc. So I gave up on those!

Also, I decided to give up on pins of human without pupils! They just look so creepy (as an example, the coveted R/C Rapunzel that everybody wants, but I think it looks terrible!). This mainly affects princesses and I don't collect many, but it has limited the number of Ariel/Eric pins I will go after.

Cinderella, Stitch and Robin Hood. Robin Hood there just weren't that many pins. Stitch, I never really was a Stitch collector but I would trade for thm on CM lanyards and buy them from time to time. I had several pages worth in a pin bag. But after joining DPF I moved a bunch to my trades. Cinderella, I bought a lot in 2000-2002 and then made them traders about 2005. I should probably give up more, but I can't.

I gave up on PODMs. I now only have two, one of which I'm trying to trade away. They were just too competitive and too hard to display in my opinion!
I'm thinking of giving up Peter Pan too. I just have too many sentimental collections that mean more to me, and I just haven't been able to get my heart in to Peter Pan for some reason.

I've come to the decision to put my Alice collection on the back burner for the foreseeable future to concentrate on my UP collection....something had to give because UP pins are so hard to get hold of.....I will hopefully resume collecting Alice in the future :)

Im currently debated weather or not to stop UP and downsize to JUST pins with Kevin on as she is my favourite. I am just not enjoying UP anymore as its costing more and more money with each new release and Ive come to think my priorities are changing as I want stuff for the house etc and its not been fun for me since 2012 Valentines day pins, and then with stress of BT and other pins its sucking the fun out of it so Im arguing with my brain to sell or keep...

I thought you collected everything :p

You love sharks? That is terrifying xD I have such a phobia of sharks that I don't go in the sea despite the fact I live in the UK and after a horribly placed huge plastic shark replica I also have panic attacks in swimming pools. #fail.
